Becky Hammon says she feels it’s time a woman serve as a head coach in the league. “Of course,” she told Hoda Kotb in a preview of an interview for NBC’s upcoming prime-time special “Inspiring America: The 2021 Inspiration List” that aired Thursday on TODAY. “I mean, this ball is never moving fast enough, in my opinion. People don’t like doing something new and different. It’s uncomfortable. It takes massive amount of risk. Somebody’s going to have to take a chance.”

The Wolves had discussions with Vanderbilt about a possible extension, but those went nowhere, sources said, and now they will have the right to match any offer that comes along for him or McLaughlin.
So, there are open roster spots. And, of course, the Jazz traded Derrick Favors to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Favors will meet with Thunder brass on Tuesday, according to league sources. The result of that meeting will probably determine whether OKC plans to keep Favors on its roster for the upcoming season, or if the two sides will pursue another trade for Favors.
As for those who were in the rotation last season, league sources indicate that it’s highly unlikely that Georges Niang will return to the team. Niang, who was a valuable role player off the bench for Utah last season, will be an unrestricted free agent. He is expected to garner significant interest on the market, according to sources.
League sources indicate the Jazz, who will be deep into the luxury tax this coming season, have a willingness to use their taxpayer’s midlevel exception. That willingness comes with a caveat. They won’t use it for the sake of using it. That means that they want to use it on a player who they have identified as a primary target.
