Breaking NBA Playoff Schedule News, Lakers Games To Watch, Fan Questions pscp.tv/w/cVFnozFlV0t5…
Final: LAL 89, POR 84. LAL outscored POR 31-13 in the 4th to secure a Finals trip. Said Kobe, the star of the game IMO (25P, 11R, 7A, 4B), in the walk off: “This is what makes champions. You watch Game 7 growing up all the time, and to finally play in one is a beautiful feeling."
Poor FT shooting really hurt LAL in this series. They shot 62.7% overall …. But got those 2 big ones from Kobe, who then drilled the J to put them up 83-79. We know what’s next...
That’s a super tough shot there … contested, turnaround hook from the edge of the paint. Money from Shaq.
* @Shaquille O'Neal only took 9 FGA’s in 46 minutes of this game, making 5 towards 18 points. He came up big on both ends in the 4th Q when it mattered. Then, by the way, he DESTROYED Indy in the Finals: 38.0P, 16.7R, 2.7B, 2.3A for his 1st of 3 Finals MVP’s.
LOL Big Shot @Robert Horry got his money’s worth on that charge with the high knees. Great play from Scottie. But Big Shot’s 3 on the previous play cut that margin to just 5. Lakers starting to feel good, fans going nuts.
’Sheed was 10 for 17 through 3 Q’s … LAL did hold him to 3 of 9 FG's in the 4th, for his game-high 30 points. He also hurt LAL in Game 7 of the 2010 Finals, playing for Boston, when he hit 5 of 11 FG’s in a start for the injured @Kendrick Perkins, towards 11P, 8R, 2A + 2B.
I needed that @geeter3 cut in.
Forgot about that banked 3 from B Shaw to answer Scottie's big triple. Huge play. The players have to sit for 4 minutes between quarters, and a play like that allows belief to spread the whole time. Meanwhile the opponent starts to think … there’s a lot of time left.
Steve Smith was throwing flames in that 3rd Q. He only took 4 3’s in the game, and made 3 of them, including that pair in the 3rd Q that helped POR go up 15. But LAL would eventually crack down on Smith in the 4th. He finished 7 for 17 from the field.
Nervous time at Staples Center … but remember that NBA teams with this type of talent typically just want to be within 10 with 6 minutes left on the clock. Portland was excellent in building that lead, but the Lakers were still confident. Get ready for the defense to turn up.
Sabonis did a nice job of using that huge body to keep an even larger human, Shaq, off his sweet spots. Portland also was great with the help defense on Shaq, with Scottie, ‘Sheed and Smith digging down. @Shaquille O'Neal still averaged 25.9P on 53.7% FG’s w/12.4R, 1.9B and 4.3A.
In case you wanted the Iron Man streak number for A.C. Green: 1,192. That’s not getting broken. Green took only 1 FGA in this game, playing 15 minutes. Robert Horry played 33 off the bench, Brian Shaw 17, Rick Fox 13 and Fish 9.
They mentioned that Phil Jackson had some kind of confidence to keep Shaq on the floor with 3 PF’s for most of the 2nd Q. Guess winning 6 chips to that point gave him a bit of experience! Phil the 🐐 coach and I will not debate this especially since it’s already the 3rd Q!
Laker fans, which game was more stressful?
