Fans of the 76ers and Lakers are extremely excited for their top draft picks — and for good reason if the ratings in "NBA 2K18" are to be believed. Both Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball will start their careers with an Overall rating of 80, an indication that the developers behind the game view the two as the most pro-ready, potential-laden prospects in years. Fultz and Ball are the highest-rated rookies to enter the "NBA 2K" series since 2010. That year, John Wall was drafted No. 1 by the Wizards and received an Overall rating of 81 in "NBA 2K11." Even the likes of Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns began with ratings below 80 since then.
NBA 2K 2K18: CHAMPIONS. @NBA2K presents your first look at @StephenCurry30 & @KDTrey5 in #NBA2K18. Who's stopping them?
NBA 2K 2K18: 1st Look: #NBA2K18 x @hornets x @DwightHoward x @Jumpman23 Dwight Howard: 81- Hmmm,, 🤔 Let's See After This Season #NBA2k18 #BuzzCity #HumbleButAlwaysWorkin 💪🏾
Another player who took issue with his rating was Kyrie Irving. Irving was rated 90 and was not pleased. Watch his reaction below, as he vows to use the “disrespect” as motivation and promises to work his way up to a 93 by the end of the season.
Hassan Whiteside: 2 Years later, leading league in two different categories @NBA2K still doesn't have my rating right. Many triple dbls and dbl dbls later 🤔😂😂
Kristaps Porzingis: I’m ready to show more in year two. I am only 80 overall in NBA 2K, so I need to improve. In terms of personal goals, I can’t predict what I’m going to do. There are goals for myself and goals for my team. I believe that we have to make the playoffs, and that’s my focus. Just gonna put this out there, though: One day I’d like to get a quadruple double, points, assists, rebounds and blocks. Melo got close to a few triple doubles last year — as the wing player in our offense, he’s in a good position to do set everyone up — so I know it’s possible in our system. Ten blocks, though … I don’t know.
Fresh off an Olympic gold medal, a day declared in his name, an Exceptional Citizenship Award and leading all NBA centers in scoring in 2015-16, DeMarcus Cousins has netted a top five ranking in NBA 2K17. Cousins is listed at a 90 overall rating in this edition of the annual release, tied with Anthony Davis, James Harden, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Sitting above Cousins are LeBron James (96), Stephen Curry (94), Kevin Durant (93), Russell Westbrook (93), Kawhi Leonard (93) and Chris Paul (91).
Raul Barrigon: Pau says, smiling, he's a bit pissed his brother Marc has a better rating than him. #GasolBros #NBA2K17
Ronnie 2K: The ratings have always been a very contentious subject because at the end of the day it’s a number, and everybody expects themselves to be the best of the best. So everybody wants to be a 99, and there’s only one 99 in the game, ’95-96 Michael Jordan. We use a ton of formulas, a ton of algorithms, a ton of discussion. So this year LeBron James is a 96 and then everyone kind of falls in line right under him. We used to have more 90’s in our game, our ratings just generally were higher, and we felt like that it didn’t create enough wiggle room to build. We have some really smart people working on the ratings team.
Any Twitter DMs from NBA players complaining about them? Ronnie 2K: Oh yeah, for sure. Absolutely. You don’t have to say any names… Ronnie 2K: I don’t want to throw them under the bus. But listen, it makes sense. Everybody wants to be a 99, everybody compares themselves to other people around their rating and say ‘Hey, I’m better than that guy, I’m better than that other guy’… It’s a really difficult thing to do. The one thing about really seeing the ratings individually is that you don’t really get a context of who they are next to. A lot of people were upset about the [Kristaps] Porzingis rating. He’s an 80, but there’s a lot of guys around him that are definitely on his level and maybe even better. I don’t mean to pick on Porzingis because I think he is one of the future Top 10 basketball players in the Association.
Can you tell us the rating of any player that is not known at the moment so we can have a 2K exclusive here at HoopsHype? Ronnie 2K: Well, let me think… Well, we talked about Lillard before: 89.
CJ McCollum: It's funny how people get mad over their @NBA2K ratings. If you dnt like your ratings go serve & get ya # up. That's what I'm on #hibachi
Fans of the Golden State Warriors have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and another milestone has been reached with the latest roster update for NBA 2K16. Reigning MVP Stephen Curry is now being recognized as the best player in the world, standing all alone as the highest rated player in the video game. Curry has been moved up a single point to 95 Overall, overtaking LeBron James who began the season as the top rated player in 2K16 but hasn't budged off that 94 rating this season. Already the best shooter in the game, Curry got boosts to his Standing Shot Close, Standing Shot Medium, Moving Shot Close, and Moving Shot Medium attributes to help moving him up the one point.
I guess one guy that people were kind of surprised at when your list came out was Kevin Durant at no. 5. For the court of public opinion, could you explain your decision there? Mike Stauffer: He shot very well last year, so his ratings are still on par with what they were the year before. This past year, it’s just that, you know, some of the ratings that we looked at for when you’re coming off injuries and … I know he’s not listed at 7 feet, but when any 7-footer is having foot injuries, you’re concerned with them coming back and being in the same form. I personally love Kevin Durant. I think his rating will be one that shoots up pretty high this season. Any rating is a projection. These ratings are very fluid. If you’re a 91, that doesn’t mean you’re gonna be a 91 all year. We have had players go up and down 10 points, depending on how they played. And because we update our rosters so frequently, we’re able to make these projections and are able to increase or decrease the player at a rate that makes sense throughout the season.
Do you use the same resources that everybody else does? You know, Synergy, Basketball-Reference … Mike Stauffer: Yeah. We use all that. I probably use Basketball-Reference the most. The player tracking on NBA.com is unbelievable. It’s crazy how in depth [it is]. There’s so much information at our fingertips; it’s a lot easier for me to get the game as accurate as possible.
Five months later, even the business partnership that he spent recent days promoting – he’s the cover athlete for the NBA 2K16 mobile app – came with the same sort of justified skepticism attached. At least that’s how he sees it. His player rating on the game was an 86, well below LeBron James’ top rating of 94 and in the neighborhood of players like the San Antonio Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard (87). Rest assured, George can’t wait for the game’s first in-season update that he’s quite sure will include an increase in his digital stock. “I’m disappointed (in the rating), obviously, but again, I was out for a whole year,” George said. “There’s not much to expect when it comes to a rating. One thing I do like about 2k is they update it during the season, so I’ve got time to get to the 90s.”
No Heat player is better known for obsessing about his NBA 2K rating than Hassan Whiteside, and he is not going to be happy about this. 2K Sports released its ratings this week and gave Whiteside an 81 (out of 100), leaving him 10th among centers. While that might sound great for a guy who was out of the league this time last year, there is no way he would agree with seeing nine centers rated ahead of him.
Curry's underhand scoop shot layup was added to his video game character's repertoire, and he participated for the first time in the game's motion capture technology after fans complained his release wasn't the same as in real life. "So I played the game, checked the release and timing," Curry said. "It looks pretty good and pretty realistic."
Brandon Jennings: Blasphemy. Kobe Bryant is #5. 2k gotta chill. The Internet just let you do whatever. Kobe led the league in scoring before he got hurt.
I’ve been on the money with my NBA 2K16 player rating predictions. I got Chris Paul being second best for point guards, and J.J. Redick and Paul Pierce being just outside the top-10 for their respective positions. Now, Blake Griffin, who 2K sports reveals to be the second best power forward in 2K16 with an 88 rating, behind top PF Anthony Davis.
Last year, the premier NBA video game, NBA 2K, gave Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard an overall rating of 87, making him the sixth-highest rated point guard in the game. This year’s yet-to-be-released edition, NBA 2K16, once again has Lillard as the sixth-rated point guard, even if his rating did drop one point to an 86 overall rating.
For the past few years, LeBron James has been the highest ranked player in the ‘NBA 2K’ series. Since winning the title in 2012, James been the King of the video game world. Any fan of the game will admit that having James on your team really gives you an advantage over any other team. James was rated a 98 and Kevin Durant was the next closest with a 95. It seems that LeBron’s time atop the basketball video game world may have come to an end. Here, we see that a leaked photo of James’ rating has dropped from a 98 to a 94.
Former MVP Kevin Durant goes from 95 last year to 91 this one. Andre Drummond sees no progress in his rating, which makes sense coming off a ho-hum season with the Pistons. Those are some takeaways from the few NBA2K ratings we know so far courtesy of @Ronnie2K. This is the updated full list with the numbers from years past included.
2K Sports has now revealed the NBA 2K16 player rating for Kobe Bryant. Some might say the rating is too low for someone as talented as him. Ronnie2K tweeted out the photo you see above. The “Black Mamba” has a player rating of 85. This is the lowest rating he has ever received in a NBA 2K game before.
Perry Jones: Damn man a 69?? Wtf I'm nice .. And where my tats at?? This me from 2011, but naw I'm just happy to be on the game .. But that update better be daily SH*T!!!!! @nba2k @ronnie2k #nba2k16. Oh yeah I forgot .. To ALL haters and doubters.. check bal

With the start of training camp just six weeks away, league sources continue to insist that the Celtics are not close to a deal that would bring Kevin Durant to Boston, and that there have not even been any real discussions of substance.
NBA analyst Brian Windhorst discussed the trade situation earlier this week on ESPN’s Get Up. Windhorst inferred that Durant has lost all of the leverage in the trade talks but so did the Nets. “The dynamic around Kevin Durant hasn’t changed at all. There hasn’t been an urgency in trade talks. There hasn’t been a change in strategy by the Brooklyn Nets,” said Windhorst. Windhorst reported, “I think what we have here is really a study of leverage. First off, the Nets do not have leverage in trade talks with other teams. They are not giving them the offers that they want. They see no reason to increase them. So, they’re not making any progress there. Kevin Durant clearly does not have leverage with the Brooklyn Nets. He is asking for things: ‘Get me traded. Fire the coach. Fire the GM.’ He is being told no. So, when you have denied leverage, you have a stalemate.”
While Kevin Durant continues to prefer a trade from the Brooklyn Nets and the trade offers the team has received haven’t satisfied them, the two parties have remained in limbo throughout the offseason. The Nets will continue to listen to trade offers, but they are also hoping Durant changes his mind and gives their team another chance this season. “What’s kind of developed over those 47 days is we now kind of have two different negotiations,” said Brian Windhorst on NBA Today on Tuesday. “One, of course, is with all those teams interested in Kevin Durant and the Nets. We just haven’t seen significant traction with any of those deals. The Nets’ asking price is very high. Their leverage for getting those teams who are interested in offering so much just hasn’t materialized.
“The other negotiation that is now developing is between Durant and the Nets. That separate negotiation about what it would like for him to come back. That’s what a big part of the discussion he had with owner Joe Tsai in London about 10, 11 days ago was. Joe Tsai and the Nets believe they have a really good team. They don’t believe they have a good trade for Kevin Durant. They want him to consider coming back. But Durant has very clearly made it known he doesn’t want to play for the Nets under the current situation with the current coach and current GM.
That leaves three roster spots, and the Celtics will be required to fill at least two of them. League sources said the preseason essentially will serve as a final audition for a collection of veterans seeking a new opportunity. Rookie guard JD Davison and veteran forward Mfiondu Kabengele will be in training camp on their two-way contracts.
Speculation ran rampant: pundits and fans alike wondered whether he had any desire to play on the team, whether he’d be the first player in NBA history to turn down a max rookie extension, whether he’d prove one of the most significant busts in NBA draft history. Much of the chatter focused uncomfortably on his size. As he’s so often done during difficult times, Williamson turned to his favorite show for guidance. I ask if there’s a point in Naruto’s story that he feels is synonymous with where he is right now. His answer is immediate. “It’s when Sasuke was going rogue,” he says, referring to Naruto’s close friend and rival. “All of Naruto’s friends and teammates came to him like, ‘Dude, you’re gonna have to make tough decisions if you really want to be Hokage.’”
