NBA rumors: Nets adding James Webb III

More on G League Call Ups

Adrian Wojnarowski: The Indiana Pacers are signing forward Ben Moore of G League affiliate in Ft. Wayne to a two-way contract, league sources tell ESPN. Moore is an undrafted rookie out of SMU.
Hardaway Jr. envisioned a great partnership if point guard Trey Burke is called up from the G-League. Together at the University of Michigan, they made up one of the best backcourts in the NCAA. “It’d be great if he does get called up. We play off one another very, very well,” Hardaway Jr. said. “I would definitely be happy with him. It would be like the old times; just him bringing the ball up the court and me running the wing, just doing our thing. It won’t take that long for us to mesh. That’s a positive.”
Shams Charania: Sources: The New York Knicks and Trey Burke of G League Westchester are in serious talks on a deal, with the guard expected to be held out of the showcase and an agreement as soon as the weekend.
The Knicks' offense is floundering and there's a desire from some in the organization to call up their G-League star Trey Burke, a source told the Daily News. However, there's also a big obstacle to such a move — the team would need to create a roster spot. Burke, a 25-year-old point guard, signed with the Knicks in October but was immediately released and sent down to the G-League team in Westchester, where he's averaging 27.3 points and shooting nearly 50 percent.
New York's current starting point guard, Jarrett Jack, is the only Knick on a non-guaranteed deal. His contract will become guaranteed if he's not cut by Jan. 7 because it takes a full 48 hours to clear waivers (the guarantee date is technically Jan. 10). Among the other 14 players on the roster, point guard Ramon Sessions would be the most likely waiver-wire candidate given his small contract and lack of playing time.
However, the Knicks would prefer to make a trade to free up a roster spot. They already waived a player on a guaranteed deal (Mindaugas Kuzminskas) to make room for the return of Joakim Noah following a PED suspension.
Michael Grange: Chatted with Edy Tavares, ex-Raptors 905-turned LeBron's newest teammate. Said his agent had to tell him 3x before he believed the news.
Rick Noland: Tavares signed for 2 more seasons after this one. Griff says he's more game ready than Sanders
The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard Dahntay Jones and center Edy Tavares, Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin announced on Wednesday from Cleveland Clinic Courts.
Shams Charania‏: Sources: Pistons signing guard Lorenzo Brown of D-League, releasing Beno Udrih. Udrih had productive season for DET before injury Sunday.
Chris Reichert: The New Orleans Pelicans are signing Axel Toupane from the Raptors 905, per @Shams Charania. The Raptors 905 losing Axel Toupane in the playoffs could be a back breaker. He had 41 points in their game 1 win over Canton #NBADL
Bobby Marks: Strong gesture by Nets management honoring the commitment to Cliff Alexander and Prince Ibeh. Nets had committee to both players for a 10-day contract this season but injuries derailed the signing. The Nets commitment to both is similar to what Golden State did with Jose Calderon and his agent Mark Bartelstein back in early March.
The Orlando Magic have signed Patricio Garino and Marcus Georges-Hunt today. Garino and Georges-Hunt will be with the team for the remainder of this season, and their contracts will include non-guaranteed salaries for at least the 2017-18 season. They are expected to play summer-league ball for the Magic and then have an opportunity to earn regular-season roster spots in training camp.
Former Georgia Tech star Marcus Georges-Hunt will sign with the Orlando Magic for the remainder of the season. Georges-Hunt will join the team for its final five regular-season games, a good friend of Georges-Hunt’s confirmed. An Orlando Sentinel article reported on Sunday that the signing appeared likely. “I’d say it’s definitely for sure,” said Shawn Fowler, a Tech donor and graduate who had communicated with Georges-Hunt Sunday.
The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Gary Payton II to a multi-year contract, General Manager John Hammond announced today. Payton, 24, appeared in 49 games (all starts) with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League this season, and averaged 14.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals in 32.7 minutes per game while shooting 49.8 percent from the field.
Scott Agness: Sixers officially call up rookie Alex Poythress from the Mad Ants using NBA’s roster hardship exception. He's in Toronto for tonight's game.
"When I got the 10-day, that was the accomplishment. I didn't really feel like I was on a 10-day once I was here," Crawford said. "The hard part was getting the 10-day. I was grateful for the opportunity, when I (got) here I just wanted to make myself as comfortable as possible and just try to play my game."
Crawford is averaging 14.3 points in his first seven games with the Pelicans and is shooting a staggering 51.9 percent from the 3-point line on 5.4 attempts per game. Crawford said that he was determined to make his way back into the league, and once he was given a chance by the Pelicans, his mission was to display that he was still capable of being an explosive scorer in the NBA.
The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard David Nwaba to a multi-year contract, it was announced today by General Manager Rob Pelinka. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.
“We have been impressed by David’s focus and determination, especially on defense,” said Pelinka. “He has a mentality about him that is infectious, and he works hard every day to improve himself. He has brought energy to both our Lakers and D-Fenders games, and has certainly earned his spot on the roster.”

Chris Reichert: Brooklyn Nets officially announce Archie Goodwin signing. He's the 40th D-League call up this season #NBADL
David Nwaba, who signed a 10-day contract with the Lakers last week, was encouraged by Walton's recent compliments. But when the Lakers mull whether to grant Nwaba a second 10-day contract on Friday, the variables go beyond Walton liking Nwaba’s defense. “We want to look at a couple of people before the season ends,” Walton said. “Some of them aren’t available right now. (Nwaba’s) been good. But we have to decide if we want to wait or look at someone else.”
“Sometimes guys don’t really believe in me. It’s your job to prove them wrong,” Nwaba said. “I can do more. I have high expectations for myself. Getting to those expectations is the ultimate goal.”
Aaron Falk: The Houston Rockets will sign small forward Troy Williams to a 10 day contract, league sources inform the Salt Lake Tribune
The New Orleans Pelicans announced the team has signed free agent guard Jordan Crawford to a 10-day contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

New Orleans Pelicans shooting guard Hollis Thompson's 10-day contract is set to expire on Sunday, but he is expected to be extended a second 10-day contract. Harper, a two-time NBA D-League All-Star, most recently saw action with the Los Angeles D-Fenders, where he appeared in 37 games (all starts) and posted averages of 16 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes per game, while shooting 40 percent from three-point range.
Chris Reichert: The Los Angeles Lakers have officially signed David Nwaba from the D-Fenders to 10-day deal. He's the 31st D-League call up this year
The Dallas Mavericks reached down to the NBA Development League and signed Ferrell to a 10-day contract on Jan. 28, and after three games the Mavs and Ferrell agreed to a two-year contract that pays him $208,000 this season and $1.3 million next season. Cook played for the D-League’s Canton Charge, but signed a 10-day contract with the Mavs on Sunday. In the process, the 6-foot-2 guard noted that he and the rest of the D-League players were some of Ferrell’s biggest cheerleaders. “Guys in the D-League, we all root for guys who get called up (to the NBA),” Cook said. “I think guys who prosper from getting called up on 10-day contracts give us a lot of confidence.”
Chris Haynes: Charlotte to sign guard Briante Weber to 10-day contract, league sources tell ESPN. Weber recently completed two 10-days with Golden State.

The word in Spanish basketball circles, as reiterated to me Friday, is that Marc Gasol is most likely to play for Girona if he decides to play on, even though the LEB Oro is one level below Spain’s top tier. I’m told he has been working out with new Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio to stay sharp even after negotiating his release earlier this week from Memphis following the Grizzlies’ recent trade with the Lakers to take on the final year of Gasol’s last NBA contract.
Ballots for the NBA’s 75th anniversary team were due back to the league office today. The league previously announced that the official list of its 75 greatest players, as selected by “a blue-ribbon panel of media, current and former players, coaches, general managers and team executives,” will be revealed in October. The voters will also be revealed — not their full individual ballots but the names of those who made the selections.
