NBA rumors: Andres Nocioni: 'Some NBA team will try to sign Facundo Campazzo this summer'

Andres Nocioni on Facundo Campazzo: “I think that Real Madrid will have to listen to offers from NBA teams this summer. On behalf of his agent, Claudio Villanueva, or some club that wants him, I think that some team is going to try to turn the situation around and bring him to the NBA, that’s the reality. It also seems to me that Madrid is going to have to understand that it is going to be a move that he is going to try to make at some point. It is not easy for the players to make a great decision like Sergio Llull did, not everyone has that mentality of staying in Europe as Sergio has done. Facundo always saw the NBA as a possibility, since he was very young. He is not going to push it, but circumstances are going to make him consider the possibility.”

More on Facundo Campazzo to the NBA?

Facu Campazzo’s agent Claudio Villanueva talked about the rumor mill surrounding the Argentinian guard’s name in regards to the NBA in a recent interview with basketplus.com. Although there is ‘low to moderate’ interest in the player by the Dallas Mavericks per reports, his agent explains that there is nothing concrete to date.
“That (interest) was born from a tweet that came out of Croatia that spoke of Campazzo in the NBA. I’m going to tell you something, just to be clear. In the past two years, during the season, NBA scouts have spoken to me a thousand times to ask. If you add to that the players continue to evolve… Campazzo, I said it 3 years ago, is the best guard in Europe, and being the best guard in Europe means being one of the 3 best players in Europe. If the NBA does not keep an eye on one of the best, it would be crazy”, said Villanueva. “There is nothing concrete, there is nothing spoken, and also today the NBA does not know how they will end and if they end the season, how the other one will play out or start. They don’t know the salary cap. So if you tell me, did they ask you about Campazzo? I tell you yes, a thousand times. But today there is nothing concrete”, he added.
According to Argentina coach Jorge Hernandez, Campazzo had already had opportunities to join an NBA team, but only as an inferior option from the bench. Something that isn’t exactly fulfilling for such an action-hankering baller. “Campazzo is a player who needs action and needs to play. Maybe next season, some NBA team will move to sign him, but until now the option he had to go to the NBA was that of a “filler” and third point guard,” Hernandez said to Radio Marca.
One could say that Campazzo has been building a compelling argument to be considered as something more than a tertiary selection by NBA teams. Hernandez certainly believes that this is the case and that his player will make the jump to the NBA. “Now the option to go to the NBA is going to be presented and Facundo is going to take advantage of it because he has broken all the barriers that have been put in front of him and will also break them in the NBA,” Hernandez said.
Real Madrid star guard Facu Campazzo has seen his name circulating in various NBA reports and rumors over the last seasons. The Argentinian playmaker is under a five-year contract he signed with the “Blancos” in 2019, a deal that includes an NBA buyout clause of 6 million, according to Eurohoops’ sources. A potential move to the NBA will require Campazzo to pay the bulk of the above sum: 5.275 million. The rest can be covered by his destination team.
There has been speculation for a possible increase in the buyout clauses of Campazzo’s contract after the Copa del Rey, something that his manager, Claudio Villanueva denied on Clarín. “It is by no means true that the club has increased the exit clause by the number being said. Nothing has changed”, Campazzo’s manager mentioned. According to Clarín, the exit clause in the Argentinean’s contact is estimated between 6 and 8 million dollars. That being said, the door to the NBA can still remain open for the 28-year-old guard.

You’ve said several times that you were obsessed with the NBA in the past. Why did you use to think like that? Facundo Campazzo: It was kind of an obsession for me until some years ago. Right now, I’m very calm about it. It was a teenage dream that one has, growing up and watching the NBA. Players like Jason Kidd and Steve Nash could make you fall in love with basketball whenever you turned on the television. At the age of 10-12, I used to say that it would be like a fantasy dream for me to play there. Now, I feel very calm with my presence in Madrid. If it comes, let it come. If not, I’ll try to become the best version of myself.
Phoenix is one of the team following Facundo Campazzo. But those teams all have the same issue. "His buyout is too pricey, very hard to get him out of (Real Madrid)," an NBA scout told Infobae.
Julian Mozo: There were some teams interested in Facundo Campazzo, like the Nuggets who had two obstacles: His high release clause and Facu’s wishes. “We didn’t have any talks yet, but we believe he prefers to stay in Real Madrid”, they told me.
Facundo Campazzo talked about a possible move to the NBA as well as his target with Argentina in the 2019 Basketball World Cup. Here is what the Argentinian guard of Real Madrid told the Argentinian outlet La Nacion: On playing in the NBA in the future: “I used to be obsessed with the NBA, but not anymore. I re-signed with Real Madrid and I have two years left in the contract and I can display my talents with a big club, but yes the contract includes an NBA-out clause.”
Campazzo, 28, has established himself as the starting point guard of Real Madrid in the last two years, following his return from a loan to UCAM Murcia. In an interview with Eurohoops prior to the EuroLeague Final Four, he said that he used to be “obsessed” with making an NBA team but he feels more relaxed about making it to the league now.
Real Madrid fans are sure delighted because you are living the best moment of your career but, at the same time, they should be worried because many NBA scouts will be waiting for you… Facundo Campazzo: Maybe in previous years I was obsessed with the NBA or I was pressing myself… I was really obsessed. But now I am in a more relaxed, in a calmer stage and that’s why I renewed my contract for three years here
Adrian Wojnarowski: Argentina's @Facundo Campazzo, 25, hopes to make leap to NBA, starting with summer league. “I feel the time is right," guard tells @The Vertical. Campazzo plays for @UCAMMurcia, on loan from Real Madrid. He had a strong 2016 Olympics w/ @ManuGinobili. Small, but skilled, tough-minded.
As for Campazzo, he has to make a decision next summer. He fared well against Olympic competition, averaging 15.8 points and 5.8 assists, and he competed favorably against NBA players. “He’s an NBA player, I believe,” Scola said. “He’s good for today’s NBA, the pace is very fast. He needs to work on some areas of his game, but he’s getting better year after year and I think it’s a matter of when he takes the chance to come here. It’s going to be difficult for him to come in a very good situation like a three-year guarantee — a good contract. It’s going to be more like, come in, earning a spot, making a team, getting into the rotation, proving you can play.
“There will be a lot of issues with his size, his body will always be against him, and he needs to come here and prove that it doesn’t matter, that he can play basketball. It’s a question of when he wants to make that step When is the time right? “The older you are, the more difficult it is,” Scola said. “When you’re younger, you’re by yourself, you move around, it doesn’t matter. You just grab a bag, go to a hotel and it’s fine. When you’re older, your margin of error is less and you don’t want to make a mistake. Family comes into play and kids come into play. You don’t have the same energy as when you’re in your early 20s.”

The Clippers owner also paid the town of Inglewood $66.2 million for the land where Intuit Dome will sit. The Clippers will get some of that back, though. Intuit, the software company that makes Turbo Tax, will pay the team more than $500 million for a 23-year naming rights slot. That deal only enhanced Ballmer’s optimism. “This stadium is about being optimistic about our team,” Ballmer said. “It’s about being optimistic about our fans. Get in the building, pump up, make energy,” Ballmer added, clapping his hands. “Your energy can feed our team to greater success.”
