Dedmon didn’t close the door on a possible return to the Spurs, but his market could increase to roughly $8-10 million per season, league sources told the Express-News.
The 27-year-old center will notify the Spurs he intends to decline his $3 million player option next season, becoming an unrestricted free agent on July 1. “Just to see what else is out there,” Dedmon told the Express-News. “I came in with a goal and played basketball to the best of my ability. I feel like there is some more money out there than ($3 million).”
He admitted to feeling frustration about not playing, but he made the best of the situation. “Everybody wants to play, but it’s whatever the coaches decide to do,” said Dedmon. “I just want to win, be a teammate for my team, cheer everybody on and try to bring as much energy as I can whether I’m playing or not playing.”
Sources close to Dedmon told the Express-News he would be interested in returning to San Antonio, but would like to see his worth on the free agent market, as he could earn more than his $3 million salary for next season. Forward David Lee also has a deadline approaching (June 30) to decide if he’ll opt-in for next season. Lee’s option is worth $1.6 million.
