Mike Singer on Will Barton: He's been in Miami for week…

More on Will Barton Injury

Nuggets swingman Will Barton (knee) is unlikely to return during the Western Conference Finals series against the Lakers, sources said. Barton, who has not played during the NBA’s restarted season, is continuing to rehabilitate a knee injury.
Ohm Youngmisuk: Michael Malone says Will Barton is "working his butt off" in Miami with trainers but no update on when he might be able to possibly return to bubble. "I would love to get him back, even if he is not able to play, I would love Will to be here and be a part of this."
Michael Singer: For what it’s worth, I’ve asked about Will Barton’s status and was told there’s no update on him. He remains out with his right knee issue. Not saying a return isn’t possible, but I haven’t heard any indication it’s imminent.
Kendra Andrews: Nuggets injury report for tomorrow’s game against the Lakers: - Gary Harris (hip) OUT - Will Barton (knee) OUT.
Jamie Hudson: Nuggets Injury Report vs. Blazers today: Troy Daniels (right hip; tightness) and Jamal Murray (left hamstring; tightness) are questionable. Will Barton (right knee; soreness), Gary Harris (right hip; muscle strain) and Paul Millsap (rest) are out.
Nuggets small forward Will Barton has been dealing with right knee soreness and won’t play in Wednesday’s opening scrimmage against the Wizards out of precaution, according to a league source. Barton’s only been able to go through parts of practice since the Nuggets arrived in Orlando over two weeks ago.
Harrison Wind: Will Barton (right knee inflammation) is listed as ‘Out’ tonight against the Suns. So are Michael Porter Jr. and Mason Plumlee. Jerami Grant, Paul Millsap and new acquisition Jordan McRae are all expected to play.
Chris Dempsey: Will Barton is expected to play tonight, #Nuggets coach Michael Malone said.
Harrison Wind: Nuggets are listing Will Barton (left adductor tightness) as questionable for tomorrow's matchup with Memphis. Expect Denver to be very cautious with its starting small forward after Barton missed nearly three months after surgery to repair core/hip muscle last season.
Harrison Wind: Will Barton is available to play tonight vs. the Heat, Nuggets announce. Big boost for Denver’s offense.
Harrison Wind: There’s a chance Will Barton plays tonight, Michael Malone says pregame. Malone didn’t want to go as far as to say he’s ‘probable’ but it seems like Barton is moving in that direction.
Harrison Wind: Will Barton will miss his second straight game with left toe inflammation tonight in Orlando, Nuggets just announced. If Michael Malone keeps his same rotation, expect Torrey Craig to start and Michael Porter Jr. to get the majority of minutes at backup small forward.
A slow start to camp had no bearing on Barton’s jovial mood. Barton has been limited by a nagging hamstring injury he sustained during the team’s open gyms in September. He claimed it was nothing serious and that he just “strained it a bit.” But he acknowledged the setback has been frustrating. “Definitely a little deflating, coming off an injury-plagued season last year,” Barton said. “The good thing is I feel good when I’m out there, I’m real confident, I’m not really holding back very much. Doing the things I like to do. Got a good rhythm, so not too depressed, but it is a little deflating because I don’t want to hold back, I want to be able to practice fully and play fully and do everything.”
Katy Winge: Today was the most Will Barton has practiced in the three days of training camp so far. Dealing with lower extremity injuries. He participated in some contact drills, got into 5 on 5 play. He looked good too, knocking down shots, taking it to the bucket.
Harrison Wind: Will Barton hasn’t been a full participant at training camp yet. He’s dealing with an injury that’s unrelated to last year’s hip/groin but hasn’t been doing full contact drills. Michael Malone said Torrey Craig/Juancho Hernangomez have been getting runs with the first unit.
Duvalier Johnson: Good and bad news. Will Barton is in tonight after missing since the second game of the season. Gary Harris and Trey Lyles however are out against the Suns. #Nuggets
Michael Singer: Will Barton has been upgraded to questionable for tomorrow’s game vs. Phoenix. He’s been targeting Saturday for his return after undergoing hip/core muscle surgery on Oct. 23. He hasn’t played since getting injured against Suns in second game of the season.
Harrison Wind: Nuggets update on Will Barton, who’s six weeks removed from surgery: “Will Barton continues to progress through his rehabilitation program following his right hip and core muscle surgery. He will be evaluated on a week to week basis going forward.”
Harrison Wind: Will Barton underwent surgery on Oct 23. He was slated for a re-evaluation six weeks from then, which would be sometime next week. Michael Malone said he’s progressing well: “Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we’ll try to reintegrate Will Barton back into the lineup."
Nick Kosmider: Will Barton’s rehab from core muscle surgery last month continues to progress. He’s doing some full-court running with some ballhandling work ahead of tonight’s game against the Bucks here in Milwaukee. Still a couple weeks away from a reevaluation of his status.
Nick Kosmider: Will Barton was great while meeting the media today, as he always is. Says rehab from core muscle surgery going well, but there’s set time for his return. “I wish it was tomorrow, but we’ll see.” Has stayed engaged with teammates. “I need it. I don’t like being alone.”
Harrison Wind: Will Barton here at Nuggets shootaround walking around under his own power. Seems to be in good spirits. Nuggets said he’d be re-evaluated in six weeks after last Tuesday’s surgery.
Harrison Wind: As expected, Will Barton (right hip/core strain) will miss the Nuggets’ matchup Tuesday vs. Kings. I’d expect Torrey Craig to continue to start at small forward.
Denver Nuggets swingman Will Barton underwent an MRI exam Sunday that revealed a groin strain, league sources told Yahoo Sports. ‪His recovery timetable is still being determined.‬
Michael Singer: Mike Malone said team thinks Will Barton avoided anything season ending, but he’ll be out for “foreseeable future.”
Shams Charania: Sources on @TheAthleticNBA @watchstadium: Denver starter Will Barton has suffered a strained groin and his timetable for return is unclear. Barton underwent MRI today after being carted off floor in Saturday's win over Phoenix.
TJ McBride: Barton (foot) and Nelson (calf) are both OUT according to Malone. Murray will start at point guard with Mudiay backing him up.
TJ McBride: Barton got a MRI on his ankle today. Results are not back yet but he was expected to play yesterday and did not. DEN in wait and see mode.
Chris Haynes: Denver Nuggets guard Will Barton (ankle) returning tonight against Houston Rockets, league source tells ESPN. He missed 12 of last 15 games.
Barton’s return is contingent on one thing, he said: Full health. “I’m just not me yet,” Barton said. “I don’t want to come back until I’m me. There’s a difference between playing injured and sore, and hurt and injured. I played through being sore and being hurt last year. Played all 82 games. There was times where I was hurt, but I played. But this is an injury. I’m going to take my time until I feel like me.”
Barton was immediately taken back to the locker room for X-rays, which came back negative. He tried to walk by himself but ultimately had to be helped back. He’s day to day. “It’s just sore, a bad sprain, a real bad sprain,” Barton said. “My foot stepped on one of the big guys’ feet from Toronto and just turned as soon as I touched it.”
