Shams Charania: Free agent Iman Shumpert is finalizing a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.
Shams Charania: Shumpert spent time with the Nets last season, making an impact on the defensive end of the floor, and is now returning to Brooklyn, sources said. The Nets needed to sign a player today to reach 14 roster spots.
But you are trying to get back in the League... Iman Shumpert: I've worked out for some teams... I'd be really surprised if you know every ballclub in the league is like 'Ah, nah, we'll need him'... I'd just be surprised... But I've seen crazy things happen. But for me I feel like I could rest assured of my body of work and of my work ethic to stay with it and stay hungry. I feel like it speaks for itself. As far as me coming back to the league I don't see it ... It's like I'm so far away. I just see it as you know, this summer I wasn't healthy enough to go to the bubble and now I'm getting healthy and the league is you know trying to figure out a way to let the fans back in the arenas so I feel like it's a fresh start like any other thing.
Hey Alex. Has there been any talk in the front office about bringing back Iman Shumpert for the bubble? I feel like when he was with the team they were playing their best. His leadership could be useful. Alex Schiffer: @Adam B. I think there's only been so much front office talk since the roster expansion news didn't come until this weekend. But I think Shumpert would be at the top of their wish list if they elect to go that direction. They could opt to see what they have in some G-League guys.
Denver considered several veteran players, including Iman Shumpert and Joakim Noah, prior to signing former Lakers guard Troy Daniels, sources say. The Nuggets still have one roster spot open.
Shams Charania: The Brooklyn Nets are waiving guard Iman Shumpert, league sources tell @The Athletic @Stadium. Nets were 9-4 with Shumpert and reluctantly released him due to full roster guarantees.
Free agent guard Iman Shumpert has had conversations with teams, including Memphis and Chicago, league sources said. Shumpert, an eight-year NBA veteran, is one of the best players remaining on the market.
Shams Charania: After months of discussions, free agent Iman Shumpert has decided to decline the Rockets' contract offer, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Shumpert will not attend team minicamp this week in Las Vegas.
Alex Kennedy: Kyrie Irving has talked to some veteran role players to gauge their interest in joining Nets. I'm hearing Irving talked to Iman Shumpert to see if he'd want to join BKN. Irving and Shumpert played together in CLE and won title in 2016. Shumpert has interest from other teams too.
David F.: Do you believe the Kings are likely to retain Iman Shumpert after his contract ends? Jason Jones: @David F. I think a few things work in Shump's favor to return: 1. His teammates love him and the Kings seem to really value that. 2. He's already a part of the culture that has improved. 3. I think his value to the Kings (along with the intangibles) might be worth more to the Kings than another team. It really depends on how much it will cost to keep him (I know that's not a definitive answer). This situation just reminds me that you never know what can happen in the NBA ... before the season the front office wasn't even expecting this kind of contribution from Shumpert.
In an expected move, Kings guard Iman Shumpert has officially exercised his $11 million option Friday to return to the Kings next season, a league source confirmed to The Bee. Shumpert joins center Kosta Koufos as veterans who have decided to exercise player options on contracts for next season. Koufos' option is worth $8.7 million.
Shams Charania: Sacramento Kings guard Iman Shumpert has opted into his $11M player option for the 2018-19 season, league sources tell Yahoo.
Shumpert is almost certain to opt in for next season. Having dealt with foot and knee injuries, this is not the time for Shumpert to test free agency when he has $11 million guaranteed for next season, even if he's not a part of the Kings' long-term plans. I'm intrigued by what Shumpert might add. He's only 27 and has shown he can play in pressure situations, having been a part of Cleveland's 2016 NBA championship team. Shumpert will be motivated to show the rest of the league he is healthy and that he can play a key role on a team.
Alex Kennedy: Source: Iman Shumpert has agreed to a four-year, $40 million deal with the Cavs. Last year is a player option.
Alex Kennedy: League source says one of the first teams to reach out to Iman Shumpert last night was the Los Angeles Lakers.
Chris Broussard: Sources: Lakers, Mavericks & Bucks interested in @Iman Shumpert (Shumpert). FYI: @LeBron James is a big fan of Shump & his defense.
The Cavaliers will have the right to match any offer sheets Shumpert receives on the open market. At 24 years of age and following a rejuvenated season, he will be in store for a lucrative pay raise from the $2.6 million he collected this past season. Half a dozen teams have expressed interest in the quick-handed, defensive-oriented guard with upside, a source says. League executives believe he'll command north of $8 million per.

The Lakers may be willing to take that leap of faith because Ham spent two years with the organization. His personality isn’t easily forgotten. Ham brings a lot of energy to a gym. He’s arguably the best fit for the locker room, with veterans like LeBron James, Anthony Davis and possibly Russell Westbrook in need of a coach they can relate to and respect. “He’s the guy LeBron wants,” a competing source said. It will be up to Ham to spell out his basketball vision, in general and in context to the Lakers’ roster makeup. He could be the hire if he can sell that side to the team’s front office.
Stotts may be the opposite of Vogel, a high-level defensive coach with a limited offensive repertoire. If Stotts is the hire, the Lakers should pair him with a high-level lead defensive assistant. Some sources wondered if Stotts would struggle, like Vogel, to command the locker room’s respect, although he worked well with Lillard for a long stretch.
He also has a reputation for being a bit headstrong or rigid in personality. He’s going to demand respect, but he’s going to need to clarify precisely why he and the Nets divorced in-season. Is he the right coach for star players with strong personalities like James? Atkinson may have the most outside-the-box style of the three finalists. Per a competing source, he’s similar to Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse, willing to experiment with unconventional strategies to win by whatever means necessary.
Donatas Urbonas: Vasilije Micic on the possibility to go to the NBA next season: “I’m in a situation where I have two more years of the contract no matter what happens. But of course, I like to look at all kinds of challenges. If this option comes out, I would be ready to risk.”
The Warriors came back from a 19-point deficit to beat the Dallas Mavericks 126-117 in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals. The Warriors now have a 2-0 advantage in the series. The first two quarters of the game were owned by the Mavericks. They hit 15 3-pointers in the first half, setting a new franchise record for 3s made in a playoff half. Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson became the second pair of starting guards to each score 20 points in the first half of a playoff game in the past 25 seasons. “I told them that if we developed some poise in the second half, the game would come to us,” Kerr said. “But I thought we were so scattered in the first half. Maybe emotionally more so than anything. Dallas came out and just punched us. We felt confident that if we [got poised], they wouldn’t make 15 3s in the second half.”
On defense, Looney held the Mavericks to 1-of-11 shooting from the field as the primary defender, including holding Doncic to 0-of-3. He also grabbed 12 rebounds. Looney is accustomed to being switched onto guards like Doncic. During the Warriors’ dynastic runs, he was switched onto James Harden when Golden State faced Houston multiple times during the postseason. “I take kind of the same approach,” Looney said. “I’m just a little bit more battle-tested. That was my first time playing on a big stage like this. I don’t know if even my teammates had the most faith in me, but they put me out there and I handled it pretty well.
