Sergio Scariolo is a strong candidate for Virtus Bologna head coaching job, as reported by Il Corriere dello Sport and confirmed to Sportando. Sasha Djordjevic’s departure from Virtus Bologna was almost certain when Serie A playoffs started, also considering the elimination in EuroCup semifinals against Unics Kazan and the missed chance to play in EuroLeague next season.
Sergio Scariolo is preparing for a long summer in which he will lead once more the Spanish national team to the Olympic Games. However, he already knows what the future holds for him beyond this season. According to Eurohoops sources, the Italian coach will extend his contract with the Toronto Raptors with a new multi-year deal and he will remain a distinguished collaborator of head coach Nick Nurse.
Scariolo was hired by the Toronto Raptors in the summer of 2018, he was a member of the championship run of 2019, he coached one game this season getting the 122-111 win over the Houston Rockets, and of course, he has a long career in Europe. He has won twice the Spanish league, he is also a champion in Italy and has also won two Spanish and one Russian cup.
