Anadolu Efes announced that reigning EuroLeague and Final Four MVP Vasilije Micic signed a three-year extension with the club, only to later delete all related posts from its social media platforms. Eurohoops can confirm that a deal between the two sides is indeed in place and it’s just a matter of time until a new official announcement arrives.
More Rumors in this Storyline
The contact includes NBA outs clauses for each of the next two summers. There was an optimism on Efes that they would convince Micic to remain on the team, as Eurohoops had reported. The Turkish side made their star player a highly tempting offer of a lucrative contract to persuade him to stay and skip, for now at least, his first-time trip to the NBA.
The Thunder isn’t prepared to commit to anything until after the July 29 NBA Draft — when it could have as many as two top-five picks. Neither Vasilije Micic nor his agent were available for an interview, but it’s expected that Micic, like the Thunder, will want to wait until after the draft to see what OKC’s roster looks like.
As translated by Serbian reporter Sasa Ozmo, Micic’s agent, Misko Raznatovic, said that Micic is “ready to be a great player in the NBA, but I am not sure that it will happen this year.” Raznatovic reportedly went on to say, “if the NBA is not good enough and fair enough towards him, they will have to wait for (Micic) for another year.”
Nenad Krstic recalled a recent conversation with Micic, whose contract in Europe just expired. “First time in my career I have a chance to decide my future,” Micic told Krstic. But it’s not that simple. Micic first must decide if he wants to play in the NBA, and then the Thunder must decide if and when it wants to add Micic to its roster.
Anadolu Efes ended a three-season dream run with the EuroLeague title last week and GM Alper Yilmaz looks ahead to the “next day”, with so much interest drawn on EuroLeague and Final Four MVP Vasilije Micic and the sensational Shane Larkin. Yilmaz admits that if both desire to pursue their next goal overseas there’s nothing he can do from his side, while he wants both to succeed after offering Efes its first-ever EuroLeague trophy.
Alper Yilmaz: “They have a desire to play in the NBA, and they deserve it until the end. I don’t know if they will go if they get a good offer, but I know they are happy at our club. There’s nothing I can do if they really want to go to the NBA, but I think players who have helped us so much, we should help them achieve their dreams. Of course, the issue of how to fill their place is a bit of a challenge, but we do not prefer them to leave. If they go, we will do our best”.
Vasilije Micic: “They were pushing me to the skies, I was always realistic about myself. And after that, I said that I would not plan anything. Honestly, right now I am just thinking about how to stay calm, to finish this season, because that’s what makes me feel relaxed. Of course, I am aware of the NBA rumors, there’s something in the air, but I have not made any decision yet. This is something that I have kind of experienced before and I like to stay grounded. I think it’s something that’s going to come up soon, the season is ending soon. And sooner or later I may have to make this decision”.
Sasa Ozmo: : HMicić to NBA not a done deal. His agent @MiskoRaznatovic , speaking to @Novostionline : He is ready to be a great player in the NBA, but I am not sure that it will happen this year. I won’t allow for Micić to have the same faith NBA as Vassilis Spanoulis did, to sit on the bench. “Micić won’t go until everything is right – maybe this year, maybe not. Everything is still open – if the NBA is not good enough and fair enough towards him, they will have to wait for Vasa for another year”.
Do you ever think that this might be the end, that can be your last EuroLeague game? Vasilije Micic: I just say this: It may sound like I don’t want to say something secretly, but I really don’t have any official offer. Not from the NBA, not from any other team in Europe, still not from Efes. There are probably some negotiations that are happening not behind my back, but behind my eyes.
Misko Raznatovic: It s really time to say that Vasilije Micic did not have even one talk with clubs about next season! Its too early for something like that! All the reports are completely false! #BeoBasket

There is a strong possibility that Howard returns for a third go-around with the Lakers. Howard won a title with the Lakers in 2020, but he bolted to the 76ers last season. Now, there appears to be interest on both sides to have Howard back for his physical and defensive play. Howard, 35, averaged 7.0 points and 8.4 rebounds in 17.3 minutes last season in Philadelphia, his 17th in the NBA.
Rob Schaefer: Zach LaVine on what he’s conveyed to Bulls about a potential extension. If Bulls decide to take route to cap space, pursuing upgrades through free agency or renegotiating + extending LaVine’s current contract are two options on table.
Barry Jackson: ESPN reports tonight that New Orleans and Dallas – two Lowry suitors – have begun to look elsewhere for point guards. The Dragic/Achiuwa package should get this done for Lowry barring any late issues; Achiuwa hasn’t yet been informed because talks can’t begin until 6 p.m. Monday.
Donatas Urbonas: Ignas Brazdeikis will play for the Orlando Magic in the NBA Summer League, per sources. Brazdeikis averaged 11.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2 assists in 8 NBA games with Orlando last season.
Rob Schaefer: Zach LaVine on keeping up with Bulls’ free agency from Tokyo: “I should have a good idea what’s going on. I take that very serious, keep up to date with what’s going on back home, but obviously still get my rest cause we got a game tomorrow. One way or another I’ll find out.”
