Just hours after the announcement about Mo Wagner missing the Eurobasket, the German team bounced back with an 87-83 win over Belgium in a very close game. Franz Wagner with 23 points and five rebounds and free agent Dennis Schroder with 21 points and seven assists got the job done. Daniel Theis added 8 points for the winning side, which didn’t use Karim Jallow, Maodo Lo, Johannes Thiemann, and Johannes Voigtmann.
Daniel Hackett has left CSKA Moscow, according to El Mundo Deportivo.
Hackett is the 7th player of CSKA Moscow that has left the Russian powerhouse since the war vs Ukraine has started. The athletes that have left are: Kevin Pangos, Tornike Shengelia, Iffe Lundberg, Marius Grigonis, Johannes Voigtmann and Joel Bolomboy.
In the summer of 2019, after you left Baskonia, the Wizards had expressed an interest in you, bringing you in for a free-agent workout. What happened and you weren’t persuaded to move overseas? Johannes Voigtmann: The contract choice I had was between the NBA and a couple of EuroLeague teams. But I didn’t know all the aspects, the terms of the contract. They didn’t want to give me any security. Then, I had the chance to play for CSKA and I made the decision to go there. I chose to avoid the unsure way, trying to struggle around the NBA. I’m very happy with my decision. I got the feeling that they wanted to give me a chance, but their offer was a little vague. So, I went to the European game.
Will you stick to the European path? Johannes Voigtmann: I don’t think the NBA door is still open. Mentally, I’m done with it and I’m not really paying attention anymore. I’m not waiting till my contract it’s over and be like: “Let’s see if I can join the NBA”. If it happens, OK. But I’m not so sure it will.
German big man Johannes Voigtman posted a farewell message to Baskonia fans on his Instagram profile today. After three season with the team, in fact, Voigtmann is leaving the Spanish side and might take the NBA route to continue his career. The Washington Wizards are showing strong interest for Voigtmann and, as of right now, they’re considered frontrunners to sign the big man, a league source told me.
