Danny Ainge Rumors

Is there a specific moment or story that will stick out to you the most during Paul’s enshrinement this weekend? Danny Ainge: We had a moment where after the Ray and KG deal was done, that Paul and I had maybe our most special moment, maybe even more than the championship we had a year later. He just appreciated what we had just done. He was so excited, I’ve never seen him more excited than that when we got Ray and KG. He was just like a rookie being drafted in the NBA and that was after a pretty tough year with the team, etc. He just wasn’t sure we could pull it off and he showed his appreciation that day and we embraced and said, ‘Let’s get it done.’ That was probably the memory I have of Paul more than anything else. He took the time to appreciate it because he knew it wasn’t easy.
“I honestly thought Danny was going to trade me,” Pierce said. “He came in and traded everybody. He traded Antonie and I was like, ‘Man, it’s over for me.’ But y’all stuck with me.” Pierce was eventually traded from the Celtics to the Nets, but that blockbuster deal wasn’t until 2013. The treasure trove of draft picks and pick swaps are still the foundational pieces of the Celtics of present day.

ASB: What has the transition been like for you, to not be as involved in the basketball decision-making side of things which as we both know, can be extremely taxing over time? Danny Ainge: “It has been taxing. I have a great staff of people. It’s just an opportunity to let them do more and have a say. Brad and Mike and Austin have been there a long time; just giving them a chance. I’m anxious to see how it all works out.”
