A day after the MRI on Anthony Davis’ thumb came back showing nothing further than the original diagnosis of a sprain, the All-Star practiced in full on Tuesday and said he hopes to make his Staples Center debut on Wednesday evening. “I kinda knew (it wasn’t serious),” said Davis. “I knew it was just a jam … it felt fine at practice today.”
Davis said the thumb got hit a few times at practice today, but that’s what he wanted, in order to tough it out. The plan is to see how he feels tomorrow prior to the game, and if it continues to feel good, he’ll play. Head coach Frank Vogel said he didn’t see any limitations for Davis in practice, but will wait until Wednesday afternoon to determine if he’ll play against the Warriors. “We’re going to be safe and see how he feels tomorrow,” said Vogel.

Anthony Davis sprained his right thumb in the first half of the Los Angeles Lakers' preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday and will not return, according to the team. Davis suffered the injury swatting at the ball midway through the first quarter. He started at center as the Lakers employed a small-ball lineup while surrounding him with LeBron James, Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley and Danny Green.

Despite Anthony Davis being listed as questionable headed into Wednesday's matchup against the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said the team plans to sit the five-time All-Star center until after Thursday's trade deadline. "He is [available], but we're not going to play him until after the trading deadline," Gentry said. "I think everybody can understand that."
"Obviously, it's on everyone's mind," Gentry said. "But we just try to put it on the backburner, and focus on the task at hand. I think everything kind of clears up [after Davis is traded], at least for a while. And you can go back to I guess whatever our new normal is going to be. It's just part of it. It's part of the business, and you just deal with it like you would anything else."

For a second straight game, New Orleans will face a formidable Northwest Division foe Monday, again without the services of five-time All-Star forward Anthony Davis. Just prior to this morning’s shootaround in Colorado, Davis (right elbow sprain) was officially ruled out of a Western Conference meeting with the Denver Nuggets.
Davis’ status going forward is day-to-day, with New Orleans fourth-year head coach Alvin Gentry saying, “He still has a sore elbow. We’re not going to take any chances six games into the season. When he feels better, we’ll play him.”
“We’ve got to do a little more,” said Jrue Holiday, who indicated that he expects to slide over to point guard in Monday’s game. “Rebounding, (without) his presence on the court, sometimes being a little more physical on the bigs. The guards, we have to crack back and keep those bigs off the boards.”
