It was the opposite of the moment Siakam got the news this past summer that he would require surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. “[It] felt good, felt good, again, [for] the first time in a long time,” Siakam said after the game. “I just think [I’ve] been through a lot. I remember when [Raptors vice president of health and performance Alex McKechnie] was telling me, ‘Oh, you have to get a surgery,’ and it was like my first surgery, obviously [I was] super scared. I remember crying.”
“I don’t think I’ve cried like that since my dad passed away, I think just because of the season that we had [in 2020-21]. I just wanted to go back into the summer, I had so many things I had planned, and it just felt like another blow, like you have to get through surgery, talking about six months, [it was] just really tough moment for me and I remember thinking it was the end of the world. “Obviously, I know people go through a lot more or a lot more difficult situations, but it was just tough and I was just really sad and devastated.”
Pascal Siakam feeling well after return
Eric Koreen: “It felt good. First time in a long time,” Pascal Siakam says of being out there on the court today. Siakam said he cried when he found out he needed surgery, saying he doesn’t think he’s cried like that since his father passed away. (As a capper on a crappy year-plus).
Pascal Siakam to make season debut on Sunday
Aaron Rose: Pascal Siakam will play tomorrow
Pascal Siakam return imminent, could come Sunday
Pascal Siakam returning next week?
Aaron Rose: Pascal Siakam might be back next week, Nurse says. He’s hit all the check marks and might be ahead of schedule.
Pascal Siakam back within next two weeks?
Blake Murphy: Via Nick Nurse on @SiriusXMNBA , Pascal Siakam should start contact work this week and may only be a few weeks from a return. “He’s been going 100% for 4-6 weeks” just without contact.
Pascal Siakam still not cleared for contact
Josh Lewenberg: Webster says Pascal Siakam still hasn’t been cleared for contact but he’s been working out 1-on-0 at the practice facility. “He looks good. He’s in a really positive head space. I think he’s happy and ready to go.”
How is rehab going? Pascal Siakam: I was expecting it to be worse, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought. I would say just, I think the first two weeks or three weeks was the worst, just because I couldn’t sleep. I have to find a position to get comfortable. I had to sleep on the couch for two weeks because I couldn’t sleep on the bed. I’m a side sleeper. So I couldn’t do that. Are you even shooting or doing anything basketball-wise? Pascal Siakam: Yes. I’m shooting, ball handling. I think at this point in the process I look better than I thought I was expecting at least or I’m doing more than I thought I would do at that time.
Pascal Siakam likely to miss start of next season
The Toronto Raptors announced Friday that Pascal Siakam underwent successful surgery last week to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. The injury to Siakam’s shoulder occurred May 8 vs. Memphis. The expected recovery and rehabilitation time for this procedure is approximately five months, and his condition will be updated as appropriate.
Blake Murphy: That would mean Siakam is unlikely to be ready for the beginning of next season (Oct. 19) unless he’s ahead of schedule (~early Nov.).
Michael Grange: The good news on Siakam’s shoulder injury/surgery is he’ll be able to resume on-court work in July, I’m told. Initial hope was he could rehab the torn labrum in his left (non-shooting) shoulder, but eventually opted for an arthroscopic repair.
Eric Koreen: Pascal Siakam did not practise on Thursday and his status for Friday’s game is unclear. He has a sore groin which outdated his fall after a dunk on Wednesday.
Josh Lewenberg: Asked about the groin injury, Siakam said he felt it right away and immediately had trouble walking. “It was a bad idea for me to finish the game.” Initial timeline was at least 4 weeks.
Pascal Siakam back next week?
Toronto Raptors star Pascal Siakam is expected to practice Friday with hopes of returning to the lineup in the next week, league sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Siakam has not played since Dec. 18, when he suffered a groin injury during an awkward landing. He is averaging a team-leading 25.1 points and 8.0 rebounds in 27 games this season.
Ryan Wolstat: OK, Raptors just announced Siakam out indefinitely too with a groin issue. Gasol and Powell as expected.
Ryan Wolstat: Nurse on Siakam: “He’s feeling about the same.” Says there are a few limits on him, specifically the long stretches in a row they were doing before are “probably done.”
Eric Koreen: Pascal Siakam not listed on injury report.
Rosalyn Gold-Onwude: Raptors Coach Nurse said Pascal Siakam is “doing ok, not 100%, …have confidence he could impact the game more than he did yesterday”. Today Raptors had light practice: just film and shooting.
Eric Koreen: Pascal Siakam is now questionable.
Shams Charania: Pascal Siakam will play in Game 4 against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Jon Johnson: Pascal Siakam will be a game time decision
Tom Moore: #Raptors coach Nick Nurse on Pascal Siakam: ‘We’re still waiting. He hasn’t been on the court yet.’ Didn’t practice Saturday.
Josh Lewenberg: Siakam says he isn’t sure how he hurt his calf. Felt it after Game 3 once the adrenaline wore off. He doesn’t know if he’ll be able to play in Game 4, said it’s very sore and a little swollen.
Pascal Siakam out for Game 4?
Tim Bontemps: The Raptors say Pascal Siakam is doubtful for Game 4 with a calf contusion. To say that’s a blow for Toronto is an understatement, especially considering they are already down 2-1 in the series.
Shams Charania: Sources on @TheAthleticNBA @WatchStadium: Raptors’ Pascal Siakam is expected to be day-to-day after hard fall on his back tonight in Portland; no damage found in postgame tests. Siakam has emerged as a valuable player for Toronto.

Brandon Ingram and Jaren Jackson Jr. commit to play for Team USA for FIBA 2023 World Cup

Adrian Wojnarowski: ESPN Sources: Two Western Conference All-Star forwards — New Orleans’ Brandon Ingram and Memphis’ Jaren Jackson Jr., — are committed to play for Team USA’s FIBA World Cup team this summer in the Philippines. USA Basketball plans to finalize a 12-man roster later this month.

Indeed, on the day Dallas acquired Irving, a high-ranking member of the organization told The Dallas Morning News that along with envisioning him as a strong fit alongside Doncic, the Mavericks admired Irving’s proven track record of attracting star teammates, Exhibit A being his wooing of Kevin Durant from Golden State to Brooklyn.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on LeBron James: 'Doesn't have to prove anything'

At the unveiling of a Koreatown mural commissioned by the Lakers, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said LeBron James should be the only one in control of his future after hinting at retirement following the Lakers’ elimination from the playoffs. “At the end of the year, after all that, LeBron and most of the guys looked like they’d been through two seasons, you know? But they still gave it an awesome effort,” Abdul-Jabbar said Monday. “I think it’s up to him. Certainly doesn’t have to prove anything. And it’s just what he wants to do at this point.”
Trayce Jackson-Davis explained his potential role in the NBA. I think, overall, I’ve got to be a basketball player. At the end of the day, whether I play the small-ball five or whether I play the four, (I just want) to guard positions out on the floor and do my job on offense, whatever the coach wants me to do. That is a big thing for me, being a basketball player, and showing my IQ, athletic ability and everything that comes with it.
The Athletic: Jaren Jackson Jr. was asked if he thought Dillon Brooks calling LeBron James “old” backfired in the Grizzlies-Lakers series. “It helped L.A. get around something and get some energy… but he is old. He kicked our ass and he’s old.” 🎥 @PodcastPShow
