Serena Winters: Brett Brown says he believes Joel Embiid will play tonight. Official declaration will happen after he does his pre-game warmups.
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid plans to face the visiting Indiana Pacers on Sunday (3:30 p.m., ABC) after missing the past eight games due to left knee soreness, a team source told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. Embiid hasn't played since the All-Star Game, where he scored 10 points in 23 minutes.
Jon Johnson: Amir Johnson played last night, will play tonight. Can’t imagine Sixers want him playing tomorrow vs IND. Thinking plan is Embiid will return, baring something unforeseen.
Asked whether or not Joel Embiid (left knee soreness) would make the Sixers' trip to Houston on Friday, coach Brett Brown said: "We are still going through that. There has been no decision officially on that. The bottom line is we have come this far in relation to rest after the All Star break -- personally, I am at a stage where if it requires more time, so be it. The end game is obvious: it is trying to deliver him to the playoffs healthy. I do look up from time to time and pay attention to the calendar. It's not like you have an abundance of time." Embiid has been out since the All Star Break.
Joel Embiid said the reason behind his decision to sit out the past several games with left knee soreness -- including Saturday night's nationally televised showdown with the Golden State Warriors -- is that he's focusing on his long-term health. "It's all about long-term preservation and making sure I'm ready not just for the playoffs, but also for the next 15 years," Embiid said before Saturday night's game at Wells Fargo Center. "Knowing the team, what we've been through, and knowing me and I like to push everything, I like to play through anything. We just felt like it was better to preserve. "I didn't feel good, but it's getting better."
Initially reticent to give a specific time frame for his return, Embiid eventually relented and said -- after saying he'd be back "soon" several times -- that he plans to return sometime next week. He also said multiple times that if he had to, he could play now, but that there's little need to push things given Philadelphia's comfortable positioning in the middle of the East standings.
"Right now it's all about preserving, all about the playoffs," he said. "I've said it in the past, but I've matured a lot. I've learned not to fight on stupid stuff. If the team wants me to rest, I'll listen, and if I feel good, I'll play. But if I need some rest, at the end of the day, it's all about being healthy. I understand it. "They've got my back, and I've got theirs ... if I felt like my teammates needed me, the coaches needed me really bad, I would feel compelled to play. But right now, with the knee and with the guys we've added, it's also good to learn how to play without me; I actually think it benefits us, and I am excited to come back and fit in."
Tom Moore: #Sixers coach Brett Brown: ‘There certainly will be some adjustment to absorbing (Embiid) back. I can’t wait to coach him again.’
Serena Winters: Joel Embiid will not play against Golden State. We are still awaiting for an official update from the team. #Sixers
Joel Embiid is experiencing left knee soreness and will undergo treatment involving physical therapy and load management. He had an MRI which revealed no structural damage. As a precaution, he is listed as out and will be re-evaluated in approximately one week.
Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center Joel Embiid will miss at least a week with a sore left knee. Embiid underwent an MRI on Tuesday, which revealed no structural damage, and he will undergo physical therapy until he is evaluated again next week. The 24-year-old Embiid is averaging 27.3 points and 13.5 rebounds in 54 games for the Sixers. He had 10 points and 12 rebounds in 23 minutes in last Sunday's All-Star game.
Jon Johnson: Per team source, Joel Embiid had been experiencing occasional knee soreness prior to all-star break, & had been receiving treatment. Returned from break, had precautionary scan, which was clean. Rest and physical therapy to ensure he’s in best health for stretch run.
Kyle Neubeck: Joel Embiid is not listed on the 5:30 pm injury report tonight. Barring a late change, seems everybody will be full go
Serena Winters: Some encouraging news, Brett Brown does not seem concerned about Joel Embiid’s back, said he’s fine.
Keith Pompey: #Sixers coach Brett Brown expects Butler, Embiid and Chandler to all play tomorrow vs. #Lakers.
Tim Bontemps: Brett Brown says Joel Embiid is still questionable for tonight’s game. Says that if the back issue gets to a point where the team needs to have him sit, they will do so. Says things haven’t gotten to that point yet, though.
Tom Moore: Joel Embiid warming up pregame. Doesn’t seem to be moving especially well. #Sixers pic.twitter.com/Kub0e4d8kY
Serena Winters: Jimmy Butler questionable for tomorrow’s game with a rib contusion. Joel Embiid still listed as questionable with right ankle soreness.
Kyle Neubeck: JJ Redick and Joel Embiid are both questionable for tonight’s game. Embiid has a sore left ankle that was tweaked in the Washington game.
Serena Winters: Lots of #Sixers updates for tonight’s game. Joel Embiid is questionable with left knee soreness. Jimmy Butler is out with an upper respiratory infection. Wilson Chandler is out with an upper respiratory infection.
Derek Bodner: Brett Brown said Joel Embiid was experiencing flu-like symptoms in addition to the migraine. Didn't think he would play until late.
Keith Pompey: #Sixers center Joel Embiid, who missed Sunday’s practice with a migraine headache, was not listed on today’s 5:30 p.m. injury report for Monday’s game vs. #Detroit #Pistons.
Tom Moore: Brett Brown: Landry Shamet (lower back) and Joel Embiid (migraine) are questionable for #Sixers Monday game vs #Pistons
However, Brown is concerned about the hand, just as he's concerned that the big man is playing too many minutes. Embiid averages 34.9 minutes per game, which is tied for 13th in the league with Chicago Bulls small forward Justin Holiday and Los Angeles Clippers small forward Tobias Harris. "It's Joel Embiid," Brown said, "and we all get the importance that represents to our program." At some point, the coach hopes to give him a game off. The Sixers are discussing a time to do that. On Paper, Friday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Wells Fargo Center would be a great time. Cleveland has a league-worst 2-13 record.
Derek Bodner: #Sixers center Joel Embiid (rolled ankle) will go through a pregame workout to determine his availability for tonight's game.
"A lot of guys, when they have nothing to talk [trash] about, and when they know that they're clearly not better than you, they have a tendency to talk about the past, bringing up my injury streak," he says. "I'm really not an injury-prone player. I just had that one injury that took, like, two years."
As a follow up to @howardeskin report - Per source, there is a chance of an alteration, or removal of mask for Joel Embiid in coming days. Nothing definitive at moment, but a possibility.
Kyle Neubeck: Embiid was asked about and refused to use his mask as an excuse for his struggles against Boston. “Everything I’ve been doing in this series, I won’t put that on the mask. That’s on me.”
Embiid felt 'sore' on Friday but said that he felt no discomfort in his face at the site of the orbital bone fracture. "I need about five massages today. It hurts," Embiid said, drawing laughs from reporters. "But it's the NBA. I'm trying to get back in the groove."
Embiid acknowledged that the mask bothered him at times Thursday night. "At the end of the day, no matter how much it bothers me I still got to be a basketball player," he said. "If the shots aren't falling or it gets foggy and I can't see, you know, there's a lot of different stuff I can do."
Ramona Shelburne: The mask Embiid is wearing tonight has protective eyewear built into it! It’s carbon AND poly carbonate. Hence, it’s stronger than a normal mask. Let’s just say this has been a super involved hi-tech project between the Sixers, Embiid’s camp and the independent league doctors.
Ramona Shelburne: The reasons this was such a “process.” It’s the second time Embiid has broken this area of his face. First time was at Kansas. All the doctors involved felt there was significant risk of reinjury. So there’s been a lot of work done in developing this new stronger mask.

Josh Lewenberg: Wow, Justin Champagnie and PJ Washington are both ejected for what looked like a pretty minor scuffle. So the Raptors, who were already without VanVleet, Barnes and Birch, are down another body. Watanabe checks in, and… wait… is that Malachi Flynn’s music?

Chris Haynes: Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis (MCL sprain) will return tonight against the Brooklyn Nets after a month-long absence and will be on a minutes restriction, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @YahooSports.
Boston Celtics: Coach Udoka says of Jayson Tatum building on his 51-point, 10-rebound, 7-assist effort, “The thing we liked about last game was he mixed it up well … Shot it well from the start and got downhill, made the right play whether he was scoring or making passes.”
