Colangelo is still powerful in the NBA as the director of USA basketball and chairman of the Basketball Hall of Fame. On Friday, he endorsed two Team USA coaches — Jeff Van Gundy and Tom Thibodeau — for the Knicks job. “Those are great basketball guys. They’re terrific coaches. Brad Townsend: Carlisle says “we’ve got to win ourselves out of the play-in; that hasn’t officially happened yet. A lot of people are making assumptions. I like our position . . but we’ve got to bring it to the finish line.” Says Portland/Lakers “probably are unlikely to lose.”
Alex Schiffer: Steve Nash said he hopes James Harden is able to play in one of the Nets final three regular season games, but there are a lot of factors in play as to if that happens.
Malika Andrews: Steve Nash says Bruce Brown broke his nose in a collision in practice. He will wear a mask tonight in Chicago and then be fitted for a more “proper” mask when the Nets return to Brooklyn.
Rob Schaefer: No Troy Brown Jr. tonight vs. Nets, Billy Donovan says. Had been questionable with sprained ankle — and is getting closer — but needs more practice time (last played April 19). Daniel Theis (hip) is on track to return. Just has to warm up to be sure.
