Jefferson wanted to stay in the states to prove himself instead, to prove he could make it in the NBA. Even if that meant extended time in the D-League. “It might have been a gamble to go to the D-League, but you have to believe in yourself,” Jefferson said. “I chose to bet on myself and I know I can add to an NBA roster.”
San Antonio selected him with the last pick in that June’s NBA Draft, No. 60 overall, a pick that was traded to Brooklyn that night. Almost three years later, Jefferson in an All-Star in a Spurs jersey – an Austin Spurs jersey. Leading the Austin in total points and rebounds this season, Jefferson will play in the 2017 D-League All-Star Game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday on NBA TV. “I probably thought I was going to San Antonio for a few seconds on draft night before my agent told me I was in a trade,” Jefferson said. “If I could actually be a Spur some day, that would be everything coming full circle and a dream come true.”
“The Spurs organization really uses their development program and people are watching what’s going on every day in the D-League,” Jefferson said. “That’s really encouraging. You know if you keep working, your opportunity will be there. If I don’t get a call-up today, all right, that’s fine. Tomorrow’s a new day.”

Mavs keeping Jalen Brunson?
Bally Sports Southwest: “We can pay him more than anybody…I think he wants to stay and that’s most important.” @mcuban talks to @TheSteinLine about the Mavericks chances of re-signing @jalenbrunson1 this offseason.
Callie Caplan: Jalen Brunson, free-agent to be: “When it happens, it happens. I’m not worried about it right now. Honestly, at this point, how I feel, I’m really happy that I got to play with these guys, and the things that we did this year, that’s all I’m really focused on right now.”

Speaking of Serbian basketball, it was inevitable not to comment on back-to-back Final Four MVP Vasilije Micic and the rumors linking him to the NBA. “Micic can make a difference in the NBA,” Savic tells Eurohoops. “The best players in EuroLeague can stand out there”.

The Warriors went the sustainability path. They used all three lottery picks on three teenagers. Steph Curry watched them do it. He didn’t shake the table. He didn’t turn his nearing free agency into a power play. He signed a five-year max extension, messaging to every teammate that the most powerful voice in the room was accepting of management’s long-term approach and everyone else would need to fall in line. “A lot of stars would’ve said, ‘No, you have to trade all these young assets for a star. I need a star,’” Steve Kerr told The Athletic. “Organizationally, the decision was ‘Let’s grow these young guys so we can have a bright future.’ Very few people in Steph’s shoes would’ve said, ‘All right, I’ll embrace it and let’s go to work.’”
Why didn’t Curry ever make noise or leverage his power to reconfigure the roster to his exact preferences? “That’s not how I operate,” Curry told The Athletic. “There were conversations and different paths to take, and we all had conversations about going different ways. But at the end of the day, I have a lot of trust in Bob, a lot of confidence in what we’re about. There was no panic. Obviously, it helps that we had won a couple championships. It affords patience. But there was no panic in terms of getting me, Klay and Draymond another run at it, figuring out how we could get pieces around us to make it work. It’s just patience at the end of the day.
