A player known for his toughness, effort and defensive ability, Briante Weber was recently released by the Warriors and picked up by the Charlotte Hornets shortly after. “What I am hoping to prove is that I belong in this league,” Weber told me. “I know I’m not what everybody wants but I know what I bring to the table. Do you feel like you might need to free a roster spot for buyout season? Bob Myers: “Well, Briante is on his second 10-day and it’s really a 12-day because (it has to last three games). That’ll give us more time to evaluate him push it past the deadline. So we’ll see who was or was not traded and who might or might not be a candidate for a buyout. The buyout market is always fluid. It’s unpredictable. Often times you hear a player’s name and that doesn’t come to fruition or conversely, you’ll not have thought of a possibility and that pops up. So technically, having let (Anderson) Varejao go, we have a spot. (Briante) Weber currently has it. We can be flexible. So we’ll see what happens. It’s kind of hard to speculate on the buyout market because it’s somewhat unpredictable.”

Other than adding Briante Weber to a 10-day contract — and, reportedly, another — the Warriors should stand pat. “As we look at our roster moving forward, I think where we’re going to grow is within our own team,” Harris said.

When Erik Spoelstra was asked Monday about the battle for the final roster spot between Beno Udrih and Briante Weber, he gave a very interesting answer. “It’s not a competition just between those two,” Spoelstra said. It turns out that Udrih and Weber aren’t just competing against each other for Miami’s 15th roster spot. The pair of point guards are also competing against 25-year-old shooting guard Rodney McGruder. “Yeah, he is,” Spoelstra said Wednesday when asked if McGruder is still in the race for a roster spot. With the Heat’s roster still at the NBA preseason maximum of 20 players, Miami must cut its roster to the regular-season maximum of 15 players by Monday’s deadline. With 14 players pretty much guaranteed a spot on the roster, that leaves Udrih, Weber and McGruder fighting for the final opening.
