With undrafted rookie Ron Baker solidifying his place as a Knick after Friday’s heroics in Milwaukee, Westchester Knicks point guard Chasson Randle has a workout Sunday with the 76ers, according to an NBA source. The Sixers have been looking for perimeter help to offset their glut of big men.
Meanwhile, Chasson Randle, the Knicks’ summer-league sensation who got hurt in training camp, wallows in the D-League with Westchester. Randle posted 38 points Friday against the Texas Legends, making 12 of 19 baskets. According to a source, the Mavericks and 76ers have some interest in Randle, though they don’t have open roster spots. Randle is a free agent, but the Knicks probably would have to cut Mo Ndour to make space. There was a lot of talk going into training camp about not having a legitimate third point guard if Rose struggled with injuries. Rose played 65 games last season.

Bogdan Bogdanovic to miss Eurobasket?

Atlanta Hawks and Serbia NT star Bogdan Bogdanovic has been suffering from knee pain for months now and his participation in the 2022 EuroBasket in September is unlikely, according to reports by mozzartsport.com. Bogdanovic, 29, has faced these issues for quite a while now, but still managed to play through pain with the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the playoffs this past April vs. the Miami Heat.
I talked with you about Russell last year, when he was about to break Oscar’s career record for triple-doubles. And I thought it could work with him and LeBron and AD this year. Do you think it could still work? Magic Johnson: Well, it only can work, if you’ve got the coach — the right coach. To me, it still comes down to, who’s the coach? And, then, also, he’s on a one-year, $47 million (contract). Even if you offer him (in a trade), what are you, realistically, going to get back? I told them this too — you’re going to get some contracts you probably don’t want, and they’re going to go (chronologically) past his contract. You’ve really got to think about that. Are those players you’re going to get back, are they going to really help you? I said, talk to him. Whatever happened (this season), how can you make it better with Russell? How can you make it more comfortable? So they’ve got to figure all these things out. Take him out, take him to dinner or sit him down. How can this thing be better? ‘Cause if he’s going to be there, it’s got to be better. I guess whoever they name, that’s the first thing they’re going to have to do. And you can’t sit down once. You’re going to have to sit down for a week or two to try to figure that thing out.

It was the kind of play that helped Smart win the 2021-22 Defensive Player of the Year, an award Adebayo felt he should have received more consideration for. Voters placed Adebayo fourth in the running behind Smart, Phoenix Suns forward Mikal Bridges and Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert. Adebayo called the voting “disrespectful,” and no, he insisted, he isn’t using this series as a prove-it moment for himself. “No, I want to win (a title),” Adebayo said in a recent interview with The Athletic. “I already forgot about the award. We’re trying to win a championship, trying to advance in this series. I’m not worried about any awards.”
Theoretically, what type of person should coach the Lakers next? Magic Johnson: I think that, to me, they’re showing you, right now. Probably besides Erik Spoelstra, all the other three that’s in the final four are ex-players. So, I think that says a lot about these young ex-players who command respect right away, who have done it before. I’m not saying it has to be an ex-player, but I’m saying you have to look at what’s going on. Most of the guys who are in the playoffs. But the most important thing to me is accountability. They must hold everybody, one through 15, accountable. And we got away from accountability. Guys never talked about that this season. It was always somebody else’s fault. I hated that. Never, ‘Hey, I played bad. Hey, It’s on me.’ So whether it’s an ex-player or not, but the trend is ex-players. But if not, I want a coach that’s going to hold everybody accountable. And, so, that’s what I would like to see.
