Cavaliers forward Larry Nance Jr. underwent successful surgery today to address a fracture in his left fourth metacarpal that occurred during Saturday night’s home game against Milwaukee at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
Nance is expected to remain out approximately six weeks and will undergo a period of rest and rehabilitation.

Nance was evaluated Friday afternoon, the team’s off day, but the Cavs still weren’t ready to make an official determination. They won’t know anything more about his playing status for Sunday afternoon -- and beyond -- until he visits a specialist Saturday. “Hopefully it won’t end up being too much time,” a source said via text Friday.
Chris Fedor: #Cavs Larry Nance Jr. had his left thumb taped by trainer Steve Spiro toward the end of Sunday’s game. It’s still wrapped. During pregame warmups he’s been playing with it a bit, trying to get comfortable shooting. “I’m fine. Will be alright”
Ira Winderman: Cavaliers upgrade Larry Nance Jr. (knee) to probable for Friday vs. Heat. But Love, Nwaba, Smith, Thompson listed as out by Cleveland. Only Dragic (knee, out) on Heat injury report.
Dave McMenamin: Larry Drew says that Tristan Thompson, Rodney Hood and Larry Nance Jr. are all back on a minute restriction. Cleveland will keep its recent starting lineup of Calderon, Hill, James, Green and Love, however.
Cleveland has two open roster spots, so they could sign an additional big man to a 10-day contract, but their luxury tax situation would make that pretty costly. Lue is being patient about saying he wants to add another body. "Just got to see how serious Larry’s situation is and kind of go from there," Lue said. "But right now we got what we got and we just gotta go with it."
Nance was hobbling when Tristan Thompson subbed in for him with 4:15 left in the fourth quarter. He said he collided with Denver's Gary Harris and "hyperextended" his knee. "It's fine, I was ready to go back in," Nance said. "I just needed to come out like, 'I'm all right, good, let's go.' Coach Lue decided to stay with the guys that were in, but I was ready to go."
Bill Oram: It'll be Larry Nance Jr. into the starting lineup tonight with Kyle Kuzma back to the bench. In 11 games as a starter Kuzma averaged 18.1 points in 35.6 minutes.
Tania Ganguli: Larry Nance Jr. left practice early with a cut over his eye. Won't affect his ability to play tomorrow.
Larry Nance Jr. could be back on the court for the Lakers as early as Monday, barely three weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a fracture in his left hand. The third-year power forward has been practicing with the team since his cast came off on Nov. 14. After playing Wednesday at Sacramento, the Lakers will go four days before their next game, Monday against the Clippers.
Larry Nance Jr. (hand) is getting closer to a return. He had a dental procedure that will prevent him from getting work with the G-League team this week but the Lakers were going to wait through a break this Thanksgiving weekend to give Nance Jr. more time. A return is likely for next week.

The Los Angeles akers might have lost their starting power forward for some time after Larry Nance Jr. suffered a broken hand in the team's 113-110 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Nance underwent X-rays that revealed a fractured second metacarpal in his left hand. Nance left the game for good with 3 minutes, 45 seconds remaining in the third quarter before the Blazers handed the Lakers a 113-110 loss at the Moda Center. He left after he committed his fourth personal foul on Caleb Swanigan.
Nance, whose father, Larry Sr., won the inaugural slam dunk contest in 1984, has been itching to make an appearance. However, he is expected to play Sunday for the first time since since Dec. 20 after missing 16 games with a bone bruise in his left knee. Last season, he missed 10 games in January and February with a sore right knee. “The timing of it is obviously not ideal,” Nance said. “The same thing kind of happened last year, I don’t even know if I have that much time to prepare, I don’t even know if the other guys have accepted. But I’m kind of sitting, waiting on it, but I think this year might be out of the cards.”

The Lakers considered adding a frontcourt player to absorb the absence of reserve forward Larry Nance Jr. who has stayed sidelined the past two weeks with a bone bruise in his left knee. But Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak told Southern California News Group that he would have likely felt more inclined to make a roster change had Nance suffered a season-ending injury. The Lakers expect Nance to return in about two weeks.
The odds appear high he will stick considering his production and Nance’s absence. Though Nance has recently worked out on a weight-bearing treadmill, the Lakers expect him to miss four more weeks.
