Chris Haynes: Tyronn Lue says #Cavs G Iman Shumpert (shoulder) is expected to go tonight against Raptors. He’ll go through shootaround.
Jason Lloyd: Iman Shumpert (shoulder) did not practice again today, but will travel to OKC. Questionable for game vs. Thunder.
The Cleveland Cavaliers held practice without Iman Shumpert on Friday and he's listed as day-to-day. Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said Shumpert "tweaked his shoulder" in Thursday's 106-95 win over the Chicago Bulls. The injury apparently happened when Shumpert stole the ball from Bulls guard Doug McDermott. He started to favor his shoulder immediately afterward. It's the same shoulder he separated over a year ago while a member of the New York Knicks.
Randy Renner: Cavs say both Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert OUT tonight vs #Thunder and Mo Williams questionable with sprained thumb
As expected, the Cleveland Cavaliers will hold guard Iman Shumpert out of tonight's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder while he tends to a right groin strain. The team says he will continue treatment, and his status is listed as "questionable thereafter pending further evaluations." Shumpert sustained the injury in the fourth quarter of the Cavaliers' 89-77 victory over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.
Iman Shumpert will be active tonight and is likely to make his season debut against the Orlando Magic. Shumpert still needed to go through the morning shootaround and pregame warm-ups, but all parties (speaking before shootaround) sounded optimistic. “If we go through shootaround and everything is straight,” Shumpert said, “I’m going to try to give it a go.”
Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert could play on the team's upcoming two-game road trip, which starts on Friday against the Orlando Magic and finishes Tuesday in Boston. "There's a chance that one or two or both will play on the trip, but there's also a chance they don't," head coach David Blatt said Thursday. "We'll see how they're feeling." Both Irving and Shumpert went through a full practice on Thursday, the final workout before the team left for Orlando, and both made the trip.
Cleveland.com is told that Shumpert is slightly ahead of Irving in terms of recovery. Since Shumpert is coming back from a wrist injury and Irving a knee injury, the three-time All-Star's road to full health has been tougher.
Shumpert has been able to maintain his conditioning throughout the process. That hasn't been the case with Irving. Though no one within the organization is willing to say it, I'm told that having both activated in time for the Christmas Day game against the Golden State Warriors is a strong possibility.
The word is Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert is breaking records when it comes to how aggressively he's attacking his rehabilitation. That might be hyperbole, but what's clear is he's ahead of schedule in his recovery from a ruptured Extensor Carpi Ulnaris sheath in his right wrist. But if you ask him, none of this comes as a surprise.
Is a mid-December season debut in the works? "If I could have, I would have played soon as they took the cast off [on Oct. 14]. I think I'm six weeks out. They said 12-14 [weeks], right? If I can make it at 12, I'm trying to make it at 12," Shumpert told cleveland.com. "If I can get there right at 12, I'm trying to get there right at 12, but I'm trying to make sure I take my time."
