For a second straight game, New Orleans will face a formidable Northwest Division foe Monday, again without the services of five-time All-Star forward Anthony Davis. Just prior to this morning’s shootaround in Colorado, Davis (right elbow sprain) was officially ruled out of a Western Conference meeting with the Denver Nuggets.
Davis’ status going forward is day-to-day, with New Orleans fourth-year head coach Alvin Gentry saying, “He still has a sore elbow. We’re not going to take any chances six games into the season. When he feels better, we’ll play him.”
“We’ve got to do a little more,” said Jrue Holiday, who indicated that he expects to slide over to point guard in Monday’s game. “Rebounding, (without) his presence on the court, sometimes being a little more physical on the bigs. The guards, we have to crack back and keep those bigs off the boards.”

He exited Wednesday night's contest at the Sacramento Kings in the third quarter after rolling his left ankle after grabbing a rebound. The Pelicans announced that X-rays taken were negative, but Davis did not return in the team's 114-101 win -- New Orleans' 10th straight victory. Coach Alvin Gentry said Davis will get an MRI on Thursday when the team returns home.

Anthony Davis briefly feared the worst Wednesday. On a play at the end of the second quarter vs. Toronto, Davis hit his left wrist on the rim, a sequence eerily similar to when he fractured his hand earlier in his career during a game in New York. Fortunately for Davis and the Pelicans, this time X-rays came back negative; three days later, he is 100 percent and will be available Saturday – on his 24th birthday, no less – against the Charlotte Hornets.
