More on Draft Workouts

Mike Bresnahan: Magic + Pelinka were only Lakers at Lonzo Ball's workout. A chance for final face-to-face while checking out Lonzo's daily workout regimen.
Ramona Shelburne: Lonzo's second workout with the Lakers went from 8 am until noon today. He went through his whole daily routine with them
Darren Wolfson: Former FSU big Michael Ojo was also part of today's #Twolves workout, I'm told. It was him, and local guys Marshall, Hooker, and Lumpkin.
Denver Nuggets: Monday’s workout (June 19th) will begin at 9:00 am and feature the following players: Jaron Blossomgame, 6-7, 220, Clemson, F; Damyean Dotson, 6-5, 210, Houston, G; PJ Dozier, 6-6, 205, South Carolina, G; Andrew White, 6-7, 210, Syracuse, G; Derrick White, 6-5, 193, Colorado, G; Matt Williams, 6-5, 220, Central Florida, G
The Heat wanted a second look and summoned Bacon to team headquarters Thursday for a workout also featuring one potential Heat first-round pick at No. 14 (T.J. Leaf) and several other prospects projected to go lower.
Tom Moore: #NBA source: Josh Jackson working out for #Sixers today in Sacramento. B Colangelo, B Brown, M Eversley attending.
Rick Bonnell: Cho said today Sunday is their last scheduled workout. If Kennard, Jackson and Adebayo are all there, figures Michael Jordan will attend.
Wisconsin star Bronson Koenig will finish up his pre-draft workouts with a visit to Golden State. Koenig, per people around the league, has impressed teams with his shooting and athleticism in workouts. Multiple team decision-makers have said that he's rising on their draft boards after workouts.
Ball will work out for the Lakers a second time on Friday at an undisclosed location in Los Angles county. He is hopeful the Lakers will give him some indication whether he's "separated himself" throughout the draft process. Ball continues to have no plans to speak with or workout for the Boston Celtics, who hold the No. 1 pick. After Friday's workout he will consider talking to other lottery teams who have asked to speak with him, according to the source.
While Lonzo Ball has worked out only for the Los Angeles Lakers, the former UCLA Bruins star is considering talking to teams who have lottery picks below the Lakers, a source close to Ball told ESPN.
Harrison Faigen: I'm told Columbia senior Luke Petrasek will work out for the Lakers on Monday. He has previously worked out for the Nets, Kings and Knicks
Ryan Ward: Next group for Lakers' pre-draft workouts: Jabari Bird, James Blackmon Jr., Tyler Cavanaugh, Isaiah Hicks, Devin Robinson, Michael Smith
The Denver Nuggets will hold a pre-draft workout on Friday, June 16th at 9:00 am at the UCHealth Practice Court at Pepsi Center. Friday, June 16th: Edrice “Bam” Adebayo, 6-10, 250, Kentucky, C Ismael Bako, 6-10, 210, Belgium, C Ike Iroegbu, 6-2, 195, Washington State, G Przemek Karnowski, 7-1, 305, Gonzaga, C Kennedy Meeks, 6-10, 260, North Carolina, C Jaren Sina, 6-2, 187, George Washington, G
The Kentucky guard has worked out for four teams: the Knicks, Sixers, Suns, and Magic. Phoenix has the No. 4 pick and Orlando No. 6. “I think I fit great everywhere I worked out at,” Monk said. “That’s why I picked the workouts.”
Q: On if he could see himself being a Laker: Fultz: For sure. I could see myself playing here. It’s a great city, a great team. A lot history behind this team. Q: On playing alongside a young core: Fultz: I thought about both. Being a young team, would pretty much feel like college again. But either/or. Coming to a young team or an old team, I’m just blessed to play the game.
Q: On why he came to workout for the Lakers given that most mock drafts have him going No. 1: Fultz: I think it was a family decision, just going through it. Giving everybody the opportunity. Never know where I might land, so just wanted to see how it is out here. Q: On if he has other workouts planned: Fultz: Not that I’m sure of. Still have to talk to my family after this one just like I did after the last workout and see what we’re going to do.
The ultimate goal, however, is to earn a spot on an NBA roster. For some prospects, like Louisville guard Donovan Mitchell, it's starting to set in that that childhood dream will soon become a reality. On Wednesday, Mitchell, a probable first-round pick, received an invitation to attend the 2017 NBA Draft and sit in the green room at the Barclays Center on June 22. "I kind of went off the wall yesterday just screaming and yelling in my pillow," Mitchell said after Thursday's pre-draft workout for the Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. "I'm excited, but I've still got a few workouts to go."
The following is a list of scheduled attendees for the Sacramento Kings tenth Pre-Draft workout, which will take place at the Kings Practice Facility on June 16, 2017: Kobi Simmons, Derrick Walton, Troy Caupain, TJ Cline, Jacob Wiley, Reggie Upshaw, Ivan Rabb.
Ian Begley: The Knicks are among the teams who are expected to attend Dennis Smith Jr.'s private workout on Thursday, league sources confirm. Smith Jr. met with the Knicks earlier this month and was scheduled to work out but did not. It is unclear why he didn't work out for the Knicks while in New York. The Knicks will be among several teams to watch Smith Jr. at his workout, as first reported by Basketball Insiders. The Knicks have the eighth pick in the draft. Some members of the Sixers organization are fans of Smith Jr., per league sources. Philadelphia owns the No. 3 pick and would presumably trade back to acquire Smith Jr. Boston and Smith Jr.'s camp have also been discussing getting together for a meeting or workout before the draft next Thursday, per sources.
Ailene Voisin: While Josh Jackson visited w/Kings today at G1C practice facility, projected No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz has decided not to make a visit.
To his credit, Jeremy Senglin, the Wildcats’ all-time leading scorer and the Big Sky Conference’s most prolific 3-point shooter in history, made the most of his opportunity to audition for the team he’s cheered on for years. “He looked good,” Jazz vice president of player personnel Walt Perrin said. “He shot it pretty well like we knew he did. He competed really hard, played pretty good defense. I thought he had a pretty good workout.”
That’s Senglin’s attitude, too. He’s determined to persevere and push his way into an opportunity to play at the highest level as Lillard, Bolomboy, Eddie Gill and Harold Arceneaux have been able to do from Utah’s oft-overlooked NBA pipeline. “If I don’t hear my name on draft night, that’s not the end of the road. You still have summer camp, mini-camps, a lot of other things as well,” Senglin said. “Everybody wants to hear their name called, but it’s not the breaking point or the end if you don’t. I’m ready for it. I’m never going to get anything handed to me, so I’m ready to just fight for everything.”
Serena Winters: Lakers officially schedule Markelle Fultz workout for tomorrow morning. Workout closed to media, but will be there to chat with him after.
Darren Wolfson: Need to do another podcast 😄... Told Arizona's Lauri Markkanen, elite shooter in this draft, has been in for #Twolves workout. No on Isaac.
Mike Bresnahan: Markelle Fultz will work out for the Lakers on Thursday. No official date yet for Lonzo Ball but there will be a second workout.
North Carolina’s championship-winning junior swingman Justin Jackson had participated in six NBA workouts prior to Tuesday’s visit to the Knicks’ Tarrytown compound. This one — off the bat — felt different. “It was more teaching than all the other ones,’’ Jackson told The Post in a phone interview. “With the triangle and the other types of offenses they run, I would say it was a little more mental than physical.”
Justin Jackson: “Phil [Jackson] stepped in a few times to say what he wanted to see, but it was mostly coach [Jeff] Hornacek running the workout.’’
Mark Medina: Lakers are finalizing details in bringing Lonzo Ball in for a second workout. It appears likely Markelle Fultz will have one, too.
Mike Trudell: Jackson thinks it could be “really special” playing with Ingram. Noted how GSW+CLE didn’t play centers in “winning time.” Versatility a key.
Former Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox will work out for the 76ers this weekend, tentatively set for Saturday, a source said Tuesday. Fox is one of the players the Sixers are considering to select with the third overall pick in the June 22 draft. He worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers, who will pick second, on Tuesday.
In other predraft news, a source said the Sixers will work out former Miami shooting guard Davon Reed on Friday. Reed could be a solid pickup for the team in the second round.
Ian Begley: Nevada's Cameron Oliver has workouts scheduled this week with the Nets (Wednesday) and Knicks (Thursday), per league sources. Oliver, widely projected as a second-round pick, has an intriguing game and frame. He is 6-8 with a 7-1 wingspan and a near 40-inch vertical -- and he's flashed an ability to knock down perimeter shots at the college level. Oliver averaged 16 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game last season at Nevada and has worked out for several teams ahead of the draft. The Knicks own two second-round picks (44 and 58) and the Nets own the 57th pick in the second round and the 22nd and 27th picks in the first round.
The Pacers will hold their seventh pre-draft workout in preparation for the 2017 NBA Draft on Wednesday, June 14. The six players scheduled to participate in workouts are Dylan Ennis (Oregon), Jawun Evans (Oklahoma State), Amile Jefferson (Duke), Zach LeDay (Virginia Tech), Paul Watson, Jr. (Fresno State), and Nigel Williams-Goss (Gonzaga).
Jeff Goodman‏: High lottery pick Josh Jackson canceled today's workout with the Boston Celtics, source told me and @MarcJSpearsESPN.
Ryan Wolstat: Seth Allen Naz Mitrou-Long Sindarius Thornwell Dwayne Bacon Chance Comanche Isaac Humphries in to workout for the Raptors tomorrow.
Adam Zagoria: Projected No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz is expected to meet this week with the Lakers, per source. Has met with Celtics
Michael Scotto: Sources: Brooklyn Nets will bring in Terrance Ferguson as part of a group workout on June 18. He's a 6-7 SG with athleticism & 3-point range
A few sources tell me that Ball has not had great pre-Draft workouts. Now, to be fair, his game is not conducive to one on none workouts; that is, doing drills and things by himself out on the floor. Ball isn’t going to wow you with incredible athletic feats. Where he shines is with other players, when he can get them the ball in rhythm and on their hands with pinpoint passes. It’s ultimately hard to see Magic Johnson passing on such an L.A.-centric player like Ball.
Spencer Percy: Jaron Blossomgame works out for #Hornets tomorrow. Fringe 1st rd. pick last season, but withdrew his name to return for Sr. year at Clemson.
Many qualities have made the Lakers impressed with Ball, including his leadership potential, passing and scoring. They are not impressed, however, with his level of conditioning. Some observers of Ball’s workout last Wednesday thought he came in out of shape. Ball acknowledged that the “drills get you tired, so you got to stay focused.”
Los Angeles Lakers‏: Monday morning the #LakeShow will host six more draft prospects: Isaiah Briscoe, Torian Graham, Isaac Humphries, Wesley Iwundu, Luke Kornet and Ben Moore.
Terrance Ferguson is considered a first round talent with most projections placing him in the mid-to-late 20s. The Blazers have three first round picks in the June 22 draft - 15, 20 and 26 - and could use one of those selections on Ferguson to bolster their wing rotation. But there figures to be plenty of interest in Ferguson who has worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers (pick No. 28), Indiana Pacers (18), Chicago Bulls (16) and Denver Nuggets (13) and still has visits with the Charlotte Hornets (11), Miami Heat (14), Detroit Pistons (12), Brooklyn Nets (22) and Milwaukee Bucks (17).
The New York Knicks have a workout scheduled before the draft with Louisville guard Donovan Mitchell, per sources with knowledge of the club's workout schedule. Mitchell, who stands 6-foot-3 with a 6-10 wingspan, intrigues members of the organization because of his profile as an elite perimeter defender -- an area where the club has struggled lately.
The Lakers were “very impressed” with N.C. State point guard Dennis Smith Jr. during his workout Sunday, a source told ZAGSBLOG, and are reportedly “hopeful” of bringing in Washington guard Markelle Fultz this week. The Lakers pick at No. 2 in the June 22nd NBA Draft and have been linked to several lead guards, including Lonzo Ball, who met with the Lakers last week, De’Aaron Fox, Smith Jr and now Fultz. “They have some decisions to make,” the source said.
The Lakers are not expected to select Dennis Smith Jr. with their No. 2 pick, which will be reserved either for Lonzo Ball, Josh Jackson, De’Aaron Fox or Markelle Fultz if he is available. But the Lakers brought Smith Jr. in for a workout in case they trade down.
Ryan Ward: More Lakers pre-draft workouts on Monday: Isaiah Briscoe, Torian Graham, Isaac Humphries, Wesley Iwundu, Luke Kornet, Ben Moore

Appearing on The Scoop podcast with Darren Wolfson of SKOR North and 5 Eyewitness News, Glen Taylor said new Wolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly had his eye on multiple impact trade targets, but Gobert was his “number one option.” The input of head coach Chris Finch, who expressed confidence in his ability to use Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, was also a key factor in Minnesota’s decision to pull the trigger on the blockbuster deal. “What I did when Tim and Chris talked to me about this trade is to ask (Finch) is there a system that he knows how to utilize these players,” Taylor said. “And he was very confident that he did understand how to utilize their skill sets, being two big guys. We talked about a lot, so he convinced me that this is something that is going to take us to a winning situation, and gave us the go-ahead to make the trade.”
Asked if he’d like to see D’Angelo Russell sign an extension before the season begins, Taylor said it might benefit both sides to hold off and see how the 2022/23 season goes. “(Finch) believes that with the new lineup, and with Russell in that lineup, that he’ll have a much better year just because of the way we’re going to play,” Taylor said. “He says he thinks there’s a big upside for Russell with this group of (players). That’s to his advantage and to our advantage if it works out.”
The plan remains for Taylor to hand over control of the franchise to incoming owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez in a little over a year. The Wolves’ longtime owner said he’s not having any regrets about giving up control of the team as it becomes a more legitimate contender. “No, I don’t have any second thoughts. I think it’s the right thing to do,” Taylor said. “We’ve left some options open that I’ll continue to be involved if I want to be involved, and that suits me just fine.”

Cavs to hold voluntary workouts without Collin Sexton

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be gathering in Los Angeles for voluntary, player-led pre-training camp workouts next week, sources tell All-Star point guard Darius Garland and Rookie of the Year runner-up Evan Mobley — two guys who spend time on the West Coast during the offseason — are helping organize the workouts.
