Brandon Rahbar: Presti on Andre Roberson returning to the Thunder: He says the roster is pretty full right now, but he still has to more work to do. (I don’t think Dre is coming back. Here’s hoping he lands somewhere and continues his comeback.)
More Rumors in this Storyline
Were you talking to other teams or did you basically just work with the Thunder directly on this before shopping around? Andre Roberson: Oklahoma City is where I wanted to be, to be honest. So I tried to work a deal with them first before we went to anyone else, and that was that.
Erik Horne: The Thunder has made the Andre Roberson signing official. Quote from Sam Presti: pic.twitter.com/2fdoeD9GFG
David Aldridge: OKC considered options, but chose to be loyal to Roberson (@Adrian Wojnarowski first), who’ll return to his elite defensive role w/@Paul George in town.
Brett Dawson: Two motivated parties in the Andre Roberson deal. He wants to be in OKC, Thunder views him as important piece.
Brett Dawson: Sam Presti said after the season that an offer sheet would have made it more difficult with Roberson. This avoids that potential snag.
The Andre Roberson three-year $30M contract not puts Oklahoma City with $125.1M in salary. The Thunder are now $5.8M over the luxury with an early tax bill of $8.9M.
Adrian Wojnarowski: Andre Roberson has agreed to a new three-year, $30M deal with Oklahoma City, league sources tell ESPN.
Adrian Wojnarowski: Roberson preferred the three year deal over four, sources said. He’s developed into an excellent role player with Thunder.
Royce Young: One ripple effect from the George acquisition I’m gathering: The Thunder are much more likely to retain Andre Roberson now.
Fred Katz: Possible this makes re-signing Roberson even more likely. OKC opened up money & Thunder always preferred his fit as a SG next to a big SF
Andre Roberson last week expressed his interest in returning to Oklahoma City, and on Monday, Thunder general manager Sam Presti said he’s “excited about the fact that (Roberson) is a part of the team.”
“Every indication we’ve had from Dre and from his people, his agent, is that he loves playing here,” Presti said. “And I’ve always said this to everybody before: When the player shows an interest in being here, it really exponentially helps your opportunity to get a contract done, if you would like to.”
Fred Katz: Soon-to-be free agent Andre Roberson: “I definitely want to be back…Hopefully, we can work something out.”
Erik Horne: Andre Roberson says he’s nervous about restricted free agency but wants to work something out with Thunder.
The Thunder have only one clear unknown about the existing roster: Roberson, a restricted free agent this summer. After the team inked extensions with Adams and Oladipo last October, Roberson and the Thunder couldn’t find common ground. Roberson has his limitations, but he is one of the elite defenders in the league, and with some development and better understanding of his role as the season went along — the Thunder preached less shooting, more cutting and driving — the Thunder are intent on keeping him.
KC Johnson: Bulls pushed hard for Andre Roberson, source said. But Thunder wants to re-sign him.
Jeff Goodman: Appears unlikely that Oklahoma City Thunder and Andre Roberson get anything done by deadline tonight on rookie extension, source told ESPN.
Adam Zagoria: Andre Roberson and OKC ‘not likely’ to get deal done tonight, source says. 1st by @Jeff Goodman
Are you excited about being a free agent at the end of the season or would you rather sign an extension? Andre Roberson: At this moment, I’m not much into that. I just leave that to my agents. I’m going to play my game and live one day at a time. Priority is focusing on the team and do what I do. I’m not really worried about that aspect. If I go out there and play my game, everything is going to take care of itself.
