Anthony Davis’ season is over. Alvin Gentry told reporters during his pregame media session Sunday that New Orleans has decided to shut down the three-time All-Star for the remaining 14 games of 2015-16, a decision that factors in the 23-year-old’s left knee and shoulder injuries. “We’re going to shut him down. He’s done for the year,” Gentry said. “It’s unfortunate, but he’s got an issue with his shoulder that he’s played with the whole season. It’s amazing when people talk about him being soft or whatever; they don’t understand that he’s played through a situation with his shoulder the entire season.”
Along with what appears to have been a season-long issue with his shoulder, Davis injured his left knee Friday vs. Portland, when he was contacted by Portland’s C.J. McCollum and teammate Jrue Holiday. The knee also needs treatment. “He has an issue with his knee that we’re going to get corrected,” Gentry said. “I think for us, we have to look at things long term, and we have to look at what’s best for the future of our franchise. For that reason, he won’t play anymore this season.”

Anthony Davis was held out of the second half of the New Orleans Pelicans' 117-112 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday with what New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry described as a sore left knee. “There’s no reason for us to take any kind of chances with him right now,” Gentry said. “So that’s why we just held him out. I didn’t think it made sense to try to stick him back out there and play in the situation that we’re in right now.
Mark Berman: Alvin Gentry says Anthony Davis is fine. He'll play tonight for the Pelicans against the #Rockets

Pelicans forward Anthony Davis bruised his lower back diving into the stands during New Orleans' game against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. Davis left the game and never returned.
The Pelicans will face the Jazz in Salt Lake City on Saturday before heading back to New Orleans to host the Grizzlies on Tuesday. Gentry said Davis’s status for the Jazz game will be determined after further testing on Saturday. “We don’t know,” Gentry said of Davis. “It’s something that will have to be looked at [Saturday].”

Perkins claimed that Harden disappeared in the series after the games went to the South Beach in Miami. OKC won the first game, but the Heat was able to equalize. “We get to Miami and South Beach get a hold to us, right? James Harden disappeared. Completely off the face of the Earth. The NBA entered the 2020-21 season with seven African American coaches among its 30 teams despite the league being about 75% Black. Brown told The Undefeated that he told the Celtics ownership and front office last offseason that it was important to hire a Black head coach after Brad Stevens was promoted to president of basketball operations. The Celtics seemingly listened, hiring former NBA player Ime Udoka, who was a Brooklyn Nets assistant last season and has nine years of coaching experience, on June 28. “They were on board with it. They talked about it. It wasn’t like it was just about being African American. [Udoka is] more than qualified,” said Brown.
