More on Anthony Davis Injury

New Orleans four-time All-Star forward Anthony Davis was not on the court during the portion of Tuesday’s shootaround that’s open to the media and he also didn’t go through his usual pregame warmup with Pelicans teammate Tim Frazier, but Alvin Gentry said Davis is expected to play against the Grizzlies tonight. “As far as we know, he’s going to play,” Gentry said, roughly 90 minutes before tip-off of the Southwest Division game. “He just had a little sickness.”
Anthony Davis briefly feared the worst Wednesday. On a play at the end of the second quarter vs. Toronto, Davis hit his left wrist on the rim, a sequence eerily similar to when he fractured his hand earlier in his career during a game in New York. Fortunately for Davis and the Pelicans, this time X-rays came back negative; three days later, he is 100 percent and will be available Saturday – on his 24th birthday, no less – against the Charlotte Hornets.
Anthony Davis says he expects to play Friday night against the San Antonio Spurs. The New Orleans Pelicans star is officially listed as probable with a right thigh bruise that has sidelined him for one full game and parts of two more, including the second half of Wednesday's loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Anthony Davis will not play for the New Orleans Pelicans in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night. Before New Orleans made the announcement, Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said Terrence Joneswould start at center if Davis was sidelined by his right quad contusion, which occurred during New Orleans' loss to Brooklyn on Friday night.
Scott Kushner: Alvin Gentry said Anthony Davis did not practice today (thigh contusion). He does not believe it is a long term issue though. #Pelicans
Anthony Davis left during the third quarter of the New Orleans Pelicans' game in Indiana after suffering right hip and left thumb injuries from a hard fall underneath the basket. X-rays came back negative, and Davis did not return to the Pelicans' bench. "Don't know anything yet," Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters in Indianapolis after the game. "We'll just check with the doctors and see. I'm sure it's going to be a bruise, and we'll see to what extent it will be."
Anthony Davis' status for Thursday's interconference game was changed to out. The three-time All-Star forward will miss a game for just the third time during the regular season (in 40 New Orleans contests).
Scott Kushner: Davis said he injured his left hip when Kyle O'Quinn committed a flagrant foul, forcing Davis to run full speed into a courtside seat at MSG
Jennifer Hale: Good news for @PelicansNBA: x rays on Anthony Davis' hip came back negative. Now it's just a matter of letting bruising heal.
New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis underwent an X-ray after a 101-92 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday, according to league sources. Davis denied the account when approached by ESPN, but the Pelicans forward was observed receiving treatment, including a black wrap, on his right foot at his locker before speaking to the media.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis will not play Wednesday night at Orlando because of a thigh injury. Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said Davis was injured Monday night against Boston but did not show any signs of being injured immediately following the game. Davis complained of tightness Tuesday and then again during shoot around Wednesday. So the decision was made to sit him against the Warriors.
Anthony Davis confirmed Friday he will miss 10-14 days after suffering a right ankle sprain in the second of the New Orleans Pelicans' two preseason games in China against the Houston Rockets. Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said he doesn't know the severity of the sprain, but a source told The Undefeated's Marc Spears after the game Wednesday morning that Davis suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain and would miss 10-14 days.
Gentry said Davis' injury "happens all the time" and that he just "needs the necessary days to make it better." Davis is "going to be back soon, there's not anything to be concerned about," Gentry said.
Davis said he'd like to play in the Pelicans' regular-season opener on Oct. 26 against the Denver Nuggets, which comes 14 days after the injury first occurred. But Davis also said he wants to be smart about the injury to avoid further complications. "We're constantly checking on it every day," Davis said. "When I feel ready and able to get back on the floor, then I'll get back on the floor."
Marc J. Spears: Pelicans big man Anthony Davis does not have a serious foot injury and is walking around fine after being injured in the 1st quarter tonight in Beijing versus Houston, a source said.
Scott Kushner: Gentry said he's unsure how severe Anthony Davis' ankle sprain is. He has not yet spoken to trainers about it.
It was Davis' first full-scaled work with his teammates since he underwent a surgical procedure in March to fix a stress reaction problem in his left knee cap. Davis also suffered a torn labrum last season, but he did not require surgery on his left shoulder. ''I feel great and I'm just happy to be out there,'' Davis said. ''I love the game so much that it started to be frustrating when I couldn't play or they pull you out. The main goal is to be ready for October 26 (opener against Denver). ''Right now, I think I'm heading in the right direction toward getting there. Today everything felt great. I feel like I'm more explosive than what I was and more powerful.''
Roughly 5 1/2 months after undergoing a procedure on his left knee that ended his 2015-16 season, three-time All-Star power forward Anthony Davis has been cleared for basketball activity. Davis scrimmaged for the first time on Wednesday. The 23-year-old has added some strength to his frame and now weighs 250 pounds, up more than 30 pounds from his rookie season of 2012-13.
“We definitely came to an agreement, to figure out what’s best for the long term,” Davis said. “As a player, you don’t want to have chronic pains or a chronic injury with anything. I want to play double-digit years in the league, not just seven or eight years. It sucks, but it’s something that needs to be done.”
After further evaluation and consultation with Dr. Neal ElAttrach in Los Angeles, it has been determined that Davis won’t require surgery on his left shoulder to repair a partially torn labrum.

Anthony Davis’ season is over. Alvin Gentry told reporters during his pregame media session Sunday that New Orleans has decided to shut down the three-time All-Star for the remaining 14 games of 2015-16, a decision that factors in the 23-year-old’s left knee and shoulder injuries. “We’re going to shut him down. He’s done for the year,” Gentry said. “It’s unfortunate, but he’s got an issue with his shoulder that he’s played with the whole season. It’s amazing when people talk about him being soft or whatever; they don’t understand that he’s played through a situation with his shoulder the entire season.”
Along with what appears to have been a season-long issue with his shoulder, Davis injured his left knee Friday vs. Portland, when he was contacted by Portland’s C.J. McCollum and teammate Jrue Holiday. The knee also needs treatment. “He has an issue with his knee that we’re going to get corrected,” Gentry said. “I think for us, we have to look at things long term, and we have to look at what’s best for the future of our franchise. For that reason, he won’t play anymore this season.”
John Reid: Anthony Davis has a left knee injury and a shoulder problem. Alvin Gentry said they are consulting with doctors on a conference call today.
Anthony Davis was held out of the second half of the New Orleans Pelicans' 117-112 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday with what New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry described as a sore left knee. “There’s no reason for us to take any kind of chances with him right now,” Gentry said. “So that’s why we just held him out. I didn’t think it made sense to try to stick him back out there and play in the situation that we’re in right now.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis will play Saturday night against the Brooklyn Nets after clearing the NBA's concussion protocol, Davis left the Pelicans' 112-111 loss to Houston on Monday after his head collided with teammate Tyreke Evans' elbow in the second quarter. He was sidelined for just one game, a nine-point win over Sacramento.
The Pelicans officially listed Davis as questionable to play for the game that will tip off 2:30 p.m. central. ''Obviously, he's just really sore,'' Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said after Saturday 's practice.''There's nothing there that's (structurally) damaged just a bruise. We'll just how to see how he feels. He fell really hard and hit on a piece of a chair that got him pretty good really. He took out a whole row there. We'll see how it goes.''
The Pelicans will face the Jazz in Salt Lake City on Saturday before heading back to New Orleans to host the Grizzlies on Tuesday. Gentry said Davis’s status for the Jazz game will be determined after further testing on Saturday. “We don’t know,” Gentry said of Davis. “It’s something that will have to be looked at [Saturday].”
Dan Woike: Pels bench clearly frustrated, probably upset w/ CP3 on the play. From where media sits, looked like a play that happens 10 times a game

The early around-the-league reaction to Washington’s hiring of Michael Winger to take over its front office: Pretty much every rival team I’ve spoken to is already expecting aggressive activity from the Winger-led Wizards. Don’t forget, though, that Bradley Beal can’t be in play for a trade unless he wants to be. Beal holds the NBA’s only active and full no-trade clause as he enters Year 2 of a five-year, $251 million contract, so Washington can’t send him anywhere without Beal’s consent. Also TBD: Is Kristaps Porziņģis still a near-lock to receive a contract extension from the Wizards, as it appeared earlier this season, or likely to join the in-demand Kyle Kuzma on the Wizards’ list of marquee unrestricted free agents?
One week after shocking the world in Kaunas with the two-pointer that gave Real Madrid the win against Olympiacos and the 11th EuroLeague in the club’s history, Sergio Llull wrote that history once again. The 35-year-old Spanish veteran just became Real Madrid‘s leading scorer in the ACB. With a three-pointer to give Real Madrid the 25-point lead in the last minutes of the second quarter against Gran Canaria, in Game 1 of the ACB Quarter-Finals between the EuroLeague and EuroCup champions, Sergio Llull overcame Felipe Reyes in this special ranking, crossing the line of 6.019 points.

Mavericks not interested in Kyrie Irving sign-and-trade with Lakers for D’Angelo Russell

A popular topic all week, in the wake of Denver sweeping the Lakers out of the Western Conference finals, was the notion that L.A. could emerge as a potential sign-and-trade destination for Dallas’ free agent-to-be Kyrie Irving. While we await a clear indication about the Lakers’ intentions there, with no verifiable signal to date that pursuing Irving is among their offseason priorities, league sources say that the Mavericks would have no interest in a sign-and-trade with the Lakers that features D’Angelo Russell as the primary Dallas-bound player. All indications are that the Mavericks remain intent on re-signing Irving.
The former No. 2 overall pick has already expressed a desire to return to Los Angeles, but his future with the team remains unclear especially after Darvin Ham decided to bring him off the bench in Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets. Russell acknowledged it was a tough situation for him but wanted to remain as professional as possible about it. “I mean, it was tough,” Russell admitted. “It was tough to agree with it obviously, but in a short period of time to not become a distraction to your teammates and to everybody else that’s preparing just like you to get the one goal done which is win. I knew that was where you had to be professional. You can’t be a distraction at this point of the season and things like that, so that’s kind of how I went about it. I wanted to be professional and try to dominate my minutes when there were minutes for me.”
The Celtics had to find their togetherness and it was his job as the OG to make that happen. Horford told Mazzulla to ditch the film session, organizing a team trip to Topgolf instead. They needed to have fun with each other and feel the joy again. “We completely skipped film,” Grant Williams told The Athletic. “We kept basketball away and we just focused on each other and getting that camaraderie and team back. We disconnected from the actual pressures and we were able to just enjoy one another. We’ve done movies before, we’ve done dinners. But that was our first time doing something active like that. Then we hit the film the next day.”
