Bobby Marks: The New York Knicks are signing Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to a one-year contract, a source tells ESPN. Kidd-Gilchrist gives New York someone who can guard multiple positions. He was one of the better defensive players that was still on the free agent board.
According to sources, the Knicks also view the player known as “MKG” as a solid locker room guy. However, Kidd-Gilchrist wouldn’t address the Knicks desire to improve their outside shooting.
The Mavericks signed Kidd-Gilchrist in February, but he didn’t make enough of an impact in the Orlando bubble, and sources say Dallas is leaning towards letting him walk.
Rick Bonnell: Mavericks make @Michael Kidd-Gilchrist signing official. Hope this reignites his career. He believes he has plenty of NBA basketball left.
Adrian Wojnarowski: Reporting with @Tim MacMahon: Charlotte is finalizing a contract buyout with F Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Dallas has emerged as a possible destination once MKG clears waivers.
Bobby Marks: Would be a perfect fit for Dallas. Thought maybe the Mavericks might swap out Courtney Lee and a future 2 at the deadline. Instead they could get him for nothing. Dallas would need to waive a player if MKG comes on board.
Shams Charania: Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has opted into his $13M player option for the 2019-20 season, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
Rick Bonnell: MKG said he hasn't thought about the player option for next season in his contract. But it's interesting he said "happiness" is his top priority going forward, not "money." He has a $13 million guarantee for 2019-20 if he doesn't opt out.
Rod Boone: MKG said he hasn't thought about exercising his player option for next season. Said he has a son on the way and he's been mostly thinking about that.
Does Kidd-Gilchrist, who has a $13 million player option for next season, see this as a reflection on his future in Charlotte? “I don’t know,” Kidd-Gilchrist said. “I have a lot of love for Charlotte, for the fans, for this team and my teammates. I did all (Borrego has) asked and I did all I expect out of myself. “Hey, I don’t know (about what’s next). But I can only control what I control ... I’ve been here a long time, grown from a boy to a man. It’s never fun not playing, but I just don’t know.”

Ira Winderman: Erik Spoelstra on Tyler Herro (neck spasms), “He’s making good progress. The last 48 hours have been really good for him. So we just want him to continue to trend in this direction. He’s getting better. He’s getting close.”
