Maker said he has used workouts to prove to executives and coaches that he is talented enough for the NBA. “I’ve played against most of these guys already when they were in high school,” he said. “Sure enough in college they developed a lot more in terms of physically getting stronger. But I’ve held my own. They’ve watched me and they see that – and I see that – not much has changed since they were in high school.”
But in order to reach his potential in the NBA, Maker said, he understands that he will have to get stronger and add weight to his 216-pound body. “I’ve gotten better, I’ve matured and physically I’ve gotten stronger,” he said. “Over the years I’ve gradually put on weight and gradually gotten stronger. I’ve always done it the right way and I’ve always put on the right amount of weight so that it’s not too much because I have to be able to hold on to that weight. We’re taking our time.”

The 7-foot-1 Croatian, as athletic as he is tall, impressed with great shooting form, 3-point range, world-class length and a sharp instinct to pass. He’s skinny — a bony 223 pounds — but so is Kristaps Porzingis, the improbably successful Knicks rookie who has Danny Ainge wondering if the European talent pool can produce legitimate high draft talent for the second year in a row. The Celtics president and his son, director of player personnel Austin Ainge, watched Bender in two practices with Maccabi Tel Aviv last weekend. Bender told them he will fly to Boston for a workout once Maccabi’s playoff season ends, at the latest, on June 9.

What do you want the Nuggets organization or the fans to know about you? Ben Bentil: I’m a competitor. I’m a person who competes no matter what the ups and downs are. Who would you compare your game to in the NBA? Ben Bentil: I model my game after Wilson Chandler, Draymond Green, Paul Millsap and Kevin Garnett.
Andy Larsen: Was really impressed talking with Thon Maker today at Jazz workout. "The player [the mixtape makers] envision is not the player I envision. The mixtape guy just shows lots of dunks and crossovers and fancy one hand passes. The other me I envision is more steady, controls the pace, gets teammates going, and is fundamentally sound, both offensively and defensively."
Adam Zagoria: 7-footer Thon Maker works out for Utah today and then Atlanta on Friday, source tells @SNYtv. Also has Detroit & Indiana w/in the next week.
A team first calls a player’s agent to set up a visit. Agents will determine when a player will visit and often what other players will compete against him. It is not uncommon for an agent to give teams a list of players with whom his client would like to work out. In the case of Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram, each player will make team visits but will likely not compete in a three-on-three setting.
Teams will have agents on speed dial when it comes to finalizing the draft workout. Starting in early May and leading up to the day of the draft, teams will operate on seven-day workweeks based on the availability of prospects. The first piece of the puzzle is getting a prospect to commit. The second piece is filling out the workout with prospects within the same skill level. Because players have been scouted heavily in five-on-five settings, the goal for the team is to get a player in their gym to get to know him better
Teams that put a lot of stock into the draft workout are often the ones that miss out on top prospects in the draft. It’s just not as important as the other parts of the evaluation process. The workout is more for the benefit of the coaching staff. Players will go through a one-hour, practice-like setting that will combine agility, shell drills, shooting and three-on-three. The true test of the prospect is not how skilled they are; it's their conditioning. Unlike a practice setting where there are 15 players, the draft workout is built on repetition with less rest.
Keith Pompey: The #Sixers, led by own Josh Harris, were well represented at today's Excel Sports workout featuring Brandon Ingram and Jamal Murray in NY. Coach Brett Brown and vice president of player personnel Marc Eversley were also among the large Sixers' contingent at the Excel workout.

Even so, several sources told The Undefeated that Philadelphia expects to also work out ex-California forward Jaylen Brown, ex-Providence point guard Kris Dunn and ex-Kentucky combo guard Jamal Murray. The Sixers are also considering offering workout invitations to ex-Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield and Israel Maccabi Tel Aviv forward Dragan Bender, too. The Sixers have yet to schedule any workouts with any of the aforementioned NBA prospects. Philadelphia has the top pick as well as the 24th and 26th selections in the first round, but no second-round picks. The NBA draft will be held June 23 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He said he would like to work out against Ingram and Simmons, but posed a question. “Do they want to work out [against] me?” Brown asked. “I think that’s the question.”

Adam Zagoria: Former Oklahoma PG Isaiah Cousins was impressive yesterday in Pacers workout, sources told @SNYtv. Has New Orleans tomorrow.
Troy Williams, 21, just completed his junior year at Indiana University and says he has an internship and “a class or two left” to earn his undergraduate degree. He has not yet decided whether he will remain in the 2016 NBA Draft, and he has until May 25th to decide. He says he’ll lean heavily on his support system: uncle Boo Williams, aunt Terri Williams-Flournoy, and basketball trainer John Lucas. For now, he’s “50-50.” He has workouts scheduled with the Clippers (Wednesday), Lakers (Thursday), and Pelicans (May 23rd).
Marcus Lee has cancelled at least three workouts with NBA teams, including one scheduled for Tuesday, a league source told SNY.tv. It is unclear how many workouts the 6-foot-10 Lee had originally scheduled.
Lee said Friday he was still weighing his options regarding the NBA Draft and was unconcerned about a possible logjam in the Kentucky frontcourt should he return to campus. "I'm definitely weighing my options, it's definitely a process," Lee said on Friday at the NBA Draft Combine. "Once I get back home I'll be able to talk it through with my family and we'll figure it out from there. We'll kind of weigh the options and go from there knowing that there is a risk there in not knowing what might happen."

“And this is not even basketball,” Beverley added. “Two guys fell on the floor today. Half the team helped one guy up, half the team helped the other, that shows that we’re building a brotherhood here. And the more we do that, be a cohesive unit and be together, wins will come.”
“I just feel like, you go through a season especially with new guys, new faces, and a new team, I think you have to build that brotherhood first,” Beverley said following the Lakers’ five-point loss. “That brotherhood comes with trust and once you build that brotherhood and you start to trust each other, I think the basketball comes easy.”
“There was a specific tweet that was put out yesterday insinuating that [Poole’s] attitude or something has changed … it’s absolute BS,” Curry said to reporters. “Andre [Iguodala] addressed it yesterday with his tweet, and we can kind of leave it at that. [Poole] has been great, there’s nothing that warranted the situation yesterday, to make that clear. But it’s also something that, I feel like, will not derail our season and what we’re trying to do.”

“He’s solid, he’s solid. He’s like the 2K create-a-player,” Curry said of Wembanyama. “Every point guard that wants to be seven-foot, cheat-code type vibes. He’s a solid talent. It’s great to watch. They had a pretty entertaining game with the Ignite team, so it was dope.”
