Jonathan Feigen: The Rockets have as expected waived Gary Payton II, the first of today's roster moves, per source.
Marc Stein: The Pelicans just announced that they've waived Alonzo Gee and kept Lance Stephenson, even though Gee is owed a full $1.2 million.
After talks with team officials on Sunday, China star Yi Jianlian has asked the Los Angeles Lakers for his release, according to league sources. Sources told ESPN.com that with the Lakers facing roster cut-down decisions by Monday at 5 p.m. ET, Yi and his representatives requested that the Lakers let him go to pursue other opportunities, largely because the role he envisioned in L.A. didn't materialize.
The Lakers will formally waive Yi later Monday, sources said, and will still have to release one more player to get down to the league maximum of 15. But Yi's departure would appear to increase the odds that former All-Star forward Metta World Peace will make the opening night roster, as he did a year ago, with fellow veteran Thomas Robinson being another strong contender for a roster spot.
Mark Medina: Not concrete yet, but I'm told Thomas Robinson feels encouraged after receiving positive feedback in recent days about his training camp.
Mitch McGary has a guaranteed contract but little certainty. The third-year Thunder power forward is guaranteed a little more than $1.5 million this season. But he's coming off a foot injury and is suspended for the first 15 games of the regular season for twice violating the NBA's anti-drug program. McGary didn't play a minute in Oklahoma City's six preseason games, the first four due to his foot injury. He was available but didn't play in the final two. “If the opportunity doesn't present itself (to play), that's totally on me,” McGary said Sunday. “Just means I got to work a little bit harder to get where I want to go. Wherever that is — it may be here; I hope so — I just want to play. That's it.”
The Indiana Pacers announced Sunday they have waived 6-9 forward Jeremy Evans and 6-6 guard Julyan Stone. Evans played in two preseason games and did not score. Stone played in five games, scoring one point and averaging two rebounds per game.
Adam Johnson: After being waived by the Hornets, KU alum Perry Ellis will be joining the Greensboro Swarm, source tells D-League Digest.
The New Orleans Pelicans have until Monday afternoon to get their roster to the NBA-maximum 15 players and it appears Lance Stephenson and Alonzo Gee are in a two-man battle to land the final spot. Stephenson signed a $1.2 million contract with the Pelicans in September but only $100,000 is guaranteed. Gee signed a guaranteed $1.2 million veteran minimum contract to this summer to return to the Pelicans, but averaged only 9.2 minutes in five preseason games and just 1.4 points.
Justin Verrier: Pelicans officially waive Quinn Cook and Quincy Ford. Pels are fans of both but have a need for a bigger wing with Holiday, Evans, Qpon out.
Tim MacMahon: A source said C Jaleel Cousins, DeMarcus' younger brother, is expected to join the D-League Texas Legends if he clears waivers following his release from the Mavs. All of the Mavs' cuts are open to joining the team's D-League affiliate with the exception of G Kyle Collinsworth, who plans to play overseas. However, there is a decent possibility that final cut Jonathan Gibson gets claimed by another NBA team.
Jeff Goodman: Charlotte Hornets waiving Rasheed Sulaimon, Mike Tobey, Perry Ellis and Andrew Andrews, source told ESPN.
The Cavs waived forward John Holland on Saturday, reducing their roster to 16 players. General manager David Griffin has to pare down the roster to 15 player by 5 o'clock Monday.
Ira Winderman: So Beno Udrih gives up $90,000 to Heat in 2015-16, gets $1.6 million not to play in 2016-17. Best rate of return . . . ever?
Josh Robbins: The Magic have waived Nick Johnson and Ramon Galloway, leaving their roster at 15 players. Damjan Rudez & Arinze Onuaku made the team.
Michael C. Wright: So Livio Jean-Charles, Pato Garino, Ryan Arcidiacono and Joel Anthony will be waived per source.
Chris Haynes: The Minnesota Timberwolves are releasing veteran forward Rasual Butler and guard Toure' Murry, league sources told ESPN. This move clears a nice path for John Lucas III to grab roster spot.
Ira Winderman: The Heat also will shortly waive Beno Udrih, party close to situation said. Waiting on that confirmation. So looks like McGruder sticks.
Michael Scotto: Milwaukee Bucks are waiving center Jaleel Roberts, a league source told Basketball Insiders. He's likely headed to the D-League.
Aaron Falk: The Memphis Grizzlies will cut Jordan Adams and DJ Stephens, league sources inform The Salt Lake Tribune

Michael Scotto: Atlanta Hawks will waive point guard Josh Magette, a league source told Basketball Insiders. Roster will stand at 15 players after the move.
J. Michael: Btw, Jarell Eddie is a great dude. A pleasant, all-around decent guy. Hes like Garrett Temple Jr. Hope it works out for him #WizardsTalk
Chris Dempsey: League sources: #Nuggets will waive Robbie Hummel and Nate Wolters. That means Jarnell Stokes has made the roster.

In addition, the Grizzlies waived guard Kellen Dunham. Sampson (6-9, 214) has appeared in 147 career regular season games (72 starts) over his two-year NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets and holds career averages of 5.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 15.6 minutes. The 23-year-old has also competed in two NBA Development League games (two starts) for the Delaware 87ers and averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.00 steals and 1.00 blocks in 31.7 minutes.

The New Orleans Pelicans today announced that the team has waived guard Shawn Dawson and center Robert Sacre. Dawson, 6-6, 205, appeared in three preseason games for New Orleans, averaging 1.7 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists. The Israeli native was originally signed by the Pelicans on Aug. 12.
The Brooklyn Nets have requested waivers on Yogi Ferrell. Ferrell, who originally signed with Brooklyn on August 5, appeared in three preseason games with the Nets, recording averages of 4.3 points and 1.7 assists in 9.6 minutes per game.
Shams Charania: Boston has released forward Ben Bentil, league sources tell The Vertical. Bentil could become waiver claim or affiliate option elsewhere.
Marc Stein: Story posting now with @Ramona Shelburne: Lakers have interest in making Metta World Peace an assistant coach if they run out of roster room.
Sources say that World Peace's preference, at age 36, is to continue his playing career, even if the Lakers ultimately decide they won't keep him and that forces him to look elsewhere. L.A.'s decision must be made Monday by 5 p.m., when all NBA teams are required to get down to 15 players in advance of the first night of the regular season.
The Hawks releasing point guard Will Bynum on Friday, a move that reduces their roster to 16 players. The Hawks will need to make one more roster move to get to the maximum of 15 players.
Hornacek indicated the Knicks could have enough reserve bigs after starters Joakim Noah and Kristaps Porzingis. He named Kyle O’Quinn, Willy Hernangomez, Marshall Plumlee, saying that group could be sufficient. That leaves big men Lou Amundson, Maurice Ndour and guard J.P. Tokoto as potential three cuts to get down to 15.
The Hawks waived veteran Jarrett Jack on Thursday. The release of the veteran point guard, who has been unable to practice as he returns from torn right knee ligaments, reduced the training-camp roster to 17 players. Jack suffered the injury last season as a member of the Nets and has been rehabbing during training camp. He missed all seven of the Hawks’ exhibition games this preseason.
Dave McMenamin: The Cavs have released Cory Jefferson, Markel Brown and Jonathan Holmes according to a league source.

When Erik Spoelstra was asked Monday about the battle for the final roster spot between Beno Udrih and Briante Weber, he gave a very interesting answer. “It’s not a competition just between those two,” Spoelstra said. It turns out that Udrih and Weber aren’t just competing against each other for Miami’s 15th roster spot. The pair of point guards are also competing against 25-year-old shooting guard Rodney McGruder. “Yeah, he is,” Spoelstra said Wednesday when asked if McGruder is still in the race for a roster spot. With the Heat’s roster still at the NBA preseason maximum of 20 players, Miami must cut its roster to the regular-season maximum of 15 players by Monday’s deadline. With 14 players pretty much guaranteed a spot on the roster, that leaves Udrih, Weber and McGruder fighting for the final opening.
