According to the American Chronic Pain Association, neuropathic pain is a chronic condition that occurs when nerves become injured or damaged. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Looney has had the condition for “a couple years, and it’s something that he’s been able to play through. But in this particular case, the condition is affecting his hamstring. “The hamstring is sound. The MRI is clean, but it makes it trickier that it’s a neuropathic issue.”
The Warriors center rotation took another hit Saturday, as Kevon Looney will miss the next two games, and probably more, with further complications with his hamstring. Looney, who did not play in the second half of Thursday’s game against the Clippers due to right hamstring tightness, has been ruled out for the team’s current two-game road trip to Oklahoma City and New Orleans as he deals with a condition that has delayed his recovery. He sat out the entire preseason with a strain to the same hamstring.
The Warriors are officially listing Looney as out for an unspecified amount of time as he searches for answers on how best to treat and manage his neuropathy. “(He’s had it for) a couple of years,” Steve Kerr revealed. “It’s something that he’s been able to play through. But in this particular case, the condition is affecting his hamstring.”
"It's not really his hamstring," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. "It's kind of a neuropathic condition that he's had for a couple years. It's something he's been able to play through, but in this particular case, the condition is affecting his hamstring. His hamstring is sound, the MRI is clean, but it makes it trickier actually that it's a neuropathic condition. That's really all I'm going to say on it because I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to these matters."
Anthony Slater: Kevon Looney is out for this road trip, Warriors announce, but issue sounds more concerning. Team announces he will see some specialists to evaluate a neuropathic condition.
Nick Friedell: Kerr says Kevon Looney will start after missing all of preseason because of a hamstring injury.
Mark Medina: Steve Kerr said Kevon Looney will likely play no more than 20 minutes since he hasn’t played in training camp
Monte Poole: Kevon Looney practiced today and looked fine. He’ll play Thursday and possibly start at center.
Connor Letourneau: Jordan Poole (ankle) will play tomorrow vs. Minnesota. Kevon Looney (hamstring) and Alen Smailagic (ankle) won’t.
Logan Murdock: Good news for the Warriors: Kevon Looney isn’t expected to miss any time with a “minor tweak” in his hamstring, I’m told.
Connor Letourneau: Looney tweaked his hamstring and missed the last part of practice, and Smailagic rolled his ankle. Warriors will have an update later this afternoon.
Connor Letourneau: Kevon Looney, who is dealing with a fracture near his chest, will start at center for the Warriors in Game 6 alongside Iguodala, Green, Thompson and Curry.
Anthony Slater: Kevon Looney will be available for Game 6. Steve Kerr: "He's doing decently. We'll see how he holds up."
Anthony Slater: Kevon Looney going through his typical pregame routine, which would indicate he’s going to try to play tonight. Wouldn’t be surprised if he starts. Cousins has had more success off bench (G2 and 5) in this series.
Anthony Slater: Kevon Looney is questionable for Game 6.
Ramona Shelburne: One bit of good news for the Warriors. Kevon Looney says he’s OK and hopes to play next game. “They were more scared than I was,” he joked.
Greg Logan: Kevon Looney will play again for #Warriors. Came through Game 4 “very well.”
Jordan Schultz: I am told Kevon Looney will be playing through “a lot of pain tonight,” but he is a gamer, esp considering his upcoming FA. #warriors #nbafinals
"The guy's just tough," Kerr said. "He's tough and he wants to play. And the injury is in an area where it allows him to move well enough to give it a shot to play." Kerr did not believe Looney would take a pain-killing injection before the game.
Eric Koreen: Looney is going to play tonight, says Kerr. Further evaluation said there was no long term risk with him playing.
Melissa Rohlin: Kevon Looney IS going to play tonight in Game 4. “He’s dying to play so we’ll give him a shot and see what he’s got.”
Ramona Shelburne: The other day @Tim Bontemps reported there was a chance Kevon Looney plays in the Finals w/ a fracture near his collarbone. Today he’s listed as questionable in the injury report for Game 4. Word is he’s been lobbying hard to play as the doctors believe the injury won’t get worse
Meanwhile, big man Kevon Looney (costal cartilage fracture) might not be done for in this series after all. Thompson’s return was the most foreseeable, given the shooting guard’s durability and stubbornness against missing games. He was straining at Kerr’s and the medical staff’s leash Wednesday, even as he understood their safe-rather-than-sorry approach. “It just sucks missing a Finals game,” Thompson said. “It's the NBA Finals and this is what we work our whole lives for. But I would rather miss one game than an entire series. So, it wasn't the end of the world.”
Jordan Schultz: There is a "chance" that Kevon Looney returns during the Finals, per source. Looney has had second and third opinions on the non-displaced first costal cartilage fracture he suffered in Game 2. There are "no guarantees," but this is certainly a welcome sign for the #Warriors.
Mark Medina: As @Tim Bontemps first reported, Steve Kerr said Warriors are exploring second opinions on outside chance Kevon Looney could return in NBA Finals
Tim Bontemps: After undergoing further evaluation of the non-displaced first costal cartilage fracture he suffered in Game 2, Warriors forward Kevon Looney could potentially return during the NBA Finals, league sources told ESPN. More testing will determine next steps for Looney.
Adrian Wojnarowski: Further detail on Looney injury, per sources: non-displaced first costal cartilage fracture. There could be more evaluation, but there isn't great optimism on a return this season. DeMarcus Cousins' emergence in Game 2 looms even bigger for the Warriors.
Adrian Wojnarowski: Golden State Warriors forward Kevon Looney suffered a fracture in his collar bone and will be out indefinitely in the NBA Finals, league sources tell ESPN. Looney underwent an MRI on Monday.
Connor Letourneau: X-rays on Kevon Looney (chest) came back clean.
Anthony Slater: Andre Iguodala on Kevon Looney this summer: “I hope he gets paid, so I hope he doesn’t come back because I hope he gets all the money.” pic.twitter.com/mZUI2Lm4JH
Connor Letourneau: Kevon Looney is still questionable. He'll be a game-time decision.
Connor Letourneau: Klay Thompson and Kevon Looney are out tonight. Andre Iguodala is good to go.
Anthony Slater: Shaun Livingston, Andre Iguodala, Omri Casspi and Kevon Looney all out tonight. Livingston away for personal reasons. Steve Kerr: "So you're starting at the 2 tonight, @Chris Haynes"
Connor Letourneau: Draymond Green (sprained left index finger) and Kevon Looney (right knee soreness) are questionable for tomorrow's game vs. Portland. Patrick McCaw (sprained left thumb) is doubtful.
Anthony Slater: No Kevon Looney tonight for Warriors' summer league team. "Allergic reaction" to something yesterday.
Connor Letourneau: Kevon Looney, who has been out since April 4 with a strained left hip, is listed as doubtful for Game 3.
Connor Letourneau: Warriors announce officially that Kevon Looney (left hip strain) is out tonight vs. the Jazz.
Paul Garcia: Warriors say Kevon Looney (sprained hip) is out tonight against the Spurs.
Less than five months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum on his left hip, Looney is on track to return for the start of training camp Sept. 27. The preseason will be his audition to crack the rotation. Minutes could be fleeting in a frontcourt that recently added Kevin Durant, David West and Zaza Pachulia to a group that returns Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, Anderson Varejao and James Michael McAdoo. JaVale McGee will compete for the final roster spot, and rookie Damian Jones (torn pectoral muscle) hopes to join the fray before the regular season. “I’m really eager,” Looney said. “I’ve been watching, running and doing drills now for what feels like two years. To be able to get on the court and actually be healthy, I’m really excited for that.”
While many of his teammates rest, Looney, 20, is training twice a day five times a week. He has added 20 pounds of muscle to his 6-foot-9 frame. Looney, who was cleared for contact two weeks ago, played a two-on-two game Thursday, his first since his latest surgery. With a 7-3 wingspan and ball-handling that belies his size, he has a chance to help round out the Warriors’ rotation. Another season spent largely watching from the bench, however, would bring its own benefits. “I have an opportunity to come in, learn from these guys and be on this team where we’re looking to make history,” Looney said. “I don’t think any better situation could’ve happened to me.”
And you mentioned Looney there. We haven’t heard much during the Playoffs since his second surgery. Are you hearing anything on the recovery since his second hip surgery? FORD: I haven’t yet. I know that hip surgery is a tough surgery and that obviously required a second surgery, so obviously there’s long-term issues there. The only thing that I’ve heard out of Golden State is that the surgery was successful and they’re confident that eventually he’s going to come back to full strength. But details, I don’t have any more.
Marc J. Spears: Injured Warriors rookie forward Kevon Looney (hip) won't play in summer league, but will likely be in attendance continuing rehab for camp.
Golden State Warriors forward Kevon Looney underwent a successful left hip arthroscopy this morning to repair a torn labrum, the team announced today. The procedure was performed by renowned Steadman Clinic orthopaedic surgeon and hip specialist Dr. Marc Philippon at the Vail Valley Surgery Center in Vail, Colorado. Looney will begin rehabilitation from the surgery immediately and is expected to be out a minimum of four-to-six months before returning to basketball activity. The rookie forward previously underwent surgery on August 20, 2015, to repair a torn labrum in his right hip.

With Cedi Osman scoring his first 19 points in 19 minutes of action, Turkey after a slow first quarter kept things in check against Georgia for the 101-88 win in the first game of the 31st “Acropolis tournament” in Athens Greece.

Capping a challenging multi-year development process, Sinclair Broadcast Group’s regional sports unit has set September 26 as the nationwide launch date for direct-to-consumer streaming service Bally Sports+.
At $19.99 a month or $189.99 a year, Bally Sports+ will be among the priciest streaming options in the marketplace, but the company expects many diehard sports fans lacking pay-TV subscriptions to pony up to watch their local teams. The 19 Bally networks operated by Sinclair’s Diamond Sports Group subsidiary feature Major League Baseball, NBA and NHL games, along with a range of college and prep sports. The company says additional pricing options will be released once the service is live.
