With Henson out again on Tuesday, Maker and veteran Tyler Zeller will be counted on to maintain the momentum the group has enjoyed recently. Despite his struggles throughout the season, the Bucks’ confidence in Maker has never wavered. “It came from last year, really,” Bucks swingman Khris Middleton said. “He started tons of games for us last year, started in the playoffs for us last year and he played well in his rookie year. This year he’s been up and down, I don’t know why, but when he’s gotten in the game [in the playoffs], he’s produced. That’s where the confidence is coming from. We’ve all seen him before.”

What the Bulls first-round pick didn’t know is there would also be a magic show. And an NBA 2K video-game tournament. And a straight-talk moment from 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony.
There are interactive workshops and smaller breakout sessions to keep players engaged. But when someone such as Grant Hill or Anthony Davis, both of whom presented at this year’s program, is talking attention is assumed. “You get those guys who are so engaged,” said Greg Taylor, the NBA’s senior vice president of player development. “They come ready to learn. They’re sitting in the front row.”

Kemba Walker can’t avoid it. Whenever he sets foot in the five boroughs, the questions come from every direction. “I’ve been hearing it for years,” Walker said Thursday, after working with youngsters at the National Basketball Players Association summer camp. “Every time I come home, ‘When are you going to come home and play for the Knicks?’ I know it’s a special place, I was a Knicks fan growing up, always rooted for the home team. But I just can’t see myself in a Knicks jersey, only because I’ve only been in one jersey.”
