JD Shaw: Pistons’ Killian Hayes (right hip subluxation) will miss at least eight weeks of action, the team says. He’ll be treated with rest and rehabilitation.
Omari Sanfoka II: Troy Weaver on Killian Hayes' injury: "It’s a gut punch for the kid, because he wants to be successful like any other rookie and now that progress has to be slowed down and he has to make sure he takes care of his business and his injury."
Rod Beard: Non-democracy tweet: #Pistons coach Dwane Casey says there's no timetable on Killian Hayes' return from his hip injury.
Detroit Pistons rookie point guard Killian Hayes could miss 4-6 weeks with a torn right labrum, if he doesn't have surgery, sources told Yahoo Sports. Hayes suffered the injury Monday night in the Pistons' loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Surgery is an option, sources say, and if Hayes does have surgery he could miss the rest of the season. Fortunately, there's no apparent structural or vascular damage, and doctors believe he'll fully recover with rehab. The Pistons are sending Hayes to a specialist to determine the next option.
Shams Charania: Detroit Pistons rookie Killian Hayes has suffered a labral tear in his hip, sources tell @The Athletic @Stadium. Hayes, the No. 7 pick in the NBA Draft, sustained the injury on a drive to the basket in Milwaukee on Monday.
The injuries seem to be coming in spurts, with the Pistons losing rookie Killian Hayes to an apparent hip injury during Monday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks. In the third quarter, Hayes was running to contest a fast-break layup and after planting his right leg awkwardly, he crumpled to the floor and immediately grabbed at his right hip and thigh area.
Hayes stayed on the court for a few minutes and was attended to by the team medical staff. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game. "He's going to have an MRI (Tuesday) and we'll find out more," coach Dwane Casey said. "(The medical staff) thought it was a hip flexor but they weren't sure, so they're going to see."
The hope as an organization is that these early struggles would eventually translate to more steady performances in the second half of the season. Even then, you’re not expecting an All-Star talent to emerge all of a sudden, but you do want to see strides, a comfortability that can only be developed through more bumps and bruises. Whether it’s weeks or months until Hayes returns — it very well could just be days — he’ll return searching for that solace on the court that could have been discovered during the time missed from injury. Hayes’ understanding of what he can and can’t do might have been more fleshed out. Any serious time missed could delay his rookie year timeline.
Rod Beard: #Pistons Blake Griffin (concussion protocol) is OUT tonight vs. #Celtics. Killian Hayes (sprained ankle) is questionable and Jahllil Okafor (ankle) is probable. #DFS

Zach LaVine an option for Mavericks?

Sources nonetheless maintain that one option already being weighed by team brass is the prospect of joining the sign-and-trade bidding for the Chicago Bulls’ Zach LaVine, amid a growing belief around the league that LaVine, as he heads into free agency, has more interest in leaving Chicago than initially presumed. Atlanta, Portland and San Antonio — all of whom possess either the cap space or the trade pieces to more readily chase him — have already been mentioned as likely LaVine suitors.
The word choice there does not appear to be accidental. Sources with knowledge of the Mavericks’ thinking say that the team, for all of Dončić’s individual brilliance, remains intent on finding at least one more All-Star-caliber player to complement him, fearful that it would be too difficult to win another championship without one.
Rudy Robert unlikely target for Mavericks

Despite long-running speculation that the Mavericks hope to trade for Rudy Gobert, I’m told that an all-out pursuit of Utah’s All-Star center and defensive anchor is unlikely.
The Mavericks, again, know they must address their shortcomings on the front line, but sources indicate that their oft-reported interest in Gobert is somewhat overstated because of Gobert’s offensive limitations and the offensive success they just had in the playoffs with a 5-out style that left the paint uncluttered.

Sources say Dallas remains hopeful of making a significant upgrade at the first opportunity, after acknowledging with its midseason exile of Porziņģis to Washington that its first attempt to secure a starry sidekick for Dončić was a misfire.
Callie Caplan: Luka Doncic’s exit interview: On personnel decisions: “I’m involved. Two-way conversations with me, Nico, Fin and J.” On Jalen Brunson’s free agency: “He’s going to deserve all the money he gets.” Favorite moment this season? “I don’t know.” — until he was reminded of Game 7.

The pick that seems even more certain to be on the move is Portland’s at No. 7, with sources saying the Blazers will push to immediately put a competitive team around Damian Lillard rather than start over. Detroit’s Jerami Grant has been the hot name here, but the Blazers could look at other options.
