The Miami Heat are on the clock with the two-way contract of Chris Silva and for more than the timing of the deal for the rookie forward. With Monday night’s game against the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena, Silva has utilized 34 of the 45 days he can spend in the NBA on his two-way deal. The Heat have been able to maximize that total by holding him out of most practices.
The 76ers have to make a major decision on Norvel Pelle. He’s closing in on the maximum number of days (45) an NBA team is allowed to bring up a player on a two-way contract. The Sixers will either sign him to the regular 15-man roster or part ways with the big man.
The Sixers would have to waive or trade someone from their 15-man roster to create a spot for Pelle. Pelle is the team’s best rim protector, if not one of the NBA’s best. The rookie is averaging 2.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 9.0 minutes in his seven appearances. Pelle made his NBA debut against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 29. The 6-foot-10, 235-pounder finished with three points, two rebounds, one assist and a career-high four blocks in 12 minutes, 33 seconds of action.
The Heat will have enough room under the hard cap to convert Silva’s two-way contract to a standard NBA contract starting Jan. 14, and Silva has enough two-way days available to play in every one of Miami’s games before then. The Heat has an open roster spot with just 14 players currently under standard deals. If Silva has his two-way deal converted to a standard NBA contract, that will be another memorable day. But Friday stands alone. “Today has been crazy,” Silva said. “From seeing my mom and catching a good win, all that, it’s crazy. I’m shook.”

The Warriors will be sellers between now and the trade deadline. I outline all of that here. The gist: Expect them to make a minor move (or two) in an effort to convert Ky Bowman’s two-way contract to a standard roster spot.
The Oklahoma City Thunder has signed forward Kevin Hervey to a Two-Way Contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti.
The Los Angeles Lakers have signed forward Devontae Cacok to a two-way contract, it was announced today. In a related move, the team has waived guard Zach Norvell Jr.
Shams Charania: The Lakers are waiving guard Zach Norvell Jr. and signing forward Devontae Cacok to a two-way contract, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
As a two-way-contract player, Bowman is almost halfway through his allotted 45 days with Golden State. If the Warriors can’t find a way to convert his deal to a 15-man roster spot, Bowman would have to spend the rest of the season with the Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.
An undrafted free agent, Bowman and his agent had been in contact with several teams, including Golden State, New Orleans and Detroit. After spurning a promising football career for a shot to play basketball for a living, he sought a guaranteed contract. They told teams Bowman would not sign a two-way deal. “That was one of my components when I was going into the draft,” Bowman said. “I wasn’t going to sign a two-way contract.”
The Orlando Magic have signed forward Amile Jefferson, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced today.
The New York Knicks announced today that the team has signed forward Ivan Rabb to a Two-Way contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Jonathan Feigen: As mentioned on Friday, Frazier impressed the Rockets with his work in the off-season program and was expected to compete for a roster spot. Injury on first days of camp prevented that. They had G League rights, but did not want another team to get him on NBA roster with 2-way.
Jonathan Feigen: Chris Clemons will also be converted to a two-way contract, person with knowledge of that and the Frazier move said. That will move the Rockets to the maximum of 15 roster players.
Rick Bonnell: Hornets move Kobi Simmons into the open two-way contract slot, so roster — 15 regular spots, plus two two-ways — is complete for now.
Tony Jones: The Jazz have waived Isaac Haas and Mike Scott. Both will play for the SLC Stars. Utah still has to trim its roster by one to get down to 15. Jarrell Brantley and Justin Wright-Foreman will be two-way players
Charlotte Hornets President of Basketball Operations & General Manager Mitch Kupchak announced today that the team has converted the contract of forward Jalen McDaniels to a two-way contract. The Hornets selected McDaniels with the 52nd overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. McDaniels, a 6-10 forward from San Diego State, earned All-Mountain West Second Team in 2018-19 and All-Mountain West Third Team in 2017-18 as a freshman.

Albert Nahmad: BOS will sign Two-Way SG Max Strus to a 2-year, $2.5M min deal with nearly 1/2 his $898K 1st-year salary guaranteed. Get this symmetry: Max payout on a Two-Way? $411K. If that’s his guarantee, he’d out-earn it on 1/10, the exact day his and all NBA contracts get fully guaranteed.
Mark Murphy: Strus clarifies his two-year deal. "A lot of people think I got the (last) roster spot, but that's not exactly what happened. U have to keep working hard and then we'll see."
Bobby Marks: Converting the Max Strus Two-Way to a standard contract now opens up Boston to having a 2W spot available. A player on an Exhibit 10 contract like Tacko Fall must be converted to a 2W by next Monday.

Albert Nahmad: Bol Bol is expected to accept a two-way contract from DEN (~$410K max payout). But if he doesn’t, DEN would need to issue him a Required Tender (a 1-year, $898K non-guaranteed contract offer) by 9/5 to keep him RFA, which he could accept through 10/15.

There is a growing belief among rival teams that Durant knew when he issued that me-or-them ultimatum that Tsai had no intention of yielding to the request and firing Marks and Nash. One resultant theory that the Durant/Tsai meeting spawned is the idea KD has begun trying to manufacture as much behind-the-scenes discord as he can in hopes that it will lead the Nets to lower their asking price and trade him out of exasperation.
Appearing on The Scoop podcast with Darren Wolfson of SKOR North and 5 Eyewitness News, Glen Taylor said new Wolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly had his eye on multiple impact trade targets, but Gobert was his “number one option.” The input of head coach Chris Finch, who expressed confidence in his ability to use Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, was also a key factor in Minnesota’s decision to pull the trigger on the blockbuster deal. “What I did when Tim and Chris talked to me about this trade is to ask (Finch) is there a system that he knows how to utilize these players,” Taylor said. “And he was very confident that he did understand how to utilize their skill sets, being two big guys. We talked about a lot, so he convinced me that this is something that is going to take us to a winning situation, and gave us the go-ahead to make the trade.”
Asked if he’d like to see D’Angelo Russell sign an extension before the season begins, Taylor said it might benefit both sides to hold off and see how the 2022/23 season goes. “(Finch) believes that with the new lineup, and with Russell in that lineup, that he’ll have a much better year just because of the way we’re going to play,” Taylor said. “He says he thinks there’s a big upside for Russell with this group of (players). That’s to his advantage and to our advantage if it works out.”
The plan remains for Taylor to hand over control of the franchise to incoming owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez in a little over a year. The Wolves’ longtime owner said he’s not having any regrets about giving up control of the team as it becomes a more legitimate contender. “No, I don’t have any second thoughts. I think it’s the right thing to do,” Taylor said. “We’ve left some options open that I’ll continue to be involved if I want to be involved, and that suits me just fine.”
“My favorite NBA player to watch besides Steph is Luka,” Green said on the latest edition of his eponymous podcast. “Luka different. I mean, the way he sees the floor, scores the basketball, gets to his spot, his pace. It’s Luka for sure.”
