Forward JaMychal Green could very well return to Denver, yet New Orleans and Minnesota are rumored by league sources as potential landing spots.
Michael Singer: It was reported, by myself and others, that tomorrow was JaMychal Green's deadline to pick up his $7.6 million option. That date, which even people within the organization had wrong, was on Friday. Green did indeed decline his PO to become an unrestricted free agent. (1/2)
Forward JaMychal Green opted out of his $7.6 million player option for next season and will be a free agent. He and the Nuggets are expected to discuss a new deal when free agency opens, but the seven-year NBA veteran will have other suitors too.
Shams Charania: Denver Nuggets forward JaMychal Green has declined his $7.6 million player option for the 2021-22 season and will become an unrestricted free agent, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.
JaMychal Green: There’s expected to be strong mutual interest between Green and Nuggets on a new deal in free agency. The 7-year NBA vet will have other suitors too.
Mike Singer: I know JaMychal Green is open to staying, but will likely come down to money/role. He’ll have to make decision on his PO, but he said multiple times how tough the second unit musical chairs was for him. Latest post is certainly encouraging.
Green has until July 26 to pick up his $7.6 million player option or become a free agent. Last offseason he declined a $5 million option with the Clippers and received a $2.1 million pay increase when signing with Denver. According to ProFitX, a Green contract for 2021-22 is comparable to his salary on the option for next season.

Shams Charania: Free agent JaMychal Green has agreed to a two-year, $15M deal with the Denver Nuggets, with player option in second season, sources tell @The Athletic @Stadium.
The Nuggets have shown interest in free-agent power forward JaMychal Green, a league source said. The Nuggets also have to consider the future of free-agent Paul Millsap.
Shams Charania: Los Angeles Clippers forward JaMychal Green has declined his $5M player option for the 2020-21 season and will become a free agent, sources tell @The Athletic @Stadium.
JaMychal Green is a valuable 3-and-D big who would fit as a low-end starter or third big for most NBA teams. He could command as much as the non-taxpayer midlevel exception, league sources tell The Athletic. The Clippers have his Early Bird Rights and can offer upwards of $9.5 million annually starting next season.
This is going to be a bitter offseason, but not one that rival executives expect will bring huge change. The Clippers will likely try to re-sign free agents Harrell, Morris and JaMychal Green (if he opts out).
Green has value on both ends of the court because of his versatility to guard multiple positions. On offense, he is an ideal bench option, averaging 6.8 points on 38.7% from 3. Don't be surprised if Green sees offers for all or most of the $9.3 million midlevel exception. He would be a good fit in Portland, especially if Carmelo Anthony does not return.
Andrew Greif: The Clippers' signing of JaMychal Green is now official, per the team.
But Green, seeing the Clippers have a legitimate shot to win a championship and that he could play a significant role, prioritized remaining with the team and is excited about the direction of the franchise. The Clippers’ front office put on a full-court press to retain him, signifying how much they value him and wanted him back, according to sources. That mattered to Green.
Bobby Marks: The JaMychal Green contract, two-years $17M, mirrors that of the $8.4M mid-level exception. Memphis now has 16 guaranteed contracts.
Michael Wallace: Grizz PF JaMychal Green had been in Memphis for days waiting for his deal to be finalized. He's be in #GrizzCamp for Thursday's 2 practices.
Michael Wallace: Both sides benefit. Grizz get price point I believe they've always valued JaMychal at. He gets flexibility to reset his market in 2 years.
Brandan Wright: Let’s do work @Jmyke1 ! 💪🏽
Shams Charania: RFA JaMychal Green is finalizing a two-year, $17M-plus deal to return to the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources tell The Vertical.
Ronald Tillery: JaMychal Green and Grizzlies working towards two-year deal worth at least $17 million with bonuses, source confirms
As of Tuesday night, the Grizzlies and restricted free agent forward JaMychal Green weren’t close to making a deal. Green has until Sunday to accept a $2.8 million qualifying offer if he can’t reach terms on a new contract. The qualifying offer would be for one year and make Green an unrestricted free agent next summer.
David Aldridge: While @JaMychal Green is in Memphis tonight, told he won’t be at media day Monday while his rep & Grizz work on deal. He’s last major unsigned RFA.
Michael Wallace: Mirotic and Len came off RFA board today. Can confirm JaMychal is in Memphis on eve of media day and Tuesday's start of camp. Sides working.
Bobby Marks: The Grizzlies JaMychal Green remains the lone restricted free agent not to sign. Green has until Oct. 1 to sign his $2.8M qualifying offer.
JaMychal Green remains a restricted agent, his $2,820,497 qualifying offer still outstanding from the Grizzlies. Chris Herrington of The Commercial Appeal: "They’ve offered significantly more than that, but also significantly less than Green and his agent were probably expecting when the process began."
JaMychal Green is a talented stretch forward who solidified his position in the NBA by starting 75 games last season. Green’s agent, Michael Hodges, and the Memphis Grizzlies haven’t had much success in their contract talks, and sign-and-trade possibilities have been broached. The Grizzlies have basically challenged Green to land an offer sheet to keep from bidding against themselves. With Zach Randolph gone to the Sacramento Kings, and young and oft-injured forward talent remaining next to star center Marc Gasol, it would be tough for the Grizzlies to lose Green.
The Grizzlies gave Green an offer sheet at the start of free agency, and both sides waited to see what other offers might present themselves. One league source put Green’s market worth at “8 to 10 million” annually, admitting that was “on the high side,” but was what the market would bear.
The Grizzlies are still planning to keep JaMychal Green, and their payroll is such that they really can’t afford to let him go. Green is 27 and coming off a breakout year, with impressive per-36 numbers (11.8 points, 9.3 rebounds). There has been interest from the Bulls, sources said, and he is a backup plan in San Antonio depending on what happens with Simmons
Adrian Wojnarowski: Memphis made a July 1 offer to restricted free agent JaMychal Green and are now awaiting an offer sheet, league sources tell ESPN.
Ronald Tillery: JaMychal Green’s agent, Michael Hodges, tells The CA that he hasn’t talked to Memphis about contract parameters since FA opened.
Michael Gallagher: Woj on ESPN: Grizzlies are trying to re-sign JaMychal Green.
So what will Green command? It would seem likely he’ll be somewhere in the $10-$12 million range, and potentially more if teams believe his 38 percent shooting clip from three is sustainable (which they’d be fair to question). But with virtually every team looking for players like him, his market should be a strong one.

Utah doesn't want Julius Randle?
Tommy Beer: Stephen A Smith on SiriumXM w/ @Rick Kamla this afternoon when asked about potential Mitchell deal: “Utah didn’t want Julius Randle, from what I’m told. They don’t want him. The Knicks were willing to unload him. They want RJ Barrett. They want at least 6 1st-round picks.” pic.twitter.com/9Nn7DuwlZe

I knew if we could win Game 3 and go to 3-0, it was pretty much a wrap on the series. It was just a matter of whether [the series would be won] in Game 4 or a “gentleman’s sweep” in Game 5. Down the stretch in the fourth quarter, we got a stop, and I was just talking to myself: “Put ‘em to sleep. Put ‘em to sleep.” That was the conversation I was having with myself. Not with anyone else on the team or anyone else in the arena. Then, I had finished that layup underneath Jokic, and that was the thought that came out – just to do the sign. I didn’t say, “Night Night” at the time. I was just telling myself, “Put ‘em to sleep.” Fast forward to Game 5, when I made the last layup to go up five with 19 seconds left. That was the official, “Put them to sleep.” The camera didn’t get me on that one, but I actually said it. Fast forward to Memphis, Dallas and then Boston, and it kind of took on a life of its own.
NDP: How did it feel to break it out again in Boston and seal the Finals win? SC: It felt the best. The way that game went, it was an emotional rollercoaster. They came out just hitting every shot, and they were up double digits in the first four minutes. We slowly just crept back and then went on that 21-nothing run. When we came out in the third quarter, everyone was feeling it. Let’s just step on their throats, right now.
NDP: What’s it been like seeing athletes from sports all around the world doing the celebration? SC: It’s the best, ’cause some are taking it to new extremes that I would never feel comfortable doing in the league. But it’s dope to know how far the reach is. I’ve told people before, “I know there’s people that did the symbol before me.” But to know that you cemented a moment that’s on the biggest of stages, and people are inspired by it and want to have fun with whatever they’re doing with it — they’ve taken their own spin on it and have had some creativity with it.

NBA increasing baseball-style series in 2022-23 schedule

Marc Stein: The NBA’s new schedule has 55 baseball-style series in which the road team plays the same foe twice in a row without travel … up from 23 last season. Plus 33 instances on the schedule in which the road team stays in LA or New York to play both local teams on the same trip.
