Steve Kerr: The same people who are asking me to stick to sports are also asking me to expand my horizons. I guess that’s what I’m hearing. Again, I will speak on the things I’m comfortable with. I will do things I believe are helpful for my country. I love my country, despite what President Trump said yesterday. I work really, really hard on a lot of things off the floor. One of those things is I don’t want people to feel what my family felt when my father was killed. I know what it feels like to have a family member ended by a bullet. So that’s a passionate, passionate subject for me. So I research it, I’m involved with various organizations, I’m constantly meeting with people, fundraising. It’s part of my life.

Dalton Johnson: “The first thing he said to me was, ‘The good thing is, I’m going to be back.'” Steve Kerr talked with Steph Curry last night. Steph’s fear was the injury could have been season ending. The MRI made him very happy
Kerith Burke: Steve Kerr on Steph Curry’s injury; “We’re going to reevaluate a few days. And the good news is he’s going to be back. We don’t exactly know when, but it’s not an injury that’s going to keep him out for the season.” Kerr said he’s viewing this from a “glass half full” perspective.
Kyrie Irving, 30, opted into the final season of his deal in the summer but requested a trade earlier this week after failing to reach an agreement with Brooklyn on an extension. Irving has been seeking in the neighborhood of a four-year, $198.5 million maximum extension available to him until June 30, sources said. He is also eligible to sign a two-year, $78.6 million extension with the Mavericks until June 30.
Chris Mannix: Irving deal won’t impact All-Star. Irving was voted an Eastern Conference starter, but because it’s no longer conference vs. conference, it won’t matter who he plays for when the teams are “drafted.”
Giannis posted video on Sunday of a great interaction he had with a young fan in the tunnel. Giannis saw a sign, challenging him in Rock Paper Scissors for his shoes, and Giannis jumped at the opportunity to take on the young kid. The fan showed paper, and Giannis showed rock. Without hesitation, Antetokounmpo took off his shoes (removed the insoles) and gave them to the kid.

Tim MacMahon: Kyrie Irving extension talks are expected to be put off until this summer. He is eligible for a 2-year extension now and a 4-year deal in the summer. If the Mavs-Kyrie union doesn’t continue, Dallas will have close to max salary cap space this summer.
Marc Stein: Kyrie Irving has no assurances of a subsequent contract from the Mavericks, league sources tell me, but he will be eligible for a two-year extension worth in excess of $80 if he and Dallas look to continue the relationship beyond this season.
