Bobby Marks: Creative use of the stretch provision by the Celtics on the contract of Demetrius Jackson. Boston exercised the 2019-20 non-guaranteed team option on Jackson one day prior to waiving the former second round pick. Exercising the option allowed Boston to stretch the contract over seven years and not five. The cap hit per year is $92,857 instead of $130,000.
Adam Himmelsbach: If Demetrius Jackson is not claimed on waivers, the Celtics will likely stretch his $650k guarantee over three years, source says.
Steve Bulpett: Celtics to waive Demetrius Jackson, avoid paying his $650,000 guarantee. His initial indication is he'll likely not play in SL game tonight.
Boston would now need a series of transactions to create cap space for Gordon Hayward. The Celtics would have to pull the qualifying offer on Kelly Olynyk, renounce free agents Jonas Jerebko, James Young, Gerald Green and waive the contracts of Jordan Mickey and Demetrius Jackson (or trade).
