The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Tim Frazier. Frazier, 28, played 47 games (17 starts) this season for the New Orleans Pelicans and averaged 5.0 points, 4.4 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 19.3 minutes per game. He was waived by the Pelicans on Feb. 28.
The Milwaukee Bucks need help at the guard position. Malcolm Brogdon, Donte DiVincenzo and Sterling Brown are all out with injuries and George Hill is still only playing limited minutes as he works back from a strained left adductor muscle. With that in mind, the Bucks made a difficult decision Monday, opting to waive forward Christian Wood to clear a roster spot to sign point guard Tim Frazier. Wood initially beat out Frazier for a spot in training camp, but with multiple forwards ahead of Wood in the lineup and a depleted corps of guards, the team had to make a move to balance its roster ahead of the playoffs.
Frazier, a 6-1 guard, has bounced between four NBA teams in his five seasons, most recently playing with the New Orleans Pelicans after getting cut by the Bucks in camp. He averaged 5.0 points and 4.4 assists while shooting 35.1 percent on three-pointers in 47 games with the Pelicans before being waived at the end of February so New Orleans could sign Dairis Bertans. During the preseason, Frazier was one of the better performers among the Bucks' roster hopefuls. His best game came in Oklahoma City, where he scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including making 4 of 5 three-pointers. He led a frenzied comeback, connecting on a 29-foot three-pointer with 0.9 of a second left to send the game to overtime.
