Kyle Goon: Ricky Rubio says his former agent Dan Fegan was always kind to him and his family. He credited him with bringing him over to the NBA, and said he was one of the best in the business and one of the smartest guys in every room. “We kept in touch because he was a friend.”
Liz Mullen: The family of the late NBA agent, Dan Fegan, issued a statement through Fegan's spokesman, Terry Fahn of Sitrick and Company. Dan Fegan Family Statement:
Jusuf Nurkic: You were a great man and a better friend. I knew I liked you since the moment we met. As I saw you in your bathrobe and slippers I thought I like this guy. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. #RipDanFegan
Dwight Howard: My heart and prayers go out to the family, especially Dan’s young son who was apparently injured in this accident. #RestWithGod 🙏🏾 twitter.com/theaspentimes/…
Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge recalled how passionate Fegan was about seeking the best care for Fegan's brother after he was diagnosed with cancer. "I just remember Dan very emotionally talking to me about getting whatever help we could provide his family in getting his brother into Mass General [hospital in Boston] as quickly as possible for treatment," Ainge said. "He cared so deeply about helping his brother."
At one time, Fegan represented some of the biggest names in the NBA: Dwight Howard, DeMarcus Cousins, John Wall, Ricky Rubio, Amar’e Stoudemire, DeAndre Jordan and Shawn Marion. He had an aggressive style and was known for trying to force some of his clients from one team to another in what were sometimes public clashes. It created a difficult situation, but Fegan was determined to do what he thought was best for his client.
Fegan, who had an appreciation for fly-fishing, skiing, chess and the author Jim Harrison, was also respected by team executives who knew he negotiated on behalf of his clients. As Fegan got older, his client list decreased as he spent more time with his son. Just weeks ago, Fegan, who also had a home in the Los Angeles area, was debating staying home for All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles to see friends and acquaintances or spend the weekend in Aspen.

Fegan, 56, who at one time was the most well-respected agents in the NBA, had a very public split last March with the Independent Sports & Entertainment agency he worked for. The two sides were involved in a lawsuit after he was fired.
Fegan was killed when the SUV he was driving was hit by a Roaring Fork Transportation Authority bus along Highway 82, the Colorado State Patrol said. Two other passengers in the SUV, a 29-year-old woman from California and Fegan’s 5-year-old son, were airlifted to a hospital in Denver with serious injuries, according to Colorado State Trooper Gabe Easton. The name of the woman has not been released.
