Charlotte Hornets General Manager Rich Cho announced today that the team has acquired center Chris Andersen and cash considerations from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for a protected second-round pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The second-round pick is top-55 protected. In a subsequent move, the Hornets have waived Andersen and the Charlotte roster stands at 14 players.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded center Chris Andersen and cash considerations to Charlotte for a protected second round pick, General Manager David Griffin announced on Monday from Cleveland Clinic Courts. Andersen, who signed as a free agent on July 21, appeared in 12 games this season with averages of 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Dave McMenamin: The pick the Cavs get from Charlotte in the Birdman deal is a 2017 top-55 protected second rounder, league source tells ESPN
A source familiar with Cleveland’s roster plans told ESPN the Cavs will aggressively pursue trade destinations for the injured Chris “Birdman” Andersen to try to open up another roster spot that could be used to land a buyout player.
The Miami HEAT announced today that they have acquired guard Brian Roberts from the Charlotte Hornets in a three-team trade involving Chris Andersen. In exchange for Roberts, Miami will send Andersen and two conditional future second round picks to Memphis and the Grizzlies will send Courtney Lee to the Hornets in exchange for PJ Hairston and two future second round picks.
Mario Chalmers: I hate to see my homie c Lee go. But welcome my homie my championship patna the one and only BIRDMAN. The package deal is back together again. Watch out
Sam Amick: Charlotte’s 2nd-rounders that go to Griz in Mem-Miami 3-way, I’m told, are theirs from 2018 & Brooklyn 2019 2nd. @Adrian Wojnarowski had deal.

Rick Bonnell: Brian Roberts will end up with the Miami Heat, I’m told.
Adrian Wojnarowski: Sources: Miami will send two future second-round picks to Memphis as part of 3-team deal, although one is heavily protected.
Courtney Lee to Charlotte

Adrian Wojnarowski: Sources: As part of Lee deal, Charlotte sending Brian Roberts, PJ Hairston and two 2nds to Memphis.
Adrian Wojnarowski: Charlotte’s Brian Roberts will move to Miami as part of three-team deal with Charlotte and Memphis, sources tell @The Vertical
We hear Miami simultaneously has been aggressively trying to trade salary at the end of its bench, primarily Chris Andersen and Jarnell Stokes, because it wants to lessen its luxury tax burden. Miami knows it has a better chance to dump Stokes (earning less than $1 million) than Andersen ($5 million). Dealing Stokes without taking a player (or money back) would also open a roster spot.
Heat shopping Chris Andersen
Andersen has played the fewest minutes of the three — just 33 — but hasn’t complained. Everyone, including the Andersen camp, is aware that Miami would love to move his $5 million salary to substantially lessen its luxury tax payment. But the Heat hasn’t found a taker.
Jason Lieser: Has Spoelstra spoken w/ Birdman & Chalmers abt trade talk? “They’ve both been w/ us in our best yrs & understand our commitment to winning.”

Heat more interested in Kevin Durant than Kyrie Irving

The Heat has far more interest in acquiring Durant than Irving, according to a source close to the situation. Acquiring Irving comes with a risk because his availability has become a major issue.

Any potential interest the Heat has in acquiring Irving, 30, will depend on what his price is on the trade market or in free agency. The belief is the Heat is not currently willing to give up its top assets to acquire Irving — a list that obviously includes Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler, and also Tyler Herro.

There are rumors floating about that Victor Oladipo is looking for a short-term contract to build his value and the Kings have been mentioned as a potential landing spot. He’s played with Sabonis in both OKC and Indiana, so there is some familiarity, but the injury risk is substantial.
Josh Robbins: Wizards assistant coach Zach Guthrie will serve as the Wizards’ head coach during upcoming NBA Summer League games.

The way people watch sporting events is shifting. More people consume games via streaming or social media, and the NBA has never been more popular than it is today, especially with advertisers. For example, according to iSpot.tv data, the NBA playoffs brought in $842 million in sales revenue for Disney and Turner Sports. That’s 19% more than the $705 million networks brought in last year and a 54% increase compared to $546 million in 2019. So my point is…numbers can be deceiving.
