Dez Wells Rumors
After not being interested in going to training camp with the Wizards because they lacked an open roster spot last week, Dez Wells is prepared to change course if Garrett Temple is traded, CSNwashington.com has been told by a person with knowledge of the situation Monday.
Wells, a guard from the University of Maryland who went undrafted, had five other training camp offers and was prepared to make a decision over the weekend and had ruled out Washington. However, the Utah Jazz, after losing Dante Exum to a season-ending knee ligament tear, want to acquire Temple from the Wizards.
Dez Wells is back to working out after a dislocated right thumb ruined his Las Vegas summer league run with the Wizards, who have extended him a training camp invite, persons with knowledge of the situation told CSNwashington.com on Monday.
Wells is unlikely to accept it, however, because the Wizards have the maximum 15 roster spots filled with guaranteed contracts for the 2015-16 season that begins at the end of October. Five other teams have offered him training camp invites. Camps open at the end of September.
Dez Wells’ right thumb injury actually is a dislocation, not just “severely sprained,” his agent Lance Young told CSNwashington.com on Sunday. On Saturday, Wells told CSN that he wouldn’t play for the Wizards at Las Vegas summer league at all but that the thumb was a bad sprain. A person with knowledge of his condition confirmed that initial diagnosis, too. Young, however, told CSN that the latest diagnosis shows Wells with a dislocation on his shooting hand. It still shouldn’t require surgery and he should be able to rehabilitate it and be back on the court sometime in August to prepare for an NBA training camp.
