NBA rumors: Nets bypassing qualifying offer on Chris Chiozza and Mike James

More on Chris Chiozza Free Agency

JD Shaw: The Brooklyn Nets have re-signed Chris Chiozza to a two-way deal. Team also requested waivers on Jeremiah Martin.
You’re a restricted free agent. With all the uncertainty in the world, do you have any nerves of not finding a home for next season or do you think you’ve done enough to play in the NBA next season? Chris Chiozza: I’m pretty certain that I’ll find somewhere. I’m not really trying to think about it too much. I take it day by day. Just focusing on what I can control. Free agency isn’t something I can control. I’m just going to let everything play out and hope for the best.
As to whether he’d want to come back next season —he’ll be a restricted free agent come October— Chiozza said he “definitely” wants to return. “I’ve gotten comfortable here, enjoy the teammates, the staff, all the coaches. So I would love to back for sure.”
NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke of a possible return once there’s an “all clear” from public health officials, according to ESPN. If and when that happens, the Nets would likely want to use Chiozza in the playoffs, but to do so they’d have to convert him from a two-way player to a standard NBA deal. That would necessitate creating a roster spot for the 24-year-old, which would require waiving somebody. Pinson would be the most likely casualty, a tough one for the immensely popular second-year pro from North Carolina.
Chase Hughes: The Wizards have added PG Chris Chiozza as a camp invite, I'm told. He played for Wiz & Rockets last yr. But aside from him, no plans to bring in reinforcements, per source. They'll roll w/ Smith, Robinson, McRae & Brown. Beal will also see time on-ball. More soon @NBCSWizards
Jonathan Feigen: Rockets announce the signing of guard Chris Chiozza to get to the required 14 players. He played with the Vipers when on a 10-day contract with the Rockets and has been in the G League with Capital City this season.
Adrian Wojnarowski: The Rockets are signing G League guard Chris Chiozza to a 10-day contract, league sources tell ESPN. A rookie out of Florida, he was preparing to play with Jeff Van Gundy and USA Basketball at the FIBA qualifiers in Greensboro.

NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo was in Greece for a meeting with the country’s prime minister Thursday and a special ceremony to bestow Greek citizenship on his mother Veronica and younger brother Alex. Antetokounmpo, who led the Milwaukee Bucks to the NBA championship in July, attended the ceremony at the official residence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The 26-year-old Antetokounmpo was born in Athens, the son of Nigerian immigrants. He was granted Greek citizenship in 2013, allowing him to travel to the United States and join the Bucks later that year.
“We always felt Greek, but now we have an official stamp and we are happy,” Antetokounmpo told reporters after the ceremony. “Alex and my mom are Greek citizens now.” Antetokounmpo also traveled to Greece in August with his brother Thanassis, carrying the Larry O’Brien NBA championship trophy. He took the trophy to the ancient Acropolis in Athens to celebrate with members of his family.
