NetsDaily: Lots of rumors out of Europe this morning that Mike James, 6’1” PG who last played for CSKA Moscow, is signing with Nets but Andrey Kartashov of TASS, the Russian news agency, reports “no decision,” that James was “offered” to Nets. James, 30, also played for Suns and Pelicans.
Reigning EuroLeague scoring champion Mike James has emerged as a candidate to sign with the Brooklyn Nets, Eurohoops has learned via a source. James was suspended indefinitely by CSKA Moscow in late March following an incident with team head coach Dimitris Itoudis and has headed back to his native United States. UPDATE: He will join the Nets, according to Chema de Lucas.
With an open roster spot after John Henson’s contract expired Thursday at midnight, the Knicks are leaning toward making a backcourt addition instead of another big man, according to league sources. One point guard on their radar is longtime European standout Mike James, who has played the last two seasons for CSKA Moscow, shooting over 40 percent from 3-point range.
CSKA Moscow penned Mike James to a one-year contract, the Russian club announced on Monday. Eurohoops previously reported on the deal between the EuroLeague champions and the 28-year-old American guard. “I am excited to join a team with winning expectations and winning mentality” James said upon signing and added: “I am honored that coach Dimitris Itoudis chose me and let come and join a team that won the EuroLeague last year, and I am ready to help the team win in any way possible.”
American guard Mike James and AX Armani Exchange Milano agreed on a 2+1 deal which is expected to be official soon, according to Eurohoops sources. [...] The deal between the two sides was rumored for a long time, but just a few hours ago things were finalized.
Panathinaikos announced the return of Mike James. The American guard has played with the Greens last season before signing in the NBA with the Suns.
James is expected to officially join Panathinaikos, as club owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos had previously stated. In four games with the Pelicans, he totaled four points and six assists in 18 minutes.
David Pick: Source: Mike James has requested to be waived by New Orleans to return to Panathinaikos on a deal for the rest of the season. Official soon.
David 'Dubi' Pick: Mike James turned down $300K a month in China and is leaving the NBA to earn less in Greece. Followed his heart, bleeds PAO green.
“Mike established himself as an NBA player here and our partnership proved to be beneficial,” Suns general manager Ryan McDonough told Yahoo Sports. “Mike had a handful of 20-point games and helped us win a few games. We wish Mike the best as he works to find another home.” James’ release comes as young star Devin Booker and rookie Davon Reed are working to return to the court for the Suns, while Isaiah Canaan also has had strong performances since joining the team on an injury-hardship exemption. Canaan, who’s averaged 13 points and five assists in four games backing up Tyler Ulis, agreed to a minimum deal for the remainder of the season on Friday, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
It took two more years, but James finally made it. Phoenix signed him to a two-way, 45-day contract, but his play already has convinced the Suns that they want to keep him beyond the 45 days. General Manager Ryan McDonough told azcentral sports Friday that he hopes the team can negotiate a deal with James. Maybe then James will look back on what it took him to get here. Then again … “I don’t reflect a lot,” James said. “I probably should. Maybe when I’m retired, I can look back and say I did that and that and that.”
American combo guard Mike James will sign a guaranteed contract with the Phoenix Suns. It’s a deal that takes him away from Europe, where he’s spent the entirety of his career so far, and materializes his dream of playing in the NBA.
James was part of the amazing run of Baskonia the season that ended and now he is ready for the next step in his career as a member of the Greens. The deal signed is valid for next season, will pay him one million euros and also includes an NBA out option for this summer. However, the option can be used only if James gets a guaranteed contract for the NBA, which should be lucrative enough to compete with the deal he got from Panathinaikos.
