More on Cody Zeller Injury

The Charlotte Hornets announced today that center Cody Zeller underwent successful surgery on the fourth metacarpal of his left hand. The surgery was performed by Dr. Michelle Carlson of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
Zeller suffered the fractured left hand in the fourth quarter of Charlotte’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Dec. 23. Zeller will be listed as out and will be reevaluated in four weeks.
Charlotte Hornets center Cody Zeller suffered a fractured left hand in Wednesday night's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team said. He was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game, but it is too soon to tell how much time Zeller will miss, a source told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. "Cody is obviously going to miss some time and we need other guys to step up," Hornets coach James Boorego said.
Rick Bonnell: Cody Zeller said no indication he'd need surgery on the knee that kept him out of the last dozen or so games. He said the swelling is down.
Rod Boone: Cody Zeller putting up shots. He's out for 11th straight game. He said Malik inspired him to go with the headband look. Asked James Borrego if they're shutting Zeller down. "We're not there yet," he said. "... At some point we may have to make that call but we are not there yet."

Rick Bonnell: Cody Zeller is out for the Hornets; 5th in a row with left knee soreness and swelling. No indication when (or if) this season that MKG will be back from his concussion.
Rick Bonnell: Cody Zeller again listed as doubtful (left knee soreness) for Tuesday home game against the 76ers. If he misses this one, that would be four in a row. Might this end up like last season, when Zeller was shut down last several weeks?
Rick Bonnell: The @Charlotte Hornets list center Cody Zeller as doubtful to play Sunday in Miami against the Heat. He has missed the last 2 games with a sore knee. Getting back Zeller would be big in a game of such consequence to Hornets’ slim margin for error to reach playoffs.
Rod Boone: Cody Zeller is out tonight vs. Wizards, James Borrego said. MKG looked good in early pregame warmups and will play.
Rod Boone: James Borrego on Cody Zeller: "He's day-to-day right now. He's progressing the right way, just not enough to go tonight. So hopefully by Sunday (in Miami)., we'll have him back. That's not a guarantee, but I think he's making progress over the last few days."
Rod Boone: Tony Parker (rest) is also out for #Hornets tonight. So to recap: No Parker, MKG (left knee strain), Cody Zeller (left knee soreness) or Marvin Williams (illness) vs. Rockets.
Rod Boone: There's a possibility Cody Zeller will be able to return before the All-Star break, James Borrego said. Cody was out a little while ago going through some drills. Definitely appears to be near to getting back into the lineup.
Rick Bonnell: @Charlotte Hornets coach James Borrego says center Cody Zeller is “close” to being cleared to play. So far this season, Borrego has been reluctant to speculate on injuries, so that sounds promising for Zeller, recovering from a broken hand.
Rod Boone: James Borrego said Cody Zeller is "about a week away" from returning. Said he's close and when he comes back it will make #Hornets a deeper team.

Rod Boone: Cody Zeller spoke today for the first time since fracturing his right hand and undergoing surgery earlier this month. Unclear how much longer he'll be out. Just started oncourt activities yesterday. Asked him how injury happened and his thoughts on #Hornets struggles without him:
Rod Boone: James Borrego said Cody is going to be out for a while. Not quite sure how long Jeremy will be out due to tricky nature of hamstring injuries. FWIW, just saw Lamb leaving locker room and he wasn't walking overly gingerly. But walking on a hammy and running are 2 different things.
Rod Boone: Final: #Hornets 125, Magic 100: Biggest thing now will be how long Jeremy Lamb and Cody Zeller are out. With a lengthy 6-game West Coast trip on tap after Wednesday's home game vs. Mavs, it's not exactly the most ideal time.
Charlotte Hornets center Cody Zeller sustained a fracture in his right hand during Monday's game against the Orlando Magic, the team announced. Zeller exited to the locker room in the 3rd quarter and had X-rays that showed the injury.
Rod Boone: So that's a hamstring injury for Jeremy Lamb and a fractured right hand for Cody Zeller. #Hornets head into the new year banged up and down two starters. Not exactly a Happy New Year's eve.
Rick Bonnell: Frank Kaminsky starts the second half for Hornets at center. Cody Zeller has a rib contusion, suffered in the first half.
Center Cody Zeller’s season is over, as the Charlotte Hornets scrambled for bodies Sunday in a home game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Zeller had missed the previous 11 games with soreness and swelling in his left knee.
Sunday morning, Clifford said it seems pointless to try to have Zeller play with five games left and the team eliminated from playoff contention. “I would say we’re at the stage now where it almost becomes, ‘Why?’” ask him to play, Clifford said. “It’s so hard to not play for long stretches off the season. Why, with five games left, would we even play him? It makes more sense to me to let him get back to 100 percent and then just start again next (season).”
Rick Bonnell: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hamstring) and Cody Zeller (knee) both out versus Celtics. Dwight Howard (rib) will play; he’s only Hornet to play every game this season.
The Charlotte Hornets announced today that Cody Zeller will undergo arthroscopic surgery tomorrow to address a torn medial meniscus in his left knee. Zeller sustained the injury in the third quarter of the Hornets game against Golden State on Dec. 6. Further updates on his status and a timetable for his return will be provided when available.
Backup center Cody Zeller, who has missed the last four games with a bruised right knee, plans to play Sunday at home against the Orlando Magic. The Hornets list Zeller as probable, after he fully participated in practice.
Rick Bonnell: Cody Zeller OUT again with a quad contusion. The @Charlotte Hornets are 1-8 when he doesn't play this season.
It doesn’t sound like Charlotte Hornets center Cody Zeller will be available to play anytime soon. Zeller has been held out of contact drills this preseason while he receives treatment for a bone bruise along his right knee. Wednesday he was held out of the entire practice. "He’s not even doing the non-contact stuff at this stage, so he has a long way to go," said Hornets coach Steve Clifford.
Charlotte Hornets center Cody Zeller had to miss scrimmaging against Team USA this week in Las Vegas due to a sore right knee. An NBA source confirmed Zeller had some soreness that caused him to cancel his participation with the USA Select Team. The injury is not considered serious.

Kevin Love unlikely to return before All-Star break

Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love is on this quick two-game trip with his teammates so he can continue to rehab a high-grade strained right calf, but the five-time All-Star is “unlikely” to return until after the NBA All-Star break, league sources tell cleveland.com.

Kevin Durant to still serve as All-Star captain

The Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant will still serve as an NBA All-Star Game captain despite a hamstring injury that will keep him from playing. Durant and fellow All-Star Game captain LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will each draft a roster out of the pool of selected All-Stars. The All-Star draft will air on TNT on March 4. It remained unclear whether Durant will travel to Atlanta for the game on March 7.
A Knicks official said Rivers was at the Garden, but in the back getting treatment for a sore ankle. Rivers was not listed on the pregame injury report submitted to the NBA. On the box score, Rivers was listed with a DNP-Coach’s Decision. Earlier this week, Rivers said of his situation: “I can’t control if I’m traded today, tomorrow or the next day. What I can control is how I am as a player.’’

That doesn’t mean he’s a finished product. There’s a reason the Raptors signed him with G League intentions and not for the NBA roster. The 10-day contract (about $82,000) affords them six games to see how he can fit and progress in their environment. It’s an audition by another name, and not the first time the Raptors have used a 10-day to get a 905 look at a prospect. “This gives us a chance to get Donta down in our system, teach him our ins and outs and the way we operate our offence, our defence, our schemes, and see how he looks running those,” general manager Chad Sanders said. “With Tampa just down the street, it’s a chance for us to get him out there and get some reps and get a chance to evaluate him for the big club.”
Among active superstars, Doncic’s game might be most similar to that of perennial MVP candidate James Harden, who acknowledged Saturday night that he considers those comparisons legitimate. “There are some similarities,” Harden said after the Mavs’ 115-98 road win snapped the Brooklyn Nets’ eight-game winning streak. “He never lets anyone speed him up, and he gets what he wants. That’s rare for a guy at a young age. I think he’s 21 years old. And to be able to dictate the game and control the game like he does, we all know he has a very, very bright future. “The Mavs got a special one.”
