The Timberwolves are in talks with Oklahoma City to bring Ricky Rubio back to where it all began. The talks center around the 17th overall pick going to Oklahoma City in return for Rubio and pick Nos. 25 and 28, sources tell The Athletic. There could be other moving parts included in the deal, but it will give coach Ryan Saunders another ballhandler to pair with D’Angelo Russell in the backcourt.
As soon as Rubio was traded to the Thunder, the Timberwolves set their sights on bringing the popular Spaniard back, sources said. The Wolves were interested in signing Rubio when he was a free agent last summer, but Rubio signed a three-year deal with Phoenix instead.
Dane Moore: Ricky Rubio and Ryan Saunders are *tight*. Everyone in Minnesota loves Ricky Rubio. And, oh yeah, Ricky Rubio can PLAY. LET'S GO.
Darren Wolfson: While D'Angelo Russell is clear-cut Plan A for the #Twolves at PG, Plan B was said to be Ricky Rubio. Wolves were preparing one heck of a recruiting video for him, for one. But they were led to believe early in the process that he was off to somewhere else. Sounds like Indiana.
Maybe Jeff Schwartz will think it's nice to have a relationship with certain NBA teams when it comes time to find a home for Ricky Rubio. Up until the last couple days, Rubio, the 26-year-old Minnesota point guard, has been repped by Fegan. His unavailability has sent Rubio across the street to Schwartz, and while I'm not at all predicting this makes for some automatic pipeline of Rubio to Dallas, it is worth adding another log to the fire of what the Mavs want to do at point guard here. The other logs? *The Timberwolves have been dangling Rubio in trade for 18 months. *Their Draft Night plans -- draft another point guard in addition to the kid Kris Dunn? -- might put Rubio on the market at an even cheaper price.

Michael Grange: Some pre-free agency Raptors intel: While DeAndre Ayton has been linked to Raps by a few outlets, my understanding is there have been no talks re: Toronto landing the Suns centre, which would be difficult in any case due to base year compensation issues in the required S&T. 1/
A name to watch could be Kings wing Donte DiVincenzo, now a UFA after Sac didn’t make him QO. Raps had interest in Bucks wing Pat Connaughton’s until he picked up option on his deal. DiVincenzo would meet a lot of the same criteria, is younger, and a better play maker. With the Spurs in tank mode, you wonder if Toronto will try to find a way to deal for Jakob Poeltl. Raptors have tried to reacquire their former draftee multiple times, but never gaining any traction. Perhaps circumstances favour a deal now? It’s got to be killing Raps that OKC’s Lu Dort became an RFA while training under Nick Nurse at OVO Centre w/ Canada Basketball. Not that Raps could realistically sign the elite defender — even if they offered the full MLE, OKC would obviously match. Nice to dream tho. /4.
Victor Oladipo is set to hit free agency, and rumors suggest he’s not going to return to the Miami Heat. On Thursday morning just hours ahead of the beginning of free agency, Oladipo took to Twitter with some cryptic tweets. “What you seek is seeking you”. “How quickly they forget. But soon they will remember”.
Mike Vorkunov: Victor Wembanyama has signed with Metropolitans 92 in Paris, a source confirmed. @Jonathan Givony reported it first. Wembanyama the projected No. 1 pick in 2023 NBA draft. He’ll play for Vincent Collet, who coaches French National Team. He also coached Frank Ntilikina at Strasbourg.
