The Los Angeles Clippers have waived Justin Patton. Patton was included in the Clippers’ three-team trade for Luke Kennard.
Mirjam Swanson: Clippers announce they have waived center Justin Patton. Patton, 23, was acquired as part of a three-team deal with the Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 19.
John Hollinger: Pistons had $1.085 million of pro-rated non-taxpayer MLE remaining and, per league source, used roughly half of it on Patton. Meaning they could easily go to this well again for another player -- giving them a free ~$500k in return for a non-guaranteed 20-21 deal.
James Edwards III: Sources tell @The Athletic that Patton's deal has a non-guaranteed second year for the minimum.
Rod Beard: #Pistons didn't have a center under contract for next season. John Henson and Thon Maker will become free agents. Patton is a low-risk option and new GM Troy Weaver has seen him play.
Mavs PR: The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have acquired center Willie Cauley-Stein from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Utah’s 2020 second-round pick. In a related move, Dallas has also requested waivers on center Justin Patton.
Brad Townsend: Patton cannot be waived tonight, so the Cauley-Stein deal won’t go through until tomorrow at soonest. No announcements on that front tonight.
Brad Townsend: Although Cauley-Stein deal hasn't been announced, I'm told there are no wrinkles or holdups, there's an order that must be followed. Notice the Mavs haven't yet waived Patton. That's the roster spot needed to add Cauley-Stein.

Ira Winderman: Wait, Erik Spoelstra laughed during a pregame presser. He was asked if having had coached a Big 3 gave him insight on how to now slow a Big 3, he simply replied, “No.” And, yes, laughed. And with that, pregame media session ended.
Omari Sanfoka II: Dwane Casey on Saddiq Bey’s slump after a hot start: “Nothing to be alarmed about. The young man is working his behind off … there’s always going to be a leveling off period and that’s what he’s going through right now. He’ll bounce back.”
Dane Moore: Ryan Saunders said 24 to 28 minutes is a “fair range” to expect for Ricky Rubio tonight who is in his second game back from COVID protocols. Jordan McLaughlin will be backup PG. And Jaylen Nowell will be third-string if that is needed.
