At one point during the wedding reception, Wesley Matthews found out that his overall rating in NBA 2K18 is an 83. Singh estimates that there were about 40 NBA players at the wedding and reception, including Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Kent Bazemore, Andrew Bogut and Devin Harris among others. Matthews’ 83 rating and how the 2K staff comes up with these numbers became a hot topic among the players in attendance. “I was at Harrison Barnes’ wedding and a major point of contention was Wesley’s rating,” Singh said. “He found out that he was an 83 overall and he got pretty upset about it. He kept talking to Rick Carlisle about it. Well, Rick was the MC of Harrison’s reception. It got to the point that during the reception, in front of about 40 NBA players, Rick gets on the mic and says, ‘Ronnie, we have to address this rating thing right now. You need to come up here.’
“So during the reception, I’m up there in front of these 40 NBA players explaining why the ratings are the way they are and how they’re determined. And I’m thinking, ‘This guy is in the middle of celebrating his wedding!’ Harrison’s wife was probably like, ‘I’m going to murder Ronnie after this reception.’ (laughs) They’re both amazing people – just a great couple – but I just kept thinking, ‘This is not the proper place for this!’ But Rick orchestrated it, so unfortunately I had to participate.”
“We get a lot of private messages from guys that are pretty harsh,” Singh said. “Last year, for example, Dion Waiters flipped out about his rating – and his rating was pretty good too. I want to say he was rated an 83 at the beginning of last year and, while he ended up having an excellent year, it felt fair at the time. He was just livid, though.”
While players would never admit this publicly, some have gotten mad when a specific teammate is rated higher than them in the game. Players are extremely competitive and they know their teammates’ game better than anyone, so it frustrates them when they wholeheartedly believe that they’re the better player but have a lower overall rating. In one instance, an Eastern Conference player recently direct messaged Singh on Twitter campaigning for his 2K18 rating to be higher than his star teammate because he’s been dominating offseason workouts and pick-up games.
During a question-and-answer session through The Indianapolis Star in 2015, Indiana Pacers big man LaVoy Allen was asked about his 75-overall rating in the game and gave a surprising response. “It’s way too high,” Allen said through the outlet’s Twitter account. “Lavoy Allen is the only player I’ve ever seen or heard of who said that his rating is too high,” Stauffer said with a laugh. “He may have been joking. But, as far as I know, he’s the only player who’s said that.”

Fans of the 76ers and Lakers are extremely excited for their top draft picks — and for good reason if the ratings in "NBA 2K18" are to be believed. Both Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball will start their careers with an Overall rating of 80, an indication that the developers behind the game view the two as the most pro-ready, potential-laden prospects in years. Fultz and Ball are the highest-rated rookies to enter the "NBA 2K" series since 2010. That year, John Wall was drafted No. 1 by the Wizards and received an Overall rating of 81 in "NBA 2K11." Even the likes of Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns began with ratings below 80 since then.

Another player who took issue with his rating was Kyrie Irving. Irving was rated 90 and was not pleased. Watch his reaction below, as he vows to use the “disrespect” as motivation and promises to work his way up to a 93 by the end of the season.
Hassan Whiteside: 2 Years later, leading league in two different categories @NBA2K still doesn't have my rating right. Many triple dbls and dbl dbls later 🤔😂😂
Kristaps Porzingis: I’m ready to show more in year two. I am only 80 overall in NBA 2K, so I need to improve. In terms of personal goals, I can’t predict what I’m going to do. There are goals for myself and goals for my team. I believe that we have to make the playoffs, and that’s my focus. Just gonna put this out there, though: One day I’d like to get a quadruple double, points, assists, rebounds and blocks. Melo got close to a few triple doubles last year — as the wing player in our offense, he’s in a good position to do set everyone up — so I know it’s possible in our system. Ten blocks, though … I don’t know.
Fresh off an Olympic gold medal, a day declared in his name, an Exceptional Citizenship Award and leading all NBA centers in scoring in 2015-16, DeMarcus Cousins has netted a top five ranking in NBA 2K17. Cousins is listed at a 90 overall rating in this edition of the annual release, tied with Anthony Davis, James Harden, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Sitting above Cousins are LeBron James (96), Stephen Curry (94), Kevin Durant (93), Russell Westbrook (93), Kawhi Leonard (93) and Chris Paul (91).
Raul Barrigon: Pau says, smiling, he's a bit pissed his brother Marc has a better rating than him. #GasolBros #NBA2K17
Ronnie 2K: The ratings have always been a very contentious subject because at the end of the day it’s a number, and everybody expects themselves to be the best of the best. So everybody wants to be a 99, and there’s only one 99 in the game, ’95-96 Michael Jordan. We use a ton of formulas, a ton of algorithms, a ton of discussion. So this year LeBron James is a 96 and then everyone kind of falls in line right under him. We used to have more 90’s in our game, our ratings just generally were higher, and we felt like that it didn’t create enough wiggle room to build. We have some really smart people working on the ratings team.
Any Twitter DMs from NBA players complaining about them? Ronnie 2K: Oh yeah, for sure. Absolutely. You don’t have to say any names… Ronnie 2K: I don’t want to throw them under the bus. But listen, it makes sense. Everybody wants to be a 99, everybody compares themselves to other people around their rating and say ‘Hey, I’m better than that guy, I’m better than that other guy’… It’s a really difficult thing to do. The one thing about really seeing the ratings individually is that you don’t really get a context of who they are next to. A lot of people were upset about the [Kristaps] Porzingis rating. He’s an 80, but there’s a lot of guys around him that are definitely on his level and maybe even better. I don’t mean to pick on Porzingis because I think he is one of the future Top 10 basketball players in the Association.
Can you tell us the rating of any player that is not known at the moment so we can have a 2K exclusive here at HoopsHype? Ronnie 2K: Well, let me think… Well, we talked about Lillard before: 89.
CJ McCollum: It's funny how people get mad over their @NBA2K ratings. If you dnt like your ratings go serve & get ya # up. That's what I'm on #hibachi
Brandon Jennings: Naw Jared my dude I like him. I'm just joking around
Brandon Jennings: no but seriously I understand I was hurt and away. But come on
Fans of the Golden State Warriors have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and another milestone has been reached with the latest roster update for NBA 2K16. Reigning MVP Stephen Curry is now being recognized as the best player in the world, standing all alone as the highest rated player in the video game. Curry has been moved up a single point to 95 Overall, overtaking LeBron James who began the season as the top rated player in 2K16 but hasn't budged off that 94 rating this season. Already the best shooter in the game, Curry got boosts to his Standing Shot Close, Standing Shot Medium, Moving Shot Close, and Moving Shot Medium attributes to help moving him up the one point.
I guess one guy that people were kind of surprised at when your list came out was Kevin Durant at no. 5. For the court of public opinion, could you explain your decision there? Mike Stauffer: He shot very well last year, so his ratings are still on par with what they were the year before. This past year, it’s just that, you know, some of the ratings that we looked at for when you’re coming off injuries and … I know he’s not listed at 7 feet, but when any 7-footer is having foot injuries, you’re concerned with them coming back and being in the same form. I personally love Kevin Durant. I think his rating will be one that shoots up pretty high this season. Any rating is a projection. These ratings are very fluid. If you’re a 91, that doesn’t mean you’re gonna be a 91 all year. We have had players go up and down 10 points, depending on how they played. And because we update our rosters so frequently, we’re able to make these projections and are able to increase or decrease the player at a rate that makes sense throughout the season.
Do you use the same resources that everybody else does? You know, Synergy, Basketball-Reference … Mike Stauffer: Yeah. We use all that. I probably use Basketball-Reference the most. The player tracking on NBA.com is unbelievable. It’s crazy how in depth [it is]. There’s so much information at our fingertips; it’s a lot easier for me to get the game as accurate as possible.
Five months later, even the business partnership that he spent recent days promoting – he’s the cover athlete for the NBA 2K16 mobile app – came with the same sort of justified skepticism attached. At least that’s how he sees it. His player rating on the game was an 86, well below LeBron James’ top rating of 94 and in the neighborhood of players like the San Antonio Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard (87). Rest assured, George can’t wait for the game’s first in-season update that he’s quite sure will include an increase in his digital stock. “I’m disappointed (in the rating), obviously, but again, I was out for a whole year,” George said. “There’s not much to expect when it comes to a rating. One thing I do like about 2k is they update it during the season, so I’ve got time to get to the 90s.”
No Heat player is better known for obsessing about his NBA 2K rating than Hassan Whiteside, and he is not going to be happy about this. 2K Sports released its ratings this week and gave Whiteside an 81 (out of 100), leaving him 10th among centers. While that might sound great for a guy who was out of the league this time last year, there is no way he would agree with seeing nine centers rated ahead of him.
Curry's underhand scoop shot layup was added to his video game character's repertoire, and he participated for the first time in the game's motion capture technology after fans complained his release wasn't the same as in real life. "So I played the game, checked the release and timing," Curry said. "It looks pretty good and pretty realistic."

Keegan Murray leads Kings to 3-0 record in California Classic

Matt George: The Sacramento Kings go 3-0 in the California Classic, led by 19.6 points, 8 rebounds and 51% shooting from 4th overall pick Keegan Murray.
Kylen Mills: JUST IN: The Warriors have signed guard Lester Quinones to a two-way contract, per the team. Quinones, 21, played 3 seasons at the University of Memphis, averaging 10.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 27.6 minutes over 87 games (81 starts). #dubnation @kron4news

Quentin Grimes has a simple goal for his stay in Las Vegas. “Really come out here and dominate,” he said after the Knicks summer league team went through its first practice at Cox Pavilion. “I feel like I played well last year. Just coming in this year being a second-year guy, I know what to expect, I know how the games are. Just go out there and try to dominate every time offensively and defensively.”
“It was my first year really ever coming off the bench,” Grimes said. “You got to earn Thibs’ trust, earn Thibs’ minutes. Going in you have to fight for everything to get the opportunity, make the most of it. I had an injury, had to go through adversity. I think it made me ready for whatever’s to come this year.”

During this year’s 2022 NBA draft, 19-year-old Paolo Banchero was the first overall pick by the Orlando Magic. And he wore a very eccentric outfit that made him stand out. His bespoke purple suit, from Dolce & Gabbana, was so expressive that it inspired Italian custom car company Garage Italia to create a mockup of a car that channels the same eye-catching, eccentric vibe as his suit. Their choice was a “made in the U.S.A. sports car that embodies the power and athleticism of the Magic’s first-round pick,” a Dodge Viper ACR.
The vehicle also features Banchero’s mantra, “Stay true.” The car comes with an Orlando license plate, which is his upcoming destination.

Jontay Porter says Jamal Murray, Michael Porter 'look great' in injury recovery

According to Michael Porter Jr.’s brother, Jontay, whose knee injuries sidelined him the past season but is back with the Nuggets’ Summer League team, Jamal Murray’s agility is coming along. “He looked great,” Porter said. “His jumper is as amazing as ever. He’s moving really well, too, especially coming from a guy who’s had ACL injuries as well.”
