Juan Carlos Navarro wants to play at least one more season, as he said in an interview with El Mundo Deportivo. “I will talk with Barcelona when the season ends. I want to play next season. This year I felt good except the two months I have been injured. I think I can help the team, not like in the past, but in some moments of the game. I see the respect of the opposing teams, how players guard me or try to contrast my shots” Navarro added. “Eurobasket? If I am healthy, I would love to play for Spain. That would be my last summer”.
KL Chouinard: Ersan Ilyasova said that he was unsure about playing for national team of Turkey, especially with his pending free agency.
Damjan Rudez is eager to return to the Croatia squad and help the national team build on the positive momentum that started last summer during its successful FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) campaign in Turin.
New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis "absolutely" wants to help Latvia in their FIBA EuroBasket 2017 campaign. In an interview with FIBA.com, Porzingis, who last played for his country at the FIBA U18 European Championship 2013, has yet to confirm that he will be with the national side when it competes in Istanbul.
When asked if it was possible for him to play this summer for the national team and if he'd like to compete at the FIBA EuroBasket, Porzingis answered: "Yes, absolutely. I would like to help the team get to the second round and have a great campaign."
Danilo Gallinari told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he will play at Eurobasket for the Italian National Team. “I will play. There is no reason for me to miss the media day scheduled for July 20 in Milan. Only injuries stopped me from playing with the Italian National Team which is above everything” Gallinari said.
Sacramento Kings center Kostas Koufos is undecided on whether he will represent Greece at this summer’s Eurobasket. Speaking to Greek outlet Cosmote, Koufos admitted that he had not thought about his summer plans with the national side.
Willy Hernangomez has a rich summer ahead — a chance to work with his “idol,” Grizzlies star center Marc Gasol, every day for more than a month. Gasol has committed to playing for the Spanish National team in the European Championships. Hernangomez, the Knicks’ stud rookie center, wants to play but hasn’t yet gotten permission from team brass.
“For sure I want to play with the national team,’’ Hernangomez told The Post. “This summer is a big opportunity to play with Spain. It’s a long summer and I won’t want to be burned. But Marc will come. It’s going to be great to play with him. I’m sure it’s going to be nice practicing with him every day. I try to learn every day from someone like him now. For sure I’ll earn something form him tonight.’’

Nicolas Batum: “I have not missed a competition with France since 2004, counting the junior National Teams. The decision is taken. I will officially announce it at the end of the NBA Season. I am going to be treated like a mercenary or a coward. But I’ve 127 selections with National Team. I played twice against Blazers’ opinion and I played a Eurobasket with a shoulder injury” Batum said.
While Euro rookies Willy Hernangomez (Spain) and Mindaugas Kuzminskas (Lithuania) say they expect to play in the European Championships in late August/September, Kristaps Porzingis has made no decisions for Latvia. Porzingis told The Post he still is debating and wants to talk to the Knicks about it. Last summer, Porzingis decided against playing for Latvia in its Olympic qualifier. Hernangomez and Kuzminskas played for their respective countries in the Olympics in Rio last summer.
You have represented Croatia twice at the senior level. Are you planning to join Croatia squad for EuroBasket 2017? Mario Hezonja: I don’t think so. I’ll have a long summer with Orlando: workouts and everything. I’m not going to discuss about that right now but I don’t believe that will happen.
"Pau has also told me he's coming," Scariolo said. "All of them want to see how they finish the season. For them to say that they’re looking forward to coming and asking what we're going to do is a first good step, but then we have to wait and see how they end the season - the physical status of those that have to take part in the play-offs. We have to wait until then to have a definite idea but the pre-disposition of all of the players is very good."
Marc Gasol, Pau's younger brother, is set to play after a two-year absence. Marc Gasol chose to sit out FIBA EuroBasket 2015 while an injury prevented him from playing last summer in Brazil. "We’ll begin training on 28 July and we’ll have to change our way of playing with respect to the last two years when Marc hasn’t been here," Scariolo said. "We’ll have to incorporate him. It’s an important readjustment and there are many things that we’re working on."
"(Nikola) Mirotic and (Serge) Ibaka have confirmed their availability," Scariolo said to Onda Cero radio. "Obviously there is a different status and situation, but all of the players have confirmed to me their availability, although with certain provisos. Each has his own circumstances and own situation, but the availability of all is very good."
Scariolo will only be allowed to call up Mirotic or Ibaka, but not both, since each can only compete for the country as a naturalized Spaniard. Ibaka played at FIBA EuroBasket 2011, the 2012 Olympics and the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup while Mirotic represented the country at FIBA EuroBasket 2015 and at last year's Olympics.
Do you intend to play at FIBA EuroBasket 2017 this summer? Joffrey Lauvergne: Yes, that is a goal for me. I want to play for the national team. Things have been going well for me with the national team and I enjoy spending my summer with the guys from the team and staff.
Motiejunas also revealed that he aims to join the Lithuanian national team in the upcoming Eurobasket. “I have much desire to play for the national team. Last year due to certain circumstances I was out but I hope that things will work out this year and I’ll be able to play with the national team.”
Last summer Boban Marjanovic was left out of the Serbian national team squad that won silver medal in Rio. But as he told Eurohoops, he plans to make a comeback in the upcoming Eurobasket tournament. “I hope so. I hope to be there. It depends… it Sasa Djordjevic. If he calls me or not. If he calls me, I’ll be there. I’m available.”

Pau Gasol confirmed once again that he wants to play with the Spanish national team in the upcoming Eurobasket 2017. “My desire of playing for the national team is very big and I’ve been proving it for many years, but now I’m trying to be more cerebral at the moment I’m in my career, no more and no less, “said Gasol speaking to ‘El Larguero’ show of Cadena SER.
However, there’s no final decision on the matter “so far” and everything still depends on his NBA season. “The load of games can take a toll on you and taking breaks are more important for me. I hope that with San Antonio we get as far as possible and if that is the case we will finish our season in the middle or at the end of June, so the decision will not be easy”, he added.
The 27-year-old, who is in London with the Pacers as they face the Denver Nuggets at the O2 Arena on Thursday night is understandably focussing on his club duties but has said that he will make contact with the federation during the season. “I haven’t spoken to the French federation yet but it’s something I am going to do at some point,” Seraphin said. “Being honest, it’s a step-by-step thing but I am hopeful to play for France this summer. However, my focus is with the Pacers and I am waiting to see where I stand in regards to the rotation and where I stand here and see where I might be with the national side moving forward.”
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio says it's far "too early" to know if he'll be in a Spain team that will be taking aim at a fourth European title in five years next summer. The desire to be on that roster is already there, though. "Of course, if I'm healthy," he said to FIBA.com. "But sometimes I speak too early and then I get hurt, so I just want to focus right now on this situation with the (Minnesota) team."
Spain's opponents in the Group Phase at FIBA EuroBasket 2017 will be Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Montenegro and Romania in Group C. "The European Championship is always hard," Rubio said. "There are a lot of good teams and it's not an easy tournament. Sometimes it's harder than a World Cup. "You just have to play tough. We know the last European Championship, we weren't favorites but we won. We're trying to bring the best team so we can win again."
Eurobasket champions Spain have a favourable draw as they travel to Romania to open their 2017 campaign in Cluj-Napoca. The 2015 winners will face Croatia, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Hungary and hosts Romania in Group C. Eurobasket runners-up Lithuania will be housed in Tel Aviv, where they are drawn with the hosts Israel, Ukraine, Georgia, Italy and Germany. Group D, which takes place at the Ulker Sports Arena on the Asian side of Istanbul looks to be the toughest pool of the four as Turkey hosts Great Britain, Russia, Serbia, Latvia and Belgium.

The Russian national team showed again how fully prepared it is ahead of the Eurobasket 2017 qualification games. After Belarus, it easily defeated Georgia 94 – 62. Alexey Shved (15 points, 7 rebounds) along with Vitaly Fridzon (13 points) and Timofey Mozgov (12 points) shined the most from Russia.
Josh Robbins: The Magic recently learned Evan Fournier tweaked an ankle a bit during the 3rd-place EuroBasket game. It might limit him early in camp.
Vincent Collet’s Facebook account was hacked on Tuesday. On the page of the The French National Team head coach appeared a long statement in which it is written "The Spaniards are doped like pigs". A friend of the coach in the comments confirmed that the account was hacked.
Pau Gasol: I get the goose bumps seeing this picture!! From my heart, thank you all for everything that you make us feel. You are the best fans!! #EuropeanChampions #Celebration
Dan McCarney: BTW -- Tony Parker shot 24 pct over the final five games of EuroBasket 2015, and 34 pct overall.
Spain beat Lithuania 80-63 to win Eurobasket 2015. Spain dominated the game since the first quarter and Lithuania was never able to compete at Spain’s level. Lithuania wins the second straight silver medal at Eurobasket.
Pau Gasol led Spain with 25 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks and 10 fouls drawn. Rudy added 11 points before the injury while Llull had 12 points. Kalnietis and Seibutis scored 13 points each for Lithuania while Valanciunas had 10 points and 9 rebounds.
France pulled away in the third quarter to beat Serbia 81-68 and win the bronze medal at the European basketball championship on Sunday. Spain and Lithuania play for the title later Sunday.
Their fates and their accomplishments, in their native land at least, will forever be intertwined. "There is definitely something special," Gasol told ESPN.com. "But I don't know if it's coincidence, or if it's timing. Our generation, of the 1980s, it is a mix of special players and that's why we were so successful early on and that's why there are still a few of us left playing at a high level."

Nicolas Batum explained what was in his own words a “nightmare”. As he said: “For 15 hours the only thing I have in my head is missing those free throws in overtime. We are living in a nightmare but we have to wake up and finish the job by winning a medal. We have to help Tony Parker, return to him some of the things he gave us. I have the greatest respect of him and I will continue showing him this, even if he averages 2 points per game”. For Pau Gasol he added: “Even if some times his fouls are not called, he have won this because of his career and status”.
Les Bleus, without a single free throw in the opening 20 minutes, felt the calls were not going their way. "It was tough," Gobert said. "The first half I tried not to foul. Because I knew they were calling everything. Pau had a couple of baskets on me. In the second half, I tried to turn it up but I got called every time. It was tough. The rules are different in Europe. It's hard to guard on the post. You can only use one arm. I can't really touch him. It's hard to guard. When you can't use your hands, he's almost unguardable."
In the press conference Collet said: “Pau is a great player, but he can’t shoot 18 free throws, while France didn’t shot not even one in the first half. There were different kind of calls. He’s a huge player, he has an amazing tournament, but you can’t get all this calls and all the other players not getting anything. FIBA should do something about it”.
However Spanish coach Sergio Scariolo was ready to answer: “The worst thing you can do after this kind of defeat is to blame the referees. I never done it in my career. I understand that when you lose in front of 27.000 fans, you think that you have Spain down, which is playing with half its players, you have to say something. I don’t agree with this and this kind of ethics. It’s always a pleasure for me to play against a competitive team like France”.
Without him, La Roja would have never made it past the first round in Berlin. Thanks to him, they will play for the gold medal Sunday against Serbia or Lithuania, against all expectations. "I just prepared myself to play at my best level," said Gasol, now averaging a tournament-high 23.6 points per game. "I was trying to take advantage of the moment I'm going through and the good shape I'm in. Knowing that we have significant players that are not here this year, I knew I would have to carry a little more responsibility. But I try to bring inspiration and motivation to my teammates. That's what I try to do every single game."
However after Thursday’s semifinal, the captain of the French national team and San Antonio Spurs star became also the all time top passer of the Eurobaskets with 224 assists, surpassing Lithuanian legend Sarunas Jasikevicius (224). Parker has at this point the advantage, however Milos Teodosic who has 174 assists and he is still 28 years old can reach the top in the future.
For the second time in the course of seven days, the attendance record for an indoor basketball game in Europe has been broken! 26,922 people were in attendance at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille on Thursday night to watch the first #EuroBasket2015 semi-final between France and Spain!

And, that World Cup experience, coupled with the following NBA season has only made him better going into Eurobasket 2015, where he has wowed the hometown folk in Montpellier and Lille with his defensive work ethic and vast improvement on the offensive end. “It’s been great,” claimed Gobert. “I feel confident, I feel stronger and I’ve got great coaches that are helping me along the way. I’m getting great advice from my French team-mates as well and it helps that we know each other so well. Certainly playing internationals helps me when I go to the NBA season as I’m already in game shape and ready for camp. “
Porzingis didn’t play with the Latvian national team in this year's EuroBasket tournament but he plans on playing for the team in the future. “Before the draft I was going to play for the national team, especially because the group round was in Latvia. It was a huge event. But once I got drafted by the Knicks, I just felt the pressure,” Porzingis said. “I understood how good the guys were on the team and everything, so I said, ‘If I really want to gain weight and get better in the summer, playing with the national team, I’ll be playing, not gaining weight.’ So that was the best option for me this summer. But in the future, I obviously want to play for the national team. But first I have to establish my career here, in the NBA.”
Nicolas Batum speaking on Greek channel OTE TV he had only good things to say about Giannis Antetokounmpo and about his impressive improvement. According to the French, star the “Greek freak” has already taken the next step: “Antetokounmpo is amazing. His game against Spain was impressive. He is huge and very long. He is almost a 7 footer and he can play like a guard. You see him dribbling on the court and he runs with the ball like great perimeter players do. When he has the ball in his hands, he dribbles like Tony Parker”.

As Spanish coach Sergio Scariolo revealed in the press conference: “The doctors told me that Pau couldn’t play more than five minutes straight. But after the first five minutes, when I asked him to come to bench he told me now. “I will take the risk”, he answered me and he had an amazing game”.
Pau Gasol was in pain just before the start of the game against Poland and he had to run to the locker rooms in order to get medical treatment. However, this was the start of an amazing story. As Spanish coach Sergio Scariolo revealed in the press conference: “The doctors told me that Pau couldn’t play more than five minutes straight. But after the first five minutes, when I asked him to come to bench he told me now. “I will take the risk”, he answered me and he had an amazing game”. Spain’s leader led his team to the quarter-finals with an extraordinary performance, having 30 points on 6/7 from the three-point range. And while Rudy Fernandez is day to day and may miss the next big game versus Greece in the quarterfinals, Gasol is ready to play: “I never jumped off the boat and I will not do that now. We play against Greece, I will play for sure”.
Mark Woods: Gortat told me before the game he thinks Pau Gasol is the “Greatest European centre ever” - relishing challenge of that match-up.
David 'Dubi' Pick: Lithuania, Espana, Poland, Turks & more NTs ramping up complaints to FIBA about poor hotel conditions in Lille. Poland & Lithuania stressed that delivered cuisine isn't fit for Marcin Gortat, Jonas Valanciunas - NBA stars. Espana, Finland, Turks, others called for field trips for dinner. Opted against hotel menus.
By virtue of their early exit here, the Germans cannot qualify directly for Rio 2016. However a recent, belated change to the process to obtain berths in Brazil next summer means that any country taking part in the current round of continental championships can bid to host -– and participate in -- one of the three Olympic Qualification Tournaments, to take place early next summer. And with the German Federation understood to be considering a bid, the presumption that this was Nowitzki’s farewell may be mis-placed.

For now, Harrison Barnes believes he is right where he belongs, but he joked that he follows the latest trade news from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania, just in case. “You know how the NBA is,” Barnes said. “I check Woj. I check Shams. They’ve still got me here, so as far as I’m concerned, this is where I’m supposed to be and I’m going to give it my best effort.”
Barnes has been the frequent subject of trade speculation over the past two seasons. He has heard the rumors, but he said it doesn’t cause a distraction for him at this stage in his career. “That’s just part of the business,” Barnes said. “I don’t really pay too much attention to that. The biggest thing is just getting ready for opening night. That’s my focus. The guys on this court, the coaching staff, us building that trust now so, when things get going and adversity hits, you have a base of relationships that you draw on.”
