Cops say Butler's Range Rover was traveling at very high speed around 2:30 AM on Jan. 31 when he lost control and struck several parking meters, slammed into a wall and flipped two times before coming to a stop. Judging from the audio, it sounds like Butler slammed on the brakes and tried to avoid the collision -- but he was going too fast to regain control of the vehicle.
Mark Medina: Warriors list Patrick McCaw as questionable for tonight against Denver. He has a bruised toe. As noted before, David West will be out tonight so he attend funeral services for Rasual Butler.
Warriors forward David West was feeling it heavily Thursday. Butler, 38, and his wife, R&B singer Leah LaBelle were killed Wednesday in a traffic accident in Southern California. The two had been special guests on West’s float during the Warriors’ championship parade last June. “We were really tight,” West said. “Just a tough loss, a good dude. He and his wife were good people and its just life.”
The team held a moment of silence before tipoff of Thursday’s game against Houston at the AT&T Center. “Just another lesson in how short life can be and how important it is to enjoy each other,” Popovich said. “The sadness is just the same for all of us. … It’s always a shock, always a loss, but much more so to their own families. And obviously his wife was with him, which makes it even more tragic.”
“We had him briefly, it was less than a season, but you could already tell the type of demeanor he had toward his teammates,” guard Manu Ginobili said. “He was a great guy. It is sad to lose a teammate and somebody your age that you shared things with. It was a tough day.”
He was mourned in Philadelphia, where he was raised and went to college at La Salle; in Miami, where he played his first three NBA seasons, and all over the league. That includes Minnesota, where he never even played a regular-season game. “He was amazing. He taught me a lot in that little time,” Karl-Anthony Towns said. “I remember playing pick-up with him all the time and having dinners and stuff. Just the things we used to do as a team, it was amazing.”
“He was one of the classiest guys in the NBA,” Thibodeau said of Butler. “Every team that he was on, everybody loved him. He'll be missed.”

For something like a partial ACL tear, diagnosing that was important. What are the differences between knee sprains that affect the ACL ligament? DR. NGUYEN: So the grading scale is more of a guideline. Grade ones and grade threes are relatively straightforward in terms of treatment. The grade ones, usually non-operative, the grade threes are typically operative for elite athletes. Basketball players and soccer players, football players, are required to do a lot of cutting and pivoting.
The grade twos are where you kind of get into the gray zones. There are some patients where the instability that the patients feel, depend on how ACL dependent they are. There are people who have ACL tears and don’t feel any instability. There are people who have ACL tears, and they feel very unstable. So from a clinical perspective, you have to analyze how unstable their knee is objectively and subjectively. So if a patient says that their knee is unstable, even with a partial ACL tear, then typically they need surgery to stabilize that and reconstruct the ACL. But if they’re not clinically unstable, meaning that the knee feels stable, and they don’t have any symptoms from it, there are times where people can be treated non operatively, and rehab and play sports without any issues. So it really depends on the patient.
