Williams -- speaking at the unveiling of an Arbella Home Court Makeover in Kingston, MA -- said he has been working out on his own, rather than participating in 5-on-5 drills. "Still taking it day by day," Williams said. "There's people that have a lot of time, a lot of money invested in you now, they don't want to mess up what they got going. But I'm thankful for the trainers and the coaches, just taking it day by day."
Jay King: Robert Williams said he’s still working on strengthening his knee. “It’s a case of tendinitis. ... It’s been coming good so far. I’ve been working hard to get back to where I’ve been, where I was at.”
Tom Westerholm: Rob Williams on taking his time with his rehab: “These people got a lot of time, a lot of money invested in you now. They don’t want to mess up what they got going.”
Gary Washburn: No Semi Ojeleye and Jabari Bird (rest), no Robert Williams (knee) and no Kadeem Allen (waived) for the #Celtics today against #Blazers
Jay King: Jay Larranaga said Robert Williams has been progressing well but the Celtics will be cautious with his potential return.
Celtics rookie Robert Williams on Tuesday confirmed that he has played through an artery condition in his legs that can cause cramping and calf pain, but he said the issue has dissipated recently and is not a major concern moving forward. “Yeah, it was just a time-to-time thing,” Williams told the Globe. “I haven’t been dealing with it for a while really. The last time was in the middle of my college season last year.”
Williams, who was drafted 27th overall by the Celtics last month, said that NBA teams were aware of his issue and that it came up frequently during the pre-draft process. “Definitely, they asked me about it,” he said. “Every team is supposed to have concerns about what they’re investing money in, and I tell them it’s under control. I’ve been playing with it for two years in college and playing pretty well. It starts like a little burning sensation and then it’ll just cramp up. It goes away though. I play through it.”
Fred Katz: Larranaga on Williams’ status: “I think they said yesterday he was at around 65, 70 percent he felt, which is good.” pic.twitter.com/gvSZdIpc7e
Jay King: Robert Williams won’t be practicing today with the group. He’ll go through an individual workout.
Boston Celtics rookie Robert Williams has an artery condition in both of his legs, multiple sources tell MassLive. A source described the condition as, "not too serious." It could, however, require a procedure if it were to degenerate down the line.
NBA teams, including the Celtics, were aware of Williams' condition at the time of the draft -- as was Texas A&M, where Williams went to college. The rookie has been playing with the condition for years, sources told MassLive. The L.A. Clippers' doctors performed his predraft physical and disseminated results to other organizations upon request, standard procedure for a prospect. The Celtics have also done their own physicals on Williams.
Fred Katz: Brad Stevens on Robert Williams: "Everyday, I get an update on where he’s at. So every morning, they say, can he play or can’t play? So far, it’s been can’t play. So, I don’t want him to play if he’s hurting at all, but we’ll reassess it whenever our next game is."
Marc D'Amico: #NEBHInjuryReport Robert Williams III (left knee contusion) is OUT for tonight’s #NBASummer League game against Charlotte.
Jared Weiss: Robert Williams had knee soreness coming into the game and bumped it today, exacerbating the soreness. He’s going to stay off his feet tonight to try to play tomorrow.
Jared Weiss: Celtics coach Jay Larranaga didn’t get a medical update after the game on Robert Williams. This is your medical update on Robert Williams.
Fred Katz: Robert Williams bumped knees with a player on the Sixers, the Celtics said. He's being evaluated now. Not sure which knee it was.
Jared Weiss: Williams is back out of the locker room now but is sitting on the bench with a big ice pack on his left knee. Looks out for the game.
September 27, 2022 | 7:08 pm EDT Update
Mike Trudell: Injury update: Troy Brown Jr. is still dealing with his back issue and is day-to-day, while Lonnie Walker IV is progressing and close to returning to practice (he was on the floor shooting 3’s after practice). Kendrick Nunn was a full participant. pic.twitter.com/D14EXsgKT6
Mike Trudell: Kendrick Nunn reiterated his comments on media day that he’s feeling fully healthy. “It’s been a long time coming, and I feel real good now. I feel a lot stronger. I got my quickness back.”
Dave McMenamin: Kendrick Nunn says “it’s definitely a different vibe” at the start of this year’s training camp compared to last season. “It’s a different vibe, a new coaching staff, Coach Ham coming in and implanting things that he wants done,” he added. “Guys are buying in.”
If Thibodeau heard the noise, he wasn’t copping to it Tuesday. “I’ve never felt pressure, ever,” he said. “See, when you put everything you have into your job, that’s all you can do. So I’ve never felt pressure. Others can say this, that … that ain’t happening here. Just get ready.”
He was just getting started. “I’ve been at this a long time. I approach it the same way. I put everything I have into each and every day. I’m willing to live with that result. There’s no one — no one — who studies this team harder than I do.”
“We’re looking for who fits the best,” Bickerstaff said following the team’s first official practice. “What we try to do is put together the best five-man units that we possibly can. We feel like we are a deep team, and your first unit, second unit, third unit once you make your rotations — we’re trying to create as strong of units as we possibly can. It’s not something where we’re gonna rotate it or anything like that. It’s something that we want to put together so guys have an understanding of who they are and where they fit and when their minutes are gonna come. Whoever can help that group be the best on both ends of the floor, that’s the group we’ll put in. That doesn’t always mean that’s the group that you finish games with. I think there can be two separate groups here.”
In his own words, there are “a lot of players” in the running for the starting gig and there isn’t a frontrunner. According to Bickerstaff, Cedi Osman, Dean Wade, Isaac Okoro, Caris LeVert, Lamar Stevens and Dylan Windler are the contenders. That’s almost half the roster.
Bobby Marks: You can look at it as 1 trade but 2 separate parts. Atlanta is now $1.28M below the tax but have the flexibility to increase because of the $781K partial of Krejci. OKC with 18 guaranteed contract and pick up an additional draft asset. pic.twitter.com/cdS7Eak7H0
