The Knicks are expected to have an open roster spot with injured power forward/center John Henson’s 10-day contract expiring Thursday. The Knicks don’t plan to give him a second 10-day pact, according to an NBA source.
More Rumors in this Storyline
Joe Vardon: Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau called the 10-day contract of John Henson ‘just insurance’ @The Athletic
Brian Lewis: The #Knicks officially announced the signing of center/forward John Henson to a 10-day contract. #NBA #Nets
Shams Charania: Free agent center John Henson is signing a 10-day contract with the Knicks, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.
Ian Begley: Knicks will sign big man Norvel Pelle with one of their open roster spots, league sources confirm. John Henson had been on club’s radar as well. After signing Pelle, Knicks will still have an additional roster spot available. Pelle’s signing was first reported by The Athletic.
If Rivers is moved and the transaction opens up a roster spot, big man John Henson is among the players on the Knicks’ radar for that roster spot, per SNY sources.
One thing we always hunted for in the Memphis front office: “Good minimums.” They’re not the sexiest part of the offseason, but the random vets signed to back-end rotation spots can have a big impact on the season if injuries hit. Henson is a great example of a “good minimum.” He turns 30 this year, he’s never been a huge star or anything and he slogged through last season on miserable teams in Cleveland and Detroit. He’s not a floor spacer and he’s not much of a post-up threat, although he can get to an awkward-looking hook shot that goes in with surprising frequency.

Last week, The Post reported that Webber’s return for next year was very much in question. There had been no contract negotiations. There was a feeling that TNT did not want him back and maybe he didn’t want to return.
